The Last Mortals #1

Fated to the Dragon Prince

Rate this book
When Dariel’s eyes meet Prince Curren’s, he’s immediately caught in the dragon’s fiery gaze. Dariel runs, but he can’t stay away. The temptation is too great. He goes to see the dragon again, and this time, he’s caught for real. The prince takes him back to his castle, to his chambers.

"You're mine," he tells Dariel.

Dariel doesn't want to be a dragon's fated mate. He doesn't want anything to do with any paranormal creature. They're the reason mortals like him went all but extinct. The reason his people have to live in hiding.

Dariel knows if he tried to run back to his community, he would lead the prince right to them. It's not a risk he can take.

He has to remain by the dragon's side, share his room… and his bed.

It’s pretty hard to find a good fated mates book because you know …insta lust and this one wasn’t an exception, there WAS indeed insta lust but they don’t really have sex until pretty late in the book although there was a lot sexual tension.I was pleasantly surprised by this book, it was pretty great for a fated mates book, the MC’s were interesting (though Dariel was kind of annoying for half of the book but he got better in the second half) and the plot was engaging. What I didn’t find well developed was the world building..It was kind of weird if you ask me, it was trying to give a modern impression (futuristic even ) and yet it had historical vibes.
I wanted to give it 4 stars but then I read the second one in the series and after that this one felt like 3.5 stars .
Thank you,Alicia for this rec, it was really fortunate.

I really enjoyed this m/m fantasy romance from author Silvana Falcon!

So I don't usually like apocalypse themed books, but this is not that dark. It's definitely focused more on the romance, the fated mates, and the lore of dragons in this world; All of which I really enjoyed.

The couple was so cute with each other, I liked that they communicated, and that the dragon is a consent king!!!

Also the setup for the couple that's going to be in the next book was amazing and that twist made me really want to read book two!!!

4.5 Stars Rounded Up!

This was one of the best fated mate books that I've read in a while. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing and pacing in this book. It somehow manages to be kind of a slowburn take on fated mates, and it has a strong focus on the broader plot beyond the romance.

Curren, the fire dragon prince, was by far my favorite. I'll forgive the mild kidnapping. I could see some finding Dariel frustrating. Personally, I think he was fairly justified in his hesitancy for a lot of the book, and he moved past being antagonistic pretty quickly. He wasn't my favorite, though.

The worldbuilding was interesting enough that I ended up wishing for more of it. I'm hoping future books expand on certain things more.

Dariel was a whiny, snobby, unappreciative brat for most of the book. He repeatedly referred to all paranormals as freaks, despite Callum being considerate and kind to him. Callum was amazing and I applaud him for being so patient with Dariel. Dariel did change his tune but this happened at the very end which didn't really allow me to warm up to him much at all. The middle lagged a bit as well, but the ending was strong. We are given the set up for book 2 which is about Ben, Dariels bestie. It seems like that is going to be interesting based on the information we are given which I won't spoil here. It also seems Ben isn't going to be as reluctant as Dariel was so I think I'll enjoy his book a little more. 3.5 stars

Fated mates and insta lust with a bunch of cliches…
BUT! Hear me out.. - Dragon shifters… 🤤 iykyk

I had to push through the first few chapters, the world building wasn’t the best in my opinion.

We’re getting thrown into the middle of a distopian, paranormal setting and although there are some explanations of how we got to this point eventually, it was too spread out through the book that it was pretty hard to imagine things at first.

I don’t really like paranormal, I’m more into high fantasy stuff and I feel like this one was kinda inbetween. The paranormal elements/modern things used were pretty limited.

I kinda wish things have played out differently; there was so much angst and things got wrapped up pretty quickly on a high note. I love slow burns and angst but give me a high around that 70% mark and then another 100 pages at least to slowly come off of it.

I’m a bit tempted to go into the 2nd book despite it being poly.

Interesting world building, with a nice mix of paranormal creatures of different sorts and mortal humans as a tiny minority. Dariel sometimes felt a bit too prejudiced against all types of beings, his reasons were very understandable, but it came over as determination to find only negative things in others and having a very closed off viewpoint. I read part 2 first so it is good to read certain events in more detail.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am happy to leave a voluntary review.

Reading this because I loved the vampire spinoff series. It’s a cool paranormal world concept: Humans in hiding while paranormal creatures run the city. The story itself is very fated mates where the dragon shifter is onboard but the human needs a minute.

Cute! I like the second book even more too.

I loved this and now I'm trying to cope with a book hangover, these characters grabbed a hold of me and are not letting me go.

