At least, right up until a dead body shows up in the woods behind the esteemed Beechwood Manor.
With the townspeople distracted by a mysterious shamrock-themed scavenger hunt, everyone seems content to chalk up the death as a tragic hunting accident. But when the clover-shaped clues lead back to the crime scene, things take a deadly turn.
With a rogue leprechaun on the loose and something sinister lurking on the edges of town, it’s up to Holly to stop the murderer and keep secret paranormal powers from swallowing up the sleepy town she's grown to love.
Lucky Witch is the fifth novel in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series by Danielle Garrett. Come for the mystery, stay for the magic!
Lucky Witch picks up a little while after the events of Witch Way Home. A werewolf infected Nick, the towns private eye and he will soon undergo his first transformation. Only something goes horribly wrong.
Lots of mysteries to keep Holly, Nick while keeping the folks at the manor on edge. Police discover a dead body in the woods behind the manor. Someone is leaving shamrocks with clues to a scavenger hunt all over town and someone is stealing and moving gnomes all over town. Oh, and there are reports of a little green man being spotted all over town.
Then we have trouble with Holly and Adam's relationship. Not to mention things are up with our vamp. Yep, just another quiet week for Holly. Humor, suspense and classic whodunit with a little paranormal woo-woo made for a fun installment.
Suspense, character growth, an intriguing love development and change as the series moves forward. I had wondered if this was the last of the series, but its clear there will be more.
I must confess. I got a little annoyed at Holly. No one can be that obtuse. I don’t think she realizes what others can see about another or even herself. We see growth and an interesting career development for her.
Amanda Ronconi has become a favorite narrator. I love both her male and female voices. Her pacing and ability to capture both the humor and suspense enhance the story. At around six hours, this series is perfect for listening on your commute. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
Each installment lately has been full of pulse-pounding excitement. In this latest, Lucky Witch, Holly is confronted by several problems needing solving including her own love life.
Lucky Witch is the fifth of the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series and is not a good place to jump into the series as it relies heavily on the events of previous books particularly book four.
Holly feels lucky to still be alive after the encounter with one bad-vampiress who had a hate on. The repercussions were staggering especially for Nick who soon must face his first full moon as a newly turned werewolf. At first a little silly mystery about mysteriously wandering garden gnomes pops up and then a mysterious St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt, but then the laughing is over when a shotgun is turned loose on Adam and Nick in the woods and then a body is found. If Holly can't sort things out including her disintegrating love life, then they might get a very unlucky holiday.
Throughout this series, I've enjoyed so much and mostly it was the fun interaction between Holly and her roommates and with Nick the PI. The mysteries were clever and fun. But, in the back of my mind there were little niggles that I would push away because there was more to enjoy than to dislike. However, in this one, those niggles were fed some MiracleGro and turned into full-fledged irritations that made me almost toss this book aside. Series loyalty and trust in the author's ability to turn things around were all the kept me pressing on.
I apologize ahead for what will be a long gripe over the next few paragraphs. So, what got me all in a twist? Boiled down, it was Holly being a real twit. Adam had me frustrated, too, but mostly her. Throughout the series, whether intentional or not, the author imbued Holly and Nick with tons more chemistry than Holly and Adam, but Nick has never been a serious contender for Holly. Not because he wasn't interested- the author kept Holly oblivious or in denial while the reader saw it. Until now, Holly could always claim that it was impossible because Nick was human and must be kept ignorant of the supernatural world. Last book was the game changer so now it really comes down to attraction and interest. Still, little Miss Holly remains oblivious even when she decides to use a moment with Nick to twist the knife in Adam when she's piqued at him over something else. She's been busy nagging at Nick with the 'are you really okay?'s 'are you sure I can't do anything?'s, and 'wanna talks' every day instead of respecting his request to give him some time and respecting his space. It was obvious she was making his werewolf issues about her and her guilt (which it wasn't her fault even remotely). She went into a full blown tantrum when Adam and Nick wanted to exclude her from Nick's first full moon run when none of them knew if Nick would be an out of control wolf that Adam has a huge dog shifter could help control or keep from taking off and hurting others. I could see where Adam just might get the impression that there was something between her and Nick on her side in particular the way she's acting and then the way she blew up at him and tried to make it about him not respecting her or her abilities- which were not much help in this matter. She couldn't keep up with the two shifters in their animal forms and she would have had to use her magic and hurt Nick if he turned and attacked her so what did she really think she was going to do out there?
