The Precious Blood: The Benefits of the Atonement of Christ

Rate this book
The phrase “blood of Christ” is used many times throughout the New Testament and is the expression of the sacrificial death and full atoning work of Jesus Christ on the behalf of sinners. It’s a phrase that has gone out of vogue in the past several decades, but serves as the penultimate illustration of the means of our atonement and the basis of the New Covenant. While the blood of bulls and goats were a “reminder” of sin, “the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Pet 1:9) paid in full the death of sin we owe to God, and we need no further sacrifices for sin. This small book will explore 9 benefits of the blood of Christ for the believer.

Book Review (10/10):
A concise, precise, and very well-organized and encouraging little book that clearly articulates the gospel and the benefits of Christ's atoning blood.

I am immediately putting this book in my short list for one of the best, if not the best books to give to a new believer or someone seeking to know more about the gospel.

Another huge benefit to this book is that it has questions and further scripture references after each chapter. The chapters are relatively short but contain so much precious truth they could easily be used for a small group Bible study.

Lastly, I really appreciated that the book was riddled with scripture, doctrinally-sound hymns, and puritan quotes. This will help new believers be familiar with the Bible and also with those saints who have gone before us who have so much wisdom to impart. Just using the list of names of some of the puritans Benge quotes (William Gurnall, John Bunyan, Isaac Ambrose, Thomas Goodwin, George Swinnock, John Owen, Stephen Charnock, William Ames, Thomas Brooks, Jonathan Edwards...) the reader has a list of really sound/great authors to explore if they wish to know more in depth about any of the topics explored.

I'm getting a few copies to keep in my office/hand out.

Dr.Benge has provided us with a clear yet brief depiction of the work of Christ’s atonement and its benefits to those who submit to Christ through faith. This book would be excellent for a new believer who wants to know more about what Christ’s death has accomplished for them, or for small groups to study to be reminded afresh of the work of Christ in salvation. The questions and conclusions following each chapter were particularly helpful and devotional.

This is a very good book. Benge does a wonderful job of writing easy-to-understand language on difficult theological topics like redemption, propitiation, justification, and sanctification. It's wortj reading; I'm going to use it in our Life Group.

If you want to know what I believe, read this book. Sums up the true Christian message of Scripture in a short book. 🥰