This book was about Curren who's a dragon prince and Dariel who's a mortal.

Curren is struggling, his father and the king just passed away, his brother is getting sicker and sicker everyday due to the illness that killed his father and is slowly killing him along with his brother. He never expected to find his fated mate, they were rare. He also never expected for his mate to unlock hidden powers.

Dariel hates all paranormal 'freaks'. After vampires killed his father he's sworn to hating all paranormals. He lives in the mountain with other mortals, the only time he goes into town is to steal money and to get supplies. When he sees Prince Curren for the first time he can't look away, nor can he get him out of his mind. Dariel doesn't even know what mates are, let alone the fact that he's the prince's mate.

This is the first time I've ever read anything written by Silvana Falcon and I've got to say, I'm impressed. The characters were really well written, there was so much detail with the characters and the background that I could visualize what was happening as I read it. I love when I can do that. I also appreciated that every character involved belonged in the story, if they weren't in the story I don't think this would've worked as successfully. The action scenes were great, the shifting into a dragon was even better. I really enjoyed all of the twists and turns.

I might've cried a few times throughout reading about Nevin, how hard Curren was trying to find something or someone to heal him. To help him get better. I think his character was the one that intrigued me the most and I'm really looking forward to his story. I hope it comes out soon!

Overall a really good dragon fated mates story, I enjoyed the take on a dystopian world with paranormals. I also enjoyed the creativity the author had writing this, it was completely unique and stands on its own. The pacing was also excellent! It's a very slow burn romance but it's necessary once you get to know Dariel.

I highly recommend this book!

Prince Curren has found his fated mate in Dariel, but Dariel is not just jumping into the prince's arms. I enjoyed reading a fated mates' story where the men actually had to learn about each other. It takes Dariel quite a bit of the book to really give in and trust in his fated mate status. I enjoyed all of the world building, action and other characters. This was a fated mates romance in an apocalyptic world that felt more realistic. There was suspense to their mating!

Definitely stepped out of my comfort zone with this but I actually enjoyed it a lot! It reminded me of the Vampire Mates series by Grae Bryan so if you're a fan of that I would give this series a read! I liked Curren and Dariel, and thought they were well matched. I also liked how Curren never once used his strength to his advantage and let Dariel set the pace for their relationship. I'm excited to continue this series and read Ben's book!

Enjoyed this dragon Prince story! The characters came to life & were so relatable, likable - well, most of them, anyway. The world-building is incredible, the magical & mortals alike striving to survive & love. Interesting & fun plot twists & battles, internal & external, & eventually a romantic HEA leading into the next book - great adventurous journey (especially for Dariel) & while the back & forth between the MCs went on a bit longer than anticipated, the passion & connection between them exploded off the pages. Loved it.

Whilst I liked the idea and plot base of this story, as I do enjoy a good “mated” coupling, this story fell short for me. The main reason was Dariel and the constant rebuttal to Prince Curren through a good 70% of the book. Just a personal taste as while I like a little back and forth it just went on a little too long for me.

I did like the storyline of their world that was built and the sparring for control between families, it’s certainly an interesting and detailed world which is very appealing.

I love a good battle of wills book, specially if it's with fated couples.
Dariel is fated and want anything but, fighting every urge and instinct while Curren rams ahead like a freight train. Certain about what he wants and expects Dariel to just fall in line.
There are some interesting side characters and this feels like an introduction to what I hope is a long series.

I liked the different take on a dystopian world, reminding be a bit of R. Phoenix's Fate of the fallen series, just a more light hearted version. With paranormal beings taking over the world, causing the human population to dwindle. And those who remain, hides away.

The tidbits that we see of the world is intriguing and makes me want to learn more of it, and hopefully we will get to see more in the next book.

This book was a unique take on the PNR genre. I was pleasantly surprised by it. The world created here is different and the story between Dariel and Curren really pulled me in. In this world, humans/mortals are in the minority after having been almost wiped out by an illness. Dragons now rule and all other magical beings are free to live openly and vastly outnumber the mortals. Curren and Dariel are fated mates and the dragon prince has no intention of ever letting him go. Both of these guys have their flaws but that was part of what captured my attention. I loved the fire dragons! I admit that I am looking forward to the next book because I have to see how this all works out. I enjoyed this story much more than I initially thought I would and that is a good thing! I now have a new to me author to watch out for. 😊. I did read an arc of this book.