That leads me to what else got my ire up. The spats between Holly and Adam were plain annoying. She gets kidnapped and nearly killed in the last book and in other earlier books because she went haring off alone into danger, but wonders why Adam insists she slow her roll and not assume that she has to do everything and be in the middle of everything. And this spat flared up through the whole book. Adam was overbearing at times, but he'd seen her nearly killed which she is ignoring and here she is leaping in again and he gets to see her teaming with Nick on cases, hiding stuff from him that she shares with Nick, and fluttering around Nick with worry. Honestly, I was done by the end of this one. She never really owned up to her end of the trouble, but she did the 'sure, I'll do my best to not leap into danger and call for back up'.
As to the mystery, it wasn't that tough. It was still a continuation from the previous book a little. The situation was engaging as Holly worked through it and helped sort things out.
There were a few nice reveals in the end that will be interesting how they affect things going forward and, contrary to my big rant, I was glad where things were left in the romance department. This won't be a favorite book or very liked one in the series, but there were good transition pieces and it was never a bad book. I look forward to what comes next for the Beechwood Harbor gang.
Lucky Witch opens only a few short weeks after the dramatic events that unfolded near the conclusion of the previous book, Witch Way Home, when human friend Nick was abruptly introduced to the supernatural world following a werewolf attack. With Holly feeling responsible and Adam willing to help the transition, the friends are shocked when the full moon hits and Nick’s transformation doesn’t go as planned. Couple that with a dead werewolf in the woods and a mysterious leprechaun, Beechwood Harbor Manor is once again the center of all things problematic.
I genuinely adore the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries and main character Holly Boldt’s crazy, flustered life. The cozy mysteries are usually well-thought out and keep me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what is going on. I also love the friendships Holly has made and the hint of romance with shifter Adam. With that said, Lucky Witch seems to fall short on both the mystery and romance fronts.
First, the mystery of who killed a werewolf in the Manor’s woods, and the reasons behind the murder, begins in a promising way. Everything seems to point to Nick’s odd transformation and the story that began in the previous book. However, as the mystery unfolds, the strength of the story diminishes, and I felt like some of the parts were not supported by the clues. Overall, the end result felt weak and a bit disappointing. Additionally, the side story with the leprechaun goes no where, and I was left wondering why it was even part of the book in the first place.
Second, and the really frustrating thing for me, is that issues pop up AGAIN between Adam and Holly. This has been a long-standing problem for me throughout this series. The pair seems to get settled in one book, only to have things come between them in the next book. I have said this before, but it’s worth repeating - either get them together or break them up, end of romance. I will admit, things felt good between the pair at the close of the book, but I’ve felt that way before only to be disappointed. With only one book left in this enjoyable series, I truly hope things are settled for good this time!
As always, Holly and her friends are brought to life through the performance of Amanda Ronconi, who has consistently done a wonderful job. Her interpretation of Holly is always spot on - flustered and frazzled - just like Holly. Ms. Ronconi convincingly portrays Holly’s thoughts, concerns, and expressions. She helps solidify Holly as a favorite character of mine. Her female voices are each a bit different and well-suited. And unlike in previous books, I didn’t notice confusion between her male characters. Whether it is because of the narrator, writing, or both, I’m not certain, but overall, Ms. Ronconi does a wonderful job.
In the end, Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries remains one of the more enjoyable series I’ve listened to, and despite my frustrations with Lucky Witch, I still look forward to listening to more in the series.

Lucky Witch is book five in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series by Danielle Garrett. This series does need to be read in order. Lucky Witch picks up a little after the events in Witch Way Home.
Holly’s friend Nick was infected by a werewolf and his first change is coming up and Holly’s got her freedom and life back, but things don’t stay quiet for long.
