Opera Dynasty Romance #3

Falling for the Diva

Rate this book
He gave up the role of a lifetime when he walked away from her. Her greatest performance is concealing her secret. They’re cast as the ill-fated lovers in Carmen, but the real drama is offstage.

For three years, Giuseppe has carried the guilt and shame of running away from the woman he loves. Soon he’ll be holding her in his arms—onstage. Fiona’s reaction will tell him if they could have a second act, or if she’s cast him as the villain and found a new leading man. He’ll have to win her forgiveness and her love if there’s any hope of a happily-ever-after.

Since Giuseppe left her heartbroken, Fiona has lived a lie. Falling in love with him and dying by his hand at every performance are easier than dropping her act and having her life torn apart again. But revealing the truth could bring them both the greatest joy life can offer. They were young and innocent when they fell in love, but Fiona is older and wiser. She must protect her heart and those she loves. She can do this, right?

Giuseppe and Fiona will have to overcome their past to build a future together or their love will die when the final curtain falls.

Soapy Second Chance Love Story

3.5, rounding up.
This is book three in this series but can stand alone. I think reading from the beginning will really help with setting the stage in regards to the evil mother, who is spoken of in this book. Fiona has a healthy (and maybe slightly irrational) fear of her that literally dictates all the decisions of her life. At about 75% in I was getting frustrated with it so the last bit of the book drive me nuts. It felt a bit soapy, with high drama. Thank goodness for a patient, persistent male lead who rallies time after time. He deserves a gold medal.

I loved the addition of little Mia. She brought sweetness and innocence to the story. I enjoyed the chemistry, the kissing and setting.

Content: mention and some talk about intimacy outside of marriage with no details. Kissing.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
His greatest regret is walking away from her. Since Giuseppe left her heartbroken, Fiona has lived a lie, and she’ll do anything to keep him from the truth.

MY TAKE
This is the third book in the series, and it wasn't until I finished this one that I realized I missed #2. I'll have to search that one out soon.

Talk about a dysfunctional family. I feel so bad for all the adult kids, trying to deal with their tyrannical, elitist, social-climbing mother. Egads!

I'll be honest that I didn't think much of Giuseppe in the beginning. He came across as a major wuss, tugged along on his mother's apron strings. It's also harder to like someone who did what he did, especially when we only see if as something that happened in the past.

He finally does find the strength of will to follow his heart, and Fiona loves him enough to trust him this second time.

Little Mia was a delight.

Falling for the Diva is a sweet, emotional, second chance romance worthy of its own opera! Fiona is a great mother determined top protect those she loves. Giuseppe regrets having abandoned Fiona three years before and is clueless about how to repair their relationship. The two are still in love but very conflicted about how to proceed. There is so much angst, love, and regret in this well written story that it will keep you reading far into the night. I could not put it down!

This is a complex second chance at romance. Giuseppe and Fiona had a lot of life issues to sort out. I loved how great a mother Fiona was. This is a sweet, clean romance.

Giuseppe has spent the last three years regretting not standing up to his controlling mother when she demanded he walk away from Fiona. He's tried to keep himself very busy so he doesn't think about Fiona and what might've been. Now he's back in New York where they'll be the leads in the opera Carmen. Giuseppe wonders--does Fiona hate him? If she doesn't hate him, is there a chance she'd let them try again? Will he be able to kill the woman he loves and can't stop thinking about performance after performance? Should he back out of Carmen and go home to Italy?

Fiona must protect her heart and her secret at all costs. Can she afford to let Giuseppe back into her life? Performing with him onstage in Carmen is one thing, but allowing him back into her life and her heart is quite another.

They’re playing the ill-fated lovers in Carmen, but the real drama is offstage at this opera. is the perfect tagline for this second chance at love story. I really enjoyed this entire series about siblings from a family of opera singers. Giuseppi and Fiona had a lot to work through if they were going to be able to make this second chance work. Fiona had to be able to trust him completely because she has a BIG secret, which of course comes out, but not in the way she intended. Giuseppi needs to find the courage to follow his own path and not the path his mother intends for him. If he truly loves Fiona he'll realize that and make it happen.

