quite a blasé entry to the elder scroll’s canon. it was mostly filled with basic but practical survival tips that you would get from a pamphlet at a boy scout’s first camping trip. how to dress a wound, treat a burn, build a fire, and what to do if you see a bear, etc. sometimes it would mention something tamriel specific (like hist trees, dunmer slavers, or skyrim weather) but none of the information was new. i could very easily source every “fact” to a previous game or book.

the art has also taken a dip in quality. it's not bad but when you are accustomed to the beautiful drawings of adam adamowicz and ray lederer the difference is astounding. their art, unlike erika hollice's, give you the perfect dark fantasy feeling, like you are reading an ancient manuscript with the author's sketches. erika's isn't bad, but when the book is written in-character by a khajiit traveler, it feels off to have smooth digital art accompanying it.

unless you are buying this book for collection purposes like myself, i would give it a pass.