The mystery is fun and entertaining keeping Holly and Nick on the go trying to find out what’s going on. We get a dead body, a leprechaun, and so much more. Holly has a lot to figure out including her love life.
There’s trouble in Holly’s relationship with Adam. The author added more chemistry between Holly and Nick than with Holly and Adam. I’m not sure why she did this. It was frustrating and Holly was oblivious to Nick and why Adam was unhappy. I will say I was surprised with Adam’s request, but I could understand his side. Holly was an idiot in the relationship department. She frustrated me to know end on how she behaved. This book made me wonder if Adam and Holly will be in a relationship or not.
I really enjoy the banter and interactions between Holly and her roommates. Thou something is up with our vamp who hangs at Beechwood.
There were a few nice reveals that will be interesting to see how the series moves forward. As to the romance I’m content with how things are left.
Lucky Witch has humor, suspense, and mystery. It was a nice read.
This ramped up so much more of the supernatural side of things. No longer is this just a simple mystery series with a hint of paranormal to it. No, this book introduced so much more to the world of vampires, werewolves, and even leprechauns!
This honestly leans more toward a 4.5 star rating for me. Only reason why it isn’t a full 5 stars is simply because the ending felt a little….idk, not as neatly wrapped up? I didn’t even realize I only had 2 chapters left, I figured there was way more to the story. I’m assuming we’ll get more from this story in the next book, or even down the line. This storyline doesn’t feel completed, I guess is what I’m trying to say.
No matter, I still really enjoyed this! I didn’t know that Lacey has her own story now. Although, there is only one book and it came out in 2018, so I’m assuming Danielle Garret sort of abandoned it? It says it’s book 1, which leads me to believe it was supposed to be a series. I’m sure I’ll read it at some point, hopefully it’s not too much of an issue if I don’t read it right away. I’ll look more into it.
Alright, time for the next book in the Beachwood Harbor series!
Another fun entry in this paranormal mystery series, featuring Holly, a witch. This entry picks up shortly after the previous one ended. Holly and Adam (a shifter who turns into a giant dog) are still struggling in their relationship. And Nick, a friend of Holly's, is getting ready to make his first change after being scratched by a were in the last book. Things go horribly wrong with Nick's first change. Along the way, a leprechaun makes an appearance, the evil witch/vamp from the previous book reappears, and Holly and Adam struggle with their relationship.
This series continues to be a great mystery and fun with supernaturals story. The romance was kind of frustrating. I like Adam but I'm not all that connected to him. I almost wish Holly was into Nick. I thought maybe they would join the SPA as a team. I love how Holly is using her skills and learning and still working on some mysteries.
I did not enjoy this one as much as the previous books in the series mostly because Adam and Holly's relationship was so strained throughout the book - it really put a damper on the adventure this time around.
I was exasperated by Adam's behaviour for the most part - his lack of trust in Holly and her capabilitites, constant nagging to keep her "safe" , the jealousy streak ongoing everytime he saw Nick and Holly together - it was not pleasant to read about.
The mystery however was a pretty decent one I must say. A new supernatural creature was introduced - a leprechaun at that and it definitely made things exciting around Beechwood Harbor. I am loving the progress Holly is making in her life and now that she is going to be working with the SPA henceforth, she is bound to stumble across some interesting but dangerous cases.
I am pumped for the next book because it probably is going to deal with vampires judging by Lacey's hasty departure.
Things are a changing at Beechwood Harbor and to those at the Manor House. This book opens with Holly and Adam worried about Nick and his first change. And of course this group being who they are things went wonky and not in a good way, there was running for people lives and Nick having issues changing back. This lead to Holly doing what she does best, looking into things, which brought her back to Sasha and those that she made. It got a bit ugly, but working with the SPA, Holly was able to figure out what was going on, fix things with Nick and get back to a some what normal. Things seem like they are on the skids with Holly and Adam and our favorite vampire from the Manor has left, which doesn't look good for her. It will be interesting to see where things go from here for all of them.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book starts with garden gnomes being relocated with Nick and Holly discovering that a leprechaun is the guilty party but escapes before any more information is found. Then it’s the night of Nick’s first transformation, unfortunately there are problems with his changed that’s not helped by the fact someone is in the woods shooting. A naked body is found and the mystery is on. All anyone knows is that the body belongs to a werewolf but there is nothing else so Holly starts her investigation. Not wanting to expose Nick’s problem to the SPA, Holly and her friends are doing it on their own. All of the action that Holly has been involved in is causing problems with/for Adam. There is a lot of different things in this book – mystery, humour, feelings, surprises, suspense and it all fits together perfectly.