Fated to the Dragon Prince is my first novel of Silvana Falcon and I'm absolutely in love with the story and the author's writing. I love the slow burn trope/theme and the slow burn between Dariel and Pirnce Curren is to die for and it makes their romance so worth salivating every moment. I love the world building of apocalypse meet urban fantasy meet paranormal (since there are dragons, etc.) I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

Dariel and Curren story was interesting with danger and a challenge that is time sensitive and which affects the life of many people.
I liked the premise of a dragon being mated to a mortal, the way it can unlock magic that can save lives as well as the miracles the fate bestowed on our characters.
I liked how their relationship blooms and how they learn to trust in each other, how they found solution to their problems as well as the way they figured the key to save Curren's brother.
Liked the trials and the new connections that are formed as well as the justice that was served for the crime committed.
I liked the story and I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

M/M Romance
Fated mates
Insta-connection
Shifter Romance
Fight for the throne
Paranormal
Urban Fantasy

Let me be honest, I was skeptical about this book as I have never heard of or read any of her books. And I am so glad that I gave the book the chance because I am not a bit disappointed with the book. It has crossed my anticipation and I am in love with the story and the characters.

First of all the book is so much more than the blurb, the book is not just about meeting your fated mate. Secondly, the book has a story and a plotline that is very well-written and presented. Thirdly, the book has layers that make the book so interesting and the story gripping.

Every character in the book is so well-created and written. Everyone has their own story and their struggle that makes you feel connected to them.

I’m not typically a fan of insta love stories, but this was not one of those. When Dariel and Curren meet, they are mates, but the trust between them takes time.

With an interesting plot, great side characters, and a romance that isn’t dependant on an instant love connection, this book exceeded my expectations.

Looking forward to the next book even more!

What a read! It has a bit of an apocalyptic feeling, what with the whole almost extinct thing and the mysterious viruses going around, yet it isn't really science fiction, it is almost purely fantasy. And what a fantasy it is...

The world building is great and so are the characters. The trials and tribulations, internal and external, are very detailed and clear, very believable in a way. One can almost feel what they feel, which is a great sign in any book. I loved both characters for their morals, their values, determination and strength. They didn't lose who they are, even while trying to work through their new reality, which is something to be admired. A great debut! Can't wait to read the next one!

Fated to the Dragon Prince follows the story of Prince Curren and Dariel. The book was well written and has a different world-building than he typical paranormal romances. Overall it was a good read, with lots of character growth and building trust over the book. Good side characters and lots of steam.

I really enjoyed this one - it’s a fated mates with insta connection. The author built up the connection between Dariel and Curren really well. Insta-connection didn’t mean instant trust and Curren had to work hard to earn his mate’s trust.

I’m looking forward to the next book to see how things work out for the others.

In a world where most mortals are no longer, Dariel lives in hiding but he does sneak into town on occasion. When sneaks into a ceremony, his eyes meet those of Prince Curren. The two are drawn to each other but Dariel runs before they can meet. When he returns again to town, he is captured and taken to the castle where Curren tells him that he is fated to be his. Dariel cannot leave the castle as he would lead them to his small community and even though he tries, he cannot seem to resist Curren’s allure.

What an incredible story! It was amazing to watch Curren as he seduced Dariel. He did not force him and waited for his consent. The two together gradually became a couple that you knew was enduring. There is so much more to their story but I do not want to spoil anything. It does set the stage for book two which should be just as incredible. Fated to the Dragon Prince will have you routing for these two to have a happy ending. You will fall in love with them as each man steps up to his future.

4 stars. First time reading this author and she did not disappoint with dragons!

It took a while to get into the book but it ended up being a journey both literally for Dariel and for the maturation of the two protagonists.

Lovely lots of magic interspersed with paranormal and fantasy creatures (did i mention dragons?!) and a bonding. All the elements plus i really liked Dariel and Curren, so looking forward to the next book even though I don’t usually read MMM.

After a sickness killed most of the pure humans or mortals, paranormal races came out in the open and took over the world. Most human without magic intermarried into the different paranormal groups just to survive. A very few non-magic humans have been in hiding just trying to survive when vampires want their blood and mages want body parts for spells and shifters wanting to turn their mates. Dariel is one of the non-magical humans who is fascinated by the city where the fire dragons rule. He sneaks into the city dressed as a dark elf and steals from people just to get money to pay for his community needs. That is why he and his friend Ben are in the city during the king dragon's funeral rites. They hope to steal enough money to buy medicine for a sick aunt. Magical pull and withdraw

A really well done and fascinating book that keeps fated mates both that necessary draw and something that needs to be questioned.

