Thrown into prison for nothing more than his own bad luck, Robert befriends a Christianised Moor, Yusuf, who cautiously recounts the story of his family's flight from Spain following the Edict of Expulsion in 1609 and divulges the existence of lost Arabic manuscripts, setting Robert off on an adventure taking him from Spain to Holland, Italy, and Ottoman Syria in search of the invaluable trove.

I purchased this book while in Muscat, Oman wanting a book by an Omani author. After reading it (in English) I was disappointed by the story telling. The writing style is unnecessarily complex in an unimpressive way. There was so much fluff around the plot that didn’t contribute much at all to the main story progression.
I found this book a drag to get through and hard to follow. There were countless characters introduced and many of which meant nothing to the big picture. A character index would have been helpful. I’d recommend taking notes on characters for anyone wanting to read this book.