I am really enjoying this series. This one was a nice cozy mystery with a hint of St Patrick's Day, the leprechaun was fun. Holly and her friends helped Nick out with his first transition. This was almost a 3 star read towards the end but the last scene pulled it back up to a 4 star. I'm glad that Holly and Adam are happy.
With it being so close to St. Patrick's Day this book fit into my reading and timing so very well. As Garrett often does she takes a murder and makes it fun solving to find out who did it. This series is turning out to be one that I could read over and over. I am in love with this small town by the sea and all its magical little mysteries. On to the next book!
The Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series continues to deliver an engaging mix of mystery, suspense, and supernatural elements. In this book, tension builds between Holly and her dog-shifter boyfriend Adam and Nick, whose first shift takes an unexpected turn. Lacy also reveals a surprising new side to her character. While there is some romance and drama, it can feel overwhelming at times, but overall, the series remains enjoyable with its fun characters and intriguing plots.
Another solid installment with lots of advancements for the characters. The leprechaun storyline was more of a side plot to the main action! Tarot card: 7 of cups
AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall 4 Narration 5 Story 4
So, it’s St. Patrick’s Day and it will soon be time for Nick to experience his first change after being infected by a werewolf in the last book. But, Beechwood Harbor is ALL IN for the holiday, with someone leaving Shamrock shaped clues to a scavenger hunt, gnomes going missing (yep- the garden type) and little green men being spotted all over town – things are strangely falling into place for this strange little town. And then, a body turns up just behind the manor, and police and townspeople believing it’s a hunting mishap, things are heating up and Holly is the only thing (well – with her friends) keeping the paranormal at bay.
And while I adore Holly and find her bumbling to be funny – she was SO obtuse in this one, with clues fairly dancing with big neon signs to point the way, clues she missed. Often. Of course, we know that Nick’s first change is going to go horribly wrong, and what’s with the gnomes suddenly disappearing only to reappear elsewhere? Or the leprechaun – surely those aren’t real? Well, this is a paranormal cozy so things can get more than a bit twisty and strange – all through the misdirection, missed clues and connections that are made on the way to a solution. When you add in something disrupting the relationship between Holly and Adam, and some changes that I surely didn’t see coming – there’s more to both the story and Holly then ever before expected. Want something fresh and different? This is the series…. And don’t just read it. Immerse yourself in the audio.
Narration is provided by Amanda Ronconi and she is the perfect narrator for these quirky cozies: her voices are always on point, consistent throughout the series and easy to understand, with a touch of the ‘woo woo’ necessary for the magical folk. From first to last, her character portrayals are spot on and give a sense of ‘knowing’ who is there in the story that combines her voice, tone, accents, delivery and a special sort of nuanced emotional component that allows the listener to feel what is happening as they listen and follow along. A favorite narrator for the quirky paranormal series – mystery or not, she’s certainly on my ‘grab always’ list when she is the narrator.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Tantor Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
Well after the shock twist of book 4 I eagerly rushed to find out what was happening for the gang next, and I wasn't disappointed. This one still had me rather anxious for one character in particular and I was on the edge of my seat because of that. However, there is still a great amount of humor, surprises and mayhem to be had.
When a body turns up in the woods behind Beechwood Manor, it is deemed a tragic hunting accident by the townsfolk. But when the clues leading back to the crime scene seem to be linked with a scavenger hunt and green post it notes it looks like something more sinister is involved. Can Holly and her friends discover what's going on before it's too late and someone else gets hurt?