Dariel is one of the last mortals and he knows that every other creature of the world wants to use his body for spells or food, with no care for his life. On a medicine run in the city Dariel sees the dragon prince Curren and finds himself inexplicably drawn, which has to be a magical trap. Curren feels this draw too, and while he knows he can have a fated mate having one when he is dying of a magical disease with no cure feels cruel. The two find themselves continually drawn even as the world and their own fears pull them apart.

The world building in this was very well done. From what happened to all of the humans to the nations of the world now, things are built and explained without overwhelming the story. There is important personal history that we see along with the long reaching world history. In the now there is also the ever present politics, as being a prince isn't just a title in this time. From family issues to threats to the people and the crown this book brings up much and makes a complete and engaging world.

Having people be fated can be tiring, with insta-lust and making a relationship later, or even not at all if it is written poorly. This was written quite well though and really works with the fate. The need and lust are constantly there, pulling the two together, but they still have their minds and their fears. They can deny the pull and in that time they learn of each other and also of the things happening that will affect them. There is also the unusual situation of their different species to work through and what it means for themselves and for all other mortals and paranormals. Though the mating was a constant push in the background to drive the two back together, there was much more going on that built the relationship and made this a good connection.

This was a really great read and it introduced more characters and lands to learn about, with a good promise at the end for who will get a story next along with some of the troubles they face. An excellent start to a series!

Ugh im so disappointed. There was potential here but I couldn’t help and dislike Dariel. And that isn’t being said easy. In theory, it should be very easy to sympathize with Dariel considering he was essentially kidnapped by Prince Curren and held against his will. But the way he flip flops in his emotions and feelings about the prince, made me roll my eyes more than once.

Dariel flip flops between hating Curren and calling him a paranormal freak to being unable to stop staring at his ass. How am I supposed to take him seriously?

Also, I can’t say that I didn’t hate him just a little for refusing to reveal where his community was located despite it being the only lead they had to cure Nevin - aka Curren’s twin brother. It doesn’t even matter if I understand the reasoning behind it, or even if it is the same decision I would make, I hated Dariel for doing it. It’s made even worse by the fact that when Curren does finally find out where the community is, it isn’t even Dariel who tells him. Dariel at no point in this book, shows that he actually trusts Curren and believes him when he says that he won’t hurt Dariel’s family or reveal their location to anyone else. Dariel just straight up refuses to help and doesn’t even try to give Curren an alternate suggestion. It’s Curren who reinforces his belief in Dariel.

The pacing of the book too is all over the place. With the length of the book, I assumed that Dariel and Curren had been around each other for weeks if not a month or so but later in the book when Dariel returns to the mountains to warn them of Prince Curren and Navin’s approach, he mentions that it had only been a couple of days since he met the prince. Huh?!

It was just way too long.

The plots didn’t make that much sense either. I don’t know why they thought that taking Nevin to the mountains was such a good plan. Like I understand that Currans mate was a mortal, but that doesn’t mean that his brothers will be as well. So they took an extremely sick person on a journey to maybe find his mate? Why not take him around the city or something too? They tried one thing and then immediately gave up.

3,75 ten 4'e yuvarladım.

İçerisindeki büyülü ve farklı atmosfer hoşuma gitti. Taht savaşı için buz ejderiyle yarışması kitaba aksiyon katmıştı.
İlk defa bir ejderha değiştirici konulu kitap okudum. Farklı bir deneyimdi. Curren çok iyiydi. Asildi.

Bu kısımda Darien'i anlıyordum gerçekten.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good start to the Last Mortals Series. It takes awhile for Dariel and Curren to get there happily ever after but worth the wait. Dariel is one of the very few remaining mortals, as this world is run by paranormal creatures. The last thing he wants or needs is to be a dragon’s fated mate as he believes that all paranormal are nothing but freaks who think that mortals are less than and are only good for their blood and body parts. Curren treats Dariel with nothing but respect and he’s honest with him from the get go, okay he kind of kidnapped him initially but I believe that if Dariel actually truely wanted to leave the castle he would’ve let him which he showed later on in the book. Curren never pressured Dariel and even though it was going against his beasts instincts he left when they actually mated up to Dariel.

Wow, my heart hurt for Curren with not only losing his father, his twin Nevin is basically fighting a losing battle with the same disease, Curren is also infected all while taking over his father’s duties and becoming King, where his brother Nevin was always groomed for the role. I thought the chemistry between Dariel and Curren was completely off the charts. I really liked meeting Nevin and all I can say is that I really don’t envy Ben, as he’s got his work cut out for him with having not one but two dragons as mates and the dragons are enemies which makes matters even worse. Earnan, the ice prince was hard to get a good read on so I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Two Dragons, One Mate. It’s Ben, Earnan and Nevin’s turn next. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.