I was happy that we didn't see much of Giuseppe's mother, Francesca, because she's a piece of work. She runs her children's lives to further her own in the operatic world and society in general. She doesn't care about what would make her children happy, which ends up coming back to bite her in the end (I wasn't a least bit sad about that at all).

This is book three in the series which all take place around the same time but in different parts of the world. I would love a follow up book that takes place a couple of years later so I could get a peek at how the siblings are doing.

This second chance at love romance is sweet and engaging. I found the characters to be lovable and intriguing. The love they share is never in question, but is love enough in the face of secrets, deceptions, and family animosity and manipulation?

Fiona and Giuseppe worked together and fell in love three years ago. They were happy and dreaming of a future together until he suddenly left her and cut off all contact. He not only betrayed her trust, he left her heartbroken. Now they will be working together again and Giuseppe is determined to win Fiona back. He is not prepared for the version of Fiona that he sees before him now. She has become a fierce, protective and doting mama bear with an adorable two year daughter. Nothing and no one is more important to her than little Mia, not even the man she loves and can never forget. Giuseppe is determined, lovesick and oh so charming, but a mother’s love and fears keeps Fiona from claiming a life with him. Is a happily ever after in their future or will there be more heartbreak?

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Giuseppe and Fiona met three years ago doing an opera. Francesca, Giuseppe’s mother did not think Fiona was good enough for her son. So, he left without a word. They are now cast in another opera and have to fast the past. I had never read a book that centered around the world of opera before. It was interesting to get a glimpse into it. Really enjoyed this book.

I was given this advanced copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

A great series overall! It was a delight to be behind the scenes at an opera and witness the siblings escape their mothers control.

This one is my favorite in the series! I loved it! Giuseppe and Fiona are both opera stars and have a past. They broke up though and he is determined to make things right. So he makes sure he is cast for the same production that she is in...Carmen. (Did you start singing or humming the well known song from it? I did!)

Lots of family drama and dynamics are contained within this book and this series. Giuseppe's family are the featured characters of this series and if you have or haven't been following along, the books are pretty much happening at the same time chronologically. So the further into the series you get, you'll see (or rather the characters will hear about) what's happening with his other family members. I really liked seeing that in this one as there were more revelations given. You could read this as a standalone but I think you'd enjoy it better reading them in order. I will warn you though that the second book, the mother is more prevalent and not my favorite person or character. She's pretty touchy and overbearing and strong. Just a heads up. But I am looking forward to what comes next for this opera dynasty family.

I loved figuring out all the ins and outs of Giuseppe and Fiona's past and watching them try to forge ahead and figure out if they have a future together. The scenes for Carmen that were played out, mostly through rehearsals, were awesome! The author did a great job of adding those aspects into the story and portraying it as if we were watching from the audience. If you're like me, you'll love cheering for these two to figure it all out! I really liked them a lot!

Content: There are some kisses between the characters, some stage kisses and some off stage. *spoiler alert*** Don't read this next part if you don't want a spoiler for the book...There is talk of adoption, and a child born out of wedlock. But it is written tastefully and there is nothing graphic or explicit.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Characters you can't help but root for!!!

I'm a forever Lisa Swinton fan, but "Falling for the Diva," is my favorite of all her books. Lisa always delivers strong characters with big dreams and secrets, but "Falling for the Diva" another of her opera-themed books, is beautiful, dramatic, tender, and swoon-worthy.

In Guiseppe, Lisa hands us a hero we want to skin-alive as the book opens, and who we love and root for before the curtain opens on "Carmen," which is the fun setting Lisa has chosen for this book. Equally powerful and engaging is Fiona, who is in an agonizing situation playing opposite the man who shattered her heart and life. I won't say more, but check out this book.

I love Swinton's research. She carries her readers away to exotic places and gives us glimpses into worlds and lifestyles we can only imagine. Thanks for another romance that swept me away.

This is a sweet second chance romance between Giuseppe and Fiona. In the book we get a taste of what happens behind the scenes at an Opera, family drama, and the great mom Fiona is. This is a great series.

Cute Story! Emotionally gripping. Great tension. Poor Giuseppe. He doesn’t know how to win Fiona’s heart back. This novel is fantastic with the delicious descriptions, especially once it gets to some of the opera scenes. Awesome!