Holly is understandably worried about Nick after his attack and blames herself for his new condition, but with his looming transformation, it has them both being tense around each other. Holly is such a compassionate person and a loyal friend and one of the things I love about her is the fact she will always go out of her way to help those close to her.
Although Adam agrees to be there for Nick he is adamant that Holly needs to be far away from any danger that he poses, which doesn't sit well with Holly at all and causes a rift between the two. Holly sees it as patronizing and him being obnoxious but him being a shifter that's just in his nature to be protective, plus after her own near brush with death and her somewhat reckless regard for her own safety he is terrified of something happening to her. Now as much as I love Holly, I'm with Adam on this one, and I continue to adore him for this side of him.
Nick is still trying to adjust to being part of the supernatural world but with the full moon approaching his fear of what's to come is getting stronger. Again all I wanted to do was to hug this guy, I know I said before I smelt trouble on the horizon with him but never could of imagined that this would be the outcome. And when his transformation doesn't go as planned I was touched at how everyone rallied around him trying to help and keep him off the SPA radar. Yes I've definitely got a soft spot for the guy.
But the most surprising character for me in this book was Agent Bramble as I always pegged her to uptight and plays by the rules. Well guess I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and I have a new found respect for her, especially when she gets one over on Holly.
This was another fantastic book full of magic, cozy fuzzy feelings and friendships. I can't wait to read book 6. Totally recommend 😁
I enjoyed this book and just love the series, so glad I discovered the series and would recommend you read or listen to the books in order because they do follow on from each other. I really like the mix and quirkiness of the characters in this series. Normally you have a lucky if not not clever main character and possibly a quirky sidekick to bring humour to the story but with this series there are so many great characters I am not sure you can call them sidekicks because they all being there own skill or talent to the table. Anyone of them could have there own spin off, not that I want to brake up the Scooby doo gang as I love listening to there adventures and what adventure they have. This is the type of series were the only hold back is the author's imagination and it hasn't let her down yet. The mystery was entertaining with so much going leprechaun running a muck, vampires hunting and werewolves running free. All ment I was hooked until the end and am straight off to start the next book. The full moon happens to coincide with St Patrick's day and the last thing Holly expected was to get distracted by leprechauns when her friend Nick is shifting for the first time. Holly knew it would be hard but she didn't expect someone to be out in the woods hunting or a leprechaun leaving notes to an abandoned cabin. Cabin where a naked dead body is discovered. Did the hunter kill the wrong target? meaning Nick is in danger? Or was it just someone protecting there land? Holly and her friends set to find out in order to keep Nick safe especially it's discovered a vampire was in the woods too. Can they protect Nick and there human friends the cops before there is another victim? She also has to help Nick whos change despite the interruption didn't quite go to plan.
kindle unlimited 3 set {1-3 so not 4 or 5 or prequel}, couldn't remember that reviewed the individual books so going through and doing any that needed it, read them before not sure why no review and reading the others if haven't.
It’s St. Patrick’s Day and Holly’s feeling lucky… At least, right up until a dead body shows up in the woods behind the esteemed Beechwood Manor. But when the clover-shaped clues lead back to the crime scene, things take a deadly turn. My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
We are back in Beechwood Harbor. Holly’s life seems to be on track. She has her magic potions license and can legally make and sell potions. Things seem to be looking up with her and Adam. Nick is dealing with his issue from Witch Way Home (being vague to avoid a spoiler from book four).
It seems that the biggest issue is that someone is moving garden gnomes around in people’s yards and leaving scavenger hunt clues around the town. That is until someone is shooting at people behind the manor. One man ends up dead and Holly is back on the case to figure it all out.
Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series continues to be a lot of fun. I really enjoy the characters. The mysteries are fun and suspenseful. You never know where Holly will end up. There is some romance and the drama that is wrapped around it can get a little much at times. But I do really like Adam and Holly together. I just think they both need to be better about communication and compromising.
There are a lot of changes that came in this book. I hope that means we will be getting another book (this is the last one on Goodreads), because I want to see how this all plays out.
