For the past seven years, Kellan Caufield Thorne has been caught up in a celestial power play of epic proportions. The final act began in an Atlanta alley by forever removing the scales from Kellan’s eyes to reveal a world of Creation, Destruction, gods, angels, demons, and Mantles. Now the last scene begins to unfold as God’s unchecked hand on the world must traverse a perilous and narrow path if he has any hope of saving our universe from Perditor, the very incarnation of destruction. Join Kellan, Shannon, and their allies as the Sentinel and his Soulborn wife cross oceans of time to meet five Mantles of immense power. Duty, War, Honor, Sacrifice, and Justice each have a gift to bestow, but only if Kellan can complete the trials they will set before him. At the beginning of time, these five were entrusted with a fragment of God’s one, true, name. If Kellan can prove himself worthy, each fragment will be inscribed deep within the Sentinel’s heart. Should he complete all five of the Mantles’ trials, Kellan’s heart will contain unimaginable power, but such power can only be used at an equally unimaginable cost. Old loyalties and covenants begin to shift or shatter as Perditor extends his influence into our world, corrupting some, and enticing others. The Sentinel of Order has been transformed by by trials, tribulations, friendships, and love. He has been honed by the whetstone of adversity, tempered by a burden of chaos, and quenched in the love of a Soulborn. As the end of all things approaches, the universe holds its breath, waiting to see if Kellan Thorne is prepared to offer A Final Sacrifice?
Ross definitely does not like loose ends. A Final Sacrifice was chuck full of callbacks from the previous books. Most of these were self contained little recaps of whose who from Kelean's past, or little moments in the story where some background characters were given a few paragraphs to expand upon their personality; Deckard is a good example of the former.
I was not a fan of the final battle, specifically the Dues-Ex Reset at the very end. But then again, with all the dice shaving that took place leading up to that final confrontation, a happy ending was all but inevitable. It was difficult to take Kelans loss seriously since it was obvious none of the losses would be permanent. A more heartfelt impact would have been to correct the single imbalance, add a little hand waving to age it to a viable infant, and the flash forward.
Another issue i had was the several call forwards to the 2049 books, while interesting, but mostly ended up being a distraction. I read the first two books in the series, and found it difficult to believe Kelean and Shannon co-existed in the same universe as Omandi, albeit a few decades prior to the Captain if the Bladerunner saving the Earth. If Kelean wax around, where was he when to pathogen bombs was meant to be released on the Earth.
But i digress.
Despite mh minor issues, i think this was a good end to a series that both kept up entertained and gave me a good understanding of the type of author Robert Ross. I have a new author added to my favorites list, cant wait to see what he has in store for his readers.
What a great ending to this series. If you like tv shows like Lucifer and supernatural this is the series for you. Robert writes the characters in a way that they feel real to you. The back and forth banter between his characters feels like a conversation between old friends.
This is the 7th and final book to sentinels of creation. It goes through the final Obstacles, tasks that have to be done, and battles to fight Perditor.
Robert did a great job at tying up the loose threads to this series. This book had me on the edge of my seat in a lot of spots especially the last chapters. Kellan, Shannon, and the rest of their friends definitely make you proud on how they go out in the final sacrifice. I highly recommend you read the first 6 books before you pick this up if you haven’t yet done so. I hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did!
I wish I didn't have to write this review because I just want the series to keep going forever BUT this was one of the best series I've ever read and listened to. I literally dragged this book out for as long as I could much to my husbands' dismay since he just wanted to "discuss" everything with me. Like the rest of the series, it pulls on all emotions and Robert W. Ross created amazingly funny (especially Lucifer) and strong characters while Nick Podehl brought them to life with his versatility. The ending was perfect. If they ever make a movie or a tv series on these books, they better do the book justice and not add in unnecessary things because the books are great just as they are.
I'm excited to read more of Robert W. Ross's creative works!
I was genuinly terrified to finish this book. It took me almost two years to do it simply because I, like a certain man in a blue box, am terrified of endings, especially for a series that I adore as much as this one. Sentinels has become my absolute favorite series. After starting it 3 years ago following repeated recommendations from my father, I finished the first 6 books in about 2 weeks. I wholeheartedly adore the life and story that Robert brought to life through these vivacious characters. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful ending to this series. I have an immediate urge to re-read all of it but I have too long of a TBR list to do that unfortunately.
I loved it what a spectacular ending to one of the best Fantasy series in Recent memory. The twists and turns of the plot, so many things I didn't see coming. This is truly how you end a great series in an EPIC way. The action and emotions where all top notch. What an ending. Truly it left me in awe! I hope too see more book series like this from Robert W. Ross in the future. I will be keeping my eyes open for any news of upcoming works by this amazing author.
I loved this story. It was awesome reading about famous people like George Washington and Harriet Tubman. I also like how he weaved his other story’s early characters into this book.
