It’s the ultimate seasonal showdown between autumnal characters Apple and Pumpkin in this festive fall board book!
Apple and Pumpkin make their case for being the most beloved fall characters. Are pumpkin spice drinks superior to warm apple cider? Do kids prefer pumpkin patches or apple orchards? Time to decide which household favorite will reign supreme!
The battle between apples and pumpkins takes shape in this board book for little ones as they go back and forth on who represents fall. For a board book there are a lot of words but I think little ones will enjoy the bright pictures. Overall a good book for parents to read to their children.
Thank you Simon Kids for gifting me a copy to review.
It's time for a fall flavor showdown! This is a wonderfully cute and clever board book that breathes new life into the genre of seasonal picture books. An adorable cartoon apple and pumpkin argue over who is loved best. A wise fall leaf offers words of wisdom.
First sentence: When it comes to fall, there's so much to love. The weather turns cool, the clothes get cozy, and there's only ONE treat everyone wants to eat.
Premise/plot: Are you Team Apple or Team Pumpkin? Which "fall" treat do you prefer? In this board book, apple and pumpkin "boast battle" to see which is best.
My thoughts: I like this one. I do. I love both apples and pumpkins. I have a love-hate relationship with the illustrations. Some spreads I love. Some not so much. But I definitely liked this one more often than not. The text is super cute--precious at times. Such as the following:
Did you know every kid is the apple of someone's eye? Did you know every kid is someone's little pumpkin?
This board book manages to pack a lot into those little pages. Apple and Pumpkin argue back and forth about which one makes the best fall treat. They make a lot of great points, but in the end, we learn it's best to be together. It's a getting-along book for the fall, with reminders of some of our favorite flavors, scents, and colors. The illustrations are bright and silly. Would make a good classroom read for kids to choose favorites!
Read as a nomination in the Fiction Picture Book book award category as a panelist for Children's and Young Adult Bloggers' Literary Awards (Cybils Awards).
I received a digital ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
This silly and fun book pits the two against each other for best Fall Thing and only Leaf can solve the issue. I had actually never thought about the fact that apples and pumpkins are so similar in their uses. Still, it is a cute book and a cute way to teach kiddos about some of the best parts of the season
This is really cute and funny, but it's very wordy for a board book. This won't work well for many babies and toddlers, and I'm concerned that it's going to miss its true audience. Since this will appeal so much to kids in kindergarten and the early elementary grades, it should have been published as a picture book.
Apple and Pumpkin are fighting over who is loved more! It is time for them to make their case, time to tell everyone why they are the most loved! This BB is a very cute look at what we like when it becomes fall; in the end it is decided: there is lots of delicious treats that both A/P offer everyone - we love you both!
Super cute and fun seasonal book with very bold illustration style, definitely worth checking out, but I do agree with other reviews that it’s a bit wordy and higher level for a board book. So, it would be better suited as a picture book.
I laughed too hard before we even got past page 2. We have a very real but jokingly fight in our family about what is the best fall flavor. I’m going to have to buy this book to read every fall. “Hold on to your branches, Apple l, dear. There’s a better treat in town, I fear.” Loved it!
This was a truly delightful book but I can't understand why it isn't a picturebook or reader. The text length, complexity and subject seem better suited to preschool-K.
