In the third installment of the action-packed Guardians of Horsa graphic novel series, the Guardians take to the sky.
There is a secret battle raging in the clouds high above the landlocked realm of Horsa.
The Derecho Herd has long been under attack by an army of strange beasts known only as the Turbulence. But when the Guardians are called to help, they find that not everyone wants them around…especially when there are magical mysteries to be revealed.
Book 3 in the Guardians of the Horsa series has the Guardians in the Cirrus Region battling the Turbulent. At over 100 pages I was surprised by how fast this story felt. Easily engaging, filled with laugh out loud one liners and constant action, this graphic novel backs a punch. The story was easy to follow and I appreciated the distinctive personalities of each Guardian horse. The illustrations are also out of this world! Would be a great series for any young reader!
I am starting my review again by praising the recap, but I feel it is important to note this. Some series are just better at this, and Roan Black deserves praise for making each volume accessible even if you had not read the previous 2. Of course, get far more by having done so, but you are not lost if you had not. Roan spends the first 20 pages recapping...but that still leaves over 120 pages of new material in this the third volume of the Guardians of Horsa series. This volume takes place in the sky, and though you would think that would mean less background, I found that Roan does an even better job of filling the background and places you in the spots in which the Guardians are within the story. This volume ends in a way that leaves you guessing and awaiting volume 4! (Well at least it did for me)
Terra, Gale, Gamma Ray, and Stillwater's adventure to the Cirrus Region was amazing. I love how they are able to accomplish so much, not exactly with the power of friendship, but with the power of teamwork. And they all have their own skills. Also, the art continues to enthrall and impress me.
