Pain and pleasure collide when a sophisticated underworld boss crosses paths with a naive photographer hell-bent on bringing him down!
This deluxe edition includes never-before-released material as well as a double-sided color insert and special cover treatment! Photographer Akihito Takaba takes on a risky assignment trying to document the illegal activities of the Japanese underworld. When he captures its leader—the handsome, enigmatic Ryuichi Asami—in the crosshairs of his viewfinder, Takaba’s world is changed forever.
After their big showdown with the Russian mob, Asami and Akihito find themselves injured and once again separated, and it takes six long months of recuperating and searching before Asami is able to locate Akihito. As expected, the two have a passionate reunion…until Akihito pulls out a knife and attempts to kill Asami!
Ayano Yamane (native name: やまねあやの) is one of Japan's most popular Boys' Love genre manga artist. She debuted as a professional manga artist in 1996 and since then has published several BL series and illustrated many light novels. She is one of the top selling BL manga artists in Japan. Her most successful work is the Finder series.
This may be the most melodramatic series I'm reading, and that's probably the only reason I'm still reading it. (Or at least that's my excuse.) Amnesia? Brainwashing? Brainwashing the amnesiac into an assassin? It's all here and, for better or for worse, so am I each time a new volume comes out.
The series took a new turn in this volume. It takes place in Europe and reveals things about Asami's past that we didn't know before. And we get a new villain!
Asami's and Akihito's relationship is in jeopardy because of Akihito's injuries. But Asami has grown a lot during the course of the story and he's not about to abandon Akihito. The ending gives hope that he'll be successful in saving them too. Luckily there's no cliffhanger ending this time, so the wait for the next volume being translated isn't an agony.
The changes in the way some characters like Fei Long--what's with the shorter hair and middle-aged look all of a sudden?--are drawn seems permanent. A great disappointment.
I thought this one the weakest volume of Finder to date, but that's possibly because I hate the amnesia trope in romance stories - this just feels a tad OTT melodramatic - Akihito has amnesia and been brainwashed by a mad scientist to assassinate Asami (Shades of the Fast & Furious saga anyone? this does feel lifted from Letty/Dom's story arc). Artwork is still excellent - but Asami seems softer somehow - we see him cooking!
Couple of fan service bonuses - Finder's heroes - brings our boys together with characters from Crimson Spell & A Foreign Love Affair which is fun. And in Akihito Takaba's Finder Strikes back we get a PWP piece of BDSM smut - total fan service, but if you like yaoi, you'll be going squee.
Over all I love this series, but I found this one less action/plot and more OTT melodrama - still good though.
Volume 11 ended on a massive cliffhanger with Asami & Takaba's reunion spoiled when Takaba pulls a knife to kill his lover! This volume picks up in that moment. Asami stops him and Takaba flees. Asami will need Fei Long and his new paramour, Russian mobster Mikhail, to track him down.
Of couse Takaba has been brainwashed, by a mad scientist who is holding Shu prisoner to enforce Takaba's conditioning. Asami storms the estate, but rescuing Takaba will be easier than saving him.
I loved this volume. There's lots of action, in the sexy and literal senses, and the evolving relationship between our couple continues to sweeten. This volume also has a couple bonus stories at the end: a fun isekai story where a "wild Yamane" brings together characters from all her series and a very sexy interlude where Takaba punishes Asami when he thinks he's cheating. I cannot wait for more.
I feel like I need to do a bit of a re-read with this series; I am a bit lost with all of the side characters. This picks up from the cliffhanger ending of volume 11, and gives a bit of background into what has happened to Akihito, and why he is acting so differently.
I think it says a lot about Asami's character development that he uses food instead of sex to try to get Akihito back to himself.
The art is gorgeous as always, and we get a bonus kinky short, plus a cracky cross over with sensei's other works.
I am hoping that Akihito gets to keep his new assassin skills going forward; the action is as much a part of this series as the romance, and it would be nice to have Akihito involved in a more capable manner.
After the underground war with the Russian mob, Asami and Akihito have a passionate reunion and it soon becomes clear to Asami that Akihito is acting strange. Asami soon discovers that Akihito has been under the influence of an unknown drug and has been brainwashed to think Asami is an enemy he must kill. This twelfth volume of Finder reminds me of the beginning volumes of the series, where Akihito is trying to sort out his feelings for Asami. Another solid volume.
Poor Akihito!! Come back to us!! But also take your time because this is delicious hurt comfort! Also the fact that the three big bosses that were enemies are teaming up to find Akihito delights me!! The quote "i wouldn't be allowed here if you didn't want me to" is so freaking delicious! Sign me up for seconds!! This series was a delight to binge!! I am happy and sad that I have to wait so long for the next volume!!!
I know Sudo sucked before, but now I feel so bad for him. Poor guy. Not the biggest fan of amnesia trope, but at least Finder made it not boring. Once again it's Akihito always getting kidnapped though. Kind of love that the author met up with a neurologist to research amnesia and infantile regression for her mafia BL.
How long I have waited for Vol. 12 to drop for Kindle, and at last it is here! I gobbled it up so fast I'm totally unsatisfied and craving more, it simply was too short. Finally, Asami and Akihito are reunited only for Asami to be attacked by his love who has been played with and altered to kill Asami. So angry about this and am seriously hoping for an Asami-style bloodbath when Asami catches the ones who did it. Still not liking that Mikhail is sexing my man Fei Long but that's the manganka's choice. But I did love his reunion with Akihito as well. I also loved that there was still some classic childish Akihito moments in this as well. Finally, I want the whole series animated but especially that isekai crossover I absolutely loved it!!!! Please come on volumes13-25!!!
I rather enjoyed the amnesia plot line twist and I'm definitely here for Fei Long and Mikail's side couple story! Absolutely loved the "Finder's Heroes" bonus chapter with all of the cameos from Ayano Yamane's other works! Can't wait for vol 13!!
I seriously wasn't ready for that. Akihito losing his memories wasn't on my Finder Bingo Card. Now, they gotta save Sudo. Let's keep this bumpy road going.
Listen, by this point in the series, you know if this is for you or not. I for one am excited for an official, new volume if my problematic faves. I enjoyed the help out of this just like every other volume.
I think this volume was one of my favourites! I really enjoyed the story she set up and am looking forward to seeing how things progress from here forward. I’m hoping it’s not another 2 years before the next volume I’m also enjoying seeing Asami, Fei Long and Mikhail working together for a change
January 21,2024 This was a second read and I still thoroughly enjoyed this volume! I am really looking forward to volume 13 in June! 🥳 This remains one of my favorite BL series! Can’t wait to see what happens next for Asami and Akihito!

Akihito is amnesiac, controlled and wants to kill Asami. Asami will do everything to get his lover memories’ back. Can’t believe it is the 20th anniversary volume for this Mangaka, there is a silly bonus story at the end with cross over characters of the others series, Crimson Spell and Foreign Love affair.