Narration much to say that I haven’t already said about Amanda Ronconi. She is one of my favorite narrators, especially for funny stories. If you haven’t tried her, you really must give her a shot. You won’t regret it.
**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Stars: Overall 4 Narration 5 Story 4 This is the first in the series that I have read/listened to. I enjoyed it so much, I can’t wait to read the first four books which I own. I needed something to listen to while exercising and this was available from my library.
The story takes place around St Patrick’s Day festivities. A body shows up in the woods where Nick and Adam have gone for Nick’s first change. Things don’t go well and a dead body is found the next day. It’s not Nick but then who is the naked man with a silver bullet in him?
Holly Bolt and Adam St James are boarders at Beechwood Manor. Nick Rivers was recently scratched by a werewolf and is intimidated by the thought of his first change as he is a mortal. He was not of the paranormal world and is finding out that some of his friends are paranormals. The town of Beechwood Harbor has both humans and paranormals living there, only the humans don’t know it. Is Nick the target and if so, why?
This being my first foray into the series, I found it to be easy to follow and it works as a standalone. I enjoyed the audio book immensely. Amanda Ronconi did an amazing job with all the characters and only enhanced the story. I am ready to check out the next in the series but unfortunately, it isn’t available. So, I’ll bounce around with the audio books as they become available from my library and hopefully, I’ll be able to place them in the proper order in my head.
I thought I was getting a book focused on a leprechaun/St. Patrick's Day theme and after the events of Witch Way Home and Along Came a Ghost, I thought that maybe awful Nick would FINALLY be taking a backseat in this book == or even better, wouldn't be around.
Instead, this book was almost entirely focused around Nick and his issues.
And the character isn't any better. He uses Holly and then treats her badly when things don't go the way he likes, even if it's not her fault. Worse, Holly will lie to Adam or avoid him to do things for Nick, which e rarely appreciates.
And then in this book, Nick finally crosses a line.
And Holly is far too polite in shutting Nick down.
The only thing that made it tolerable was affirming Holly's relationship with Adam in the end, though really, their relationship is not healthy because he's constantly changing for her while Holly does whatever she wants and makes excuses for Nick's bad behavior.
The leprechaun and his part of the overally mystery was tiny. Outside of the leprechaun, the St. Patrick's Day aspects seemed to boil down to Holly calling the green-tinted whipped cream "sludge."
A very disappointing read. I'm considering skipping the rest of this series and switching to the Beechwood Harbor ghost series instead because -- I hope -- Nick isn't in it. He's really ruining the series for me.
A good read but not terrific. The only thing that pulled this book up was all the personal relationships because the mystery was really quite poor. In fact it was only the leprechaun mystery that was a mystery. The other one was really just too obvious. Nick is still coming to terms with now being part of the supernatural world. As the full moon approaches the nerves get stronger. The only thing keeping him sane at the moment is the case of the 'wandering gnomes'. Who is moving them and leaving shamrock paper messages around town. When the full moon hits his change doesn't go as scheduled. He becomes some hybrid human/wolf combination. Plus the shooting that occurs at the same time throws all the housemates. It is with surprise that they learn the next day that a body was found in the woods. Can they cure the glitch that turns him, so that he becomes a real wolf? Will the mastermind behind the scenes help at all? Who is playing games with the gnomes? Can they find the killer of the man in the woods? Why does Lacey have to go home? Why does her full name send terror into the heart of the vamps that hear it? What is happening in the relationship between her and Adam?
Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery #5 Lucky Witch by Danielle Garrett is another entertaining addition to this series. Enjoy!
Series Likes: Cast of characters – the quirky group is fun and interesting The world the stories take place in – not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but a world that fires the imagination. Narrator – I love Amanda Ronconi. She is one of the best narrators out there.
Dislikes: The feeling I have at the and of every story that there was so much left unsaid. The repetitive way the storyline plays out. Holly loves Adam. Holly spends all of her time with Nick figuring out whatever is going on and solving the mystery, meanwhile Holly & Adam have issues that drive them apart. Nothing is explained to my satisfaction & there is 1 poignant scene near the end between Holly & Adam where they reconcile. The end!
