'News flash! Rani Reports is a total delight! Full of intrigue, humour and heart' - Abi Elphinstone, author of The Dreamsnatcher trilogy

I’m Rani Ramgoolam – roving reporter. And I think I’ve found the perfect story for the junior journalism competition run by the local paper. An eccentric millionaire has created a treasure hunt with a reward for the first person who figures out the clues.

Luckily, my mischievous Nani is visiting from Mauritius. She’s promised to help me work out what a priceless painting, a minotaur and a glass eye have in common.

“Murder, murder! Call the cops!” Oh, and that’s Cookie, my parrot. I’m not sure he’ll be much use.

But the race is on and I’ll need all the help I can get. Especially when some people are resorting to sneaky tricks to get their hands on the prize…

Another one that’s been on my shelf for a while. I really enjoyed it. I loved the relationship between Rani and her Nani. I loved going on their search with them. Some twists I didn’t see coming and some great lessons to be learned.

I was able to get myself an exclusive bound proof off of my professor. She gave it to me as I am Mauritian and I grew up outside of the country. Nani reminds me a lot of my own grandmothers and how they would call me Coco and speak to me in a mix of Creole, English and French. (Side note - the glossary at the back is wonderful!)

The illustrations are funny, vivid and wonderful. The story made me really emotional towards the end. I suppose, as I am an adult reading the story, certain parts fill me with nostalgia to my - admittedly limited! - experience of Mauritius. Similar to the author, I spent my childhood going to Mauritius once a year for 3 weeks.

This book really captured my attention as it portrays a character who is learning more and more about the country she is from, whilst also keeping a young audience enraptured with mystery. Overall it was a really fun read and I will be following Nani's gato pima recipe at the back of the book!

This is a wonderful book for kids, complete with a project for them at the end and I think that people from the diaspora can find real value in being represented like this. There is honestly no need to be a child to understand and appreciate how well this is written.

I can't wait to read more from Gabrielle and Satish Shewhorak!

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING! It was really great! And it really did keep me guessing. Wow! Like I said, I had so many theories but none of them were right. I loved that about the book. The whole time I was expecting the unexpected. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I thought at first that this book would be little kiddish because of the front cover and the big words and stuff like that but actually I think any age could read this and enjoy it. It really did teach me to not judge a book by its cover!

'Rani Reports on The Missing Millions' is a hugely entertaining breathless romp. We follow intrepid Rani and her gloriously playful Nani as they inventively solve tricky clues and battle their competition. It's a dazzlingly clever, fun and joyful adventure. Looking forward to more of Rani's remarkable reports.

Meet Rani Ramgoolam, British-Mauritian amateur reporter and her charming but utterly mischievous grandmother. This pair are about to take the world by storm with their antics or should I say with their investigative techniques? Hmmm I may have to leave that up to you to decide for it could be an additional conundrum for the pair! A brilliantly conceived story by Gabrielle Shewhorak, complete with brilliant illustrations that every budding young reporter will approve of, by Satish Shewhorak. This book will tease you, leave clues at every opportunity and test your powers of deduction. So, if you are ready for a little sleuthing, a lot of giggles and a really good book that you hope is going to be the first of many featuring this brilliant reporter read on…

Rani Reports is the search for a story. It is a treasure hunt; it is a story all about outwitting grown-ups who are sure they are cleverer than you and it is about believing in your skills of deduction. A fiendish treasure hunt has been set by a recently deceased eccentric millionaire and it is the perfect opportunity for Rani to scoop the prize she most wants – to be the local papers top junior journalist. But solving the clues that have been left is not going to be as easy as it looks on first sight. Then there is the problem of how to stay ahead of rival wannabe junior journalist Lexi who always seems to be just where Rani is… Can Rani and Nani crack the code in time? Can they outwit an apparently dangerous nemesis who will stop at nothing, and can they scoop both prizes too?
