Celia must find the classmate at the heart of a Doomsday Prophecy before it’s too late in this second book in the contemporary fantasy middle grade series perfect for fans of the Thirteen Witches and Love Sugar Magic series.
Ever since the fateful visions about Jeffrey Johnson, Celia Cleary’s prophecies have focused on smaller things like minor mishaps and everyday inconveniences. It’s finally starting to feel like she has a handle on her powers…until things take a turn for the weird.
One day at school, Celia’s notebook magically fills in with a single name written over and Patrick . She uses the family guidebook to investigate and learns that the mysterious Patrick is connected to a Doomsday Prophecy—a vision that involves a large group of people, a point of no return, and a terrible future. The target for this particular reckoning? The entire eighth grade.
Celia soon finds herself in a race against the clock to figure out which Patrick at their school is at the heart of the coming disaster. As the shifting sands of luck turn against her, she’ll need Grammy’s voice and the help of friends more than ever. But even with their efforts combined, can they prevent the doomsday?
Scott Reintgen grew up in North Carolina, and took full advantage of the fact that he lived on the same street as fourteen of his cousins. It could be a little crowded, but he threw a few elbows and carved out a space for himself as the family storyteller. He enjoyed the role so much that he decided to spend most of college and graduate school investing in the world of literature. This led to a career teaching English and Creative Writing in the great state of North Carolina, where he currently lives with his wife and family. To his great delight, the demand for stories and storytellers is alive and well. As such, he can often be found at local coffee shops laboring over stories that he hopes his family, and fans, will love.
Drama with doomsdays took me a while to finish it but I still gobbled it up. Definitely doesn't have that same feeling as the first one though. I love how much Celia and Jeffrey's relationship has evolved since the first book 😘 Does anyone know about a third book because j cannot find any news about it!?
My son and I just finished reading the Drama of Doomsdays. We loved it just as much as the first, I hope Scott continues Celia’s story and we get to learn more about how her gift continues to affect her life.
The Drama with Doomsdays is the sequel to The Celia Cleary series. This time around, we can see that Celia feels more confident with her newfound powers. It was so nice to see Celia, Jeffrey, and all the characters I loved in the first book.
This time around, while they are in the cafeteria, Celia has a very unusual vision. While having a nice time, Celia’s notebook opens, and something or someone writes just one thing, a name. That name is Patrick. Now, she must find what does this means and probably stop a Doomsday Prophecy. It had definitely full of surprises, and I loved that they mentioned abuela and all her teachings. I also enjoyed how Celia was coming of age and learning the importance of true friendship and family.
This one didn't have the same charm as the first book.
INCONSISTENCIES\DISLIKES: Martha and Avery were randomly faded into nonexistence—which I'm not upset about, but didn't make much sense for the book. The ending was weird and anti- climactic. What happened to the imagination behind that emotional rollercoaster in the first book? Sophie was practically nonexistent in this, and she's one of my favorite characters, so that sucked. Lastly, I REFUSE to believe that Jeffrey, intelligent as he is, couldn't piece together the fact that Celia predicted his death. It's right in his face, and he's just oblivious to it!
PROS: Celia and Jeffrey's developing relationship was portrayed so well! They're wise beyond their years, and seeing them navigate life was so great. I liked that Reintgen included strictly modern aspects without being cringe and overbearing like YA books. The writing still gripped me, too.
All in all, I enjoyed it, and I'd like to see a future book with more page time for Patrick Adams, Mary, Sophie, Skyler, and Desean.
