Newly confident in their feelings for each other, Himari and Yori are able to tackle their roles in their respective bands with fresh enthusiasm. Himari even convinces Yori to write a new song for SSGIRLS’ school culture festival performance, and this time, it’s going to be a group effort. This song will belong to the whole band, and they eagerly discover the ideas each of them has to contribute to its creation. Meanwhile, the members of Laureley have begun to open up to Himari and end up taking her on an unexpected day trip, where she learns some crucial details about the band’s past. But there’s one more secret she doesn’t know yet—one that will put Yori center stage in this emotional drama…
learning why laurely formed as a band made me so sad but their passion and determination makes so much sense now. i really hope that shiho and aki get a chance to sort things out in the next volume 😭
The dramatic secret behind Laureley stands revealed, as does everything that Shiho was trying to hide. Which is important, of course, but not as much as the outcome of Yori and Himari’s date.
There’s a lot to love in this series and it would be near perfect if a couple things about it didn’t ring well with me, but what it gets right is so good that it’s important to acknowledge the whole package.
The reason we’re here, Yori and Himari’s relationship, is fantastic and terribly fun. In fact, you could pretty much jettison everything else and just run with that based on how satisfying it is and the series would arguably be less emotionally deep but better for it.
After they got caught in the rain, let’s just say that the water quickly vaporizes when the two of them turn up the heat on one another at Yori’s place. I appreciate the manga that knows the joy of seeing your partner wearing your clothes and the flirting here is out of control. I also loved the quiet suggestion that Himari’s mom knows exactly what’s been going on in her daughter’s life and supports it all the way.
Beyond this, it’s an amazing choice that we absolutely and completely destroy any concerns about rivals or trying to steal Himari away or crap like that. And that happens because of, you know, trust and communication. I was glad to see that thread carried on from last volume and just stated plain as can be here.
This section is the star of the show - Himari has gotten progressively bolder as the series has gone on and she is just destroying poor Yori’s resolve every moment of this arc. Enough so that a little impromptu exhaustion (welcomely telegraphed from earlier) keeps things from going straight to the final frontier.
As much as I’ve enjoyed the way this rival band arc has dealt with a lot of its potential curves by not doing the most dramatic thing, it does walk that back a bit with the very fraught story of how Laureley came together.
Dead sisters, lost girlfriends, Shiho’s feelings of insecurity. It’s a whole lot of a whole lot piled into one to make what should be the most emo band of all time. I get that they need something to draw them all together, but this is probably bleaker than the series deserves.
I do like the mangaka’s steadfast refusal to make Shiho more sympathetic than is absolutely necessary. She takes everything pretty much the worst way possible and her reaction to her rival’s death is believable, but still pretty eyebrow raising. I’m always fascinated by stories where people feel they owe something to the dead and this entire band is filling a debt of that nature.
Oh, but don’t worry, Himari and Shiho get a little alone time and when Yori comes up we get a brand new side of Himari, plus a lot of revelations of things we already knew. But now everybody knows them and putting that elephant smack in the middle of such a small room means it just has to be looked at. Shiho’s misplaced spite is fantastic.
Also, it’s almost too bad that this series sits completely enmeshed in a yuri paradise, honestly, as the story steadfastly refuses to acknowledge men even exist. It might be a bit ‘of its genre’ that way, but I do feel it always makes these stories more fantastical when they’re otherwise quite grounded.
So, some okay band stuff, even our regular side characters are kind of just there this time out, but the parts that make up the meat of the series are as strong as they’ve ever been. Himari and Yori absolutely anchor this series, as they should.
4 stars - Whisper has always been a series about big emotions and I do believe the genesis of Laureley might be a bit too much, so a knock there, but the other stuff is just killing it.
Shiho's an even bigger jerk, but it's kinda cool, how the author's not even trying to make her likable. Or maybe she is, and it's only causing the opposite for me...
If Aki and Shiho really are gonne make up, I'm gonna scream. Out of unhappiness, that is. Aki deserves a happy ending and Shiho is like the opposite of a happy ending. That girl needs therapy really bad. Talk about your issues with Aki all you want and finally tell the truth, but I'm not gonna support any friendship. As I said in my review for volume 5, some things are better left alone.
I did love the scenes with Himari and Yori though! They're so cute!!! <3
It was so nice to be able to binge three whole volumes of my little sapphics today! They are the absolute sweetest couple I can't stand it. I learned that an anime adaptation is coming soon and I am so excited, I will be eagerly awaiting it's release. I love the art in these series, it's so magical and flowy and shiny, especially the hair and eyes, ugh it's gorgeous!
OHHHHH MY GOD NOW WE'RE TALKING. delicious delicious drama. suppressed love. bondings through grief. NGHHHHH. yeah this sounds like it was written for ME specifically. i am very normal about this volume and the direction in which the story is going. 100% completely normal i swear (is lying)
Another solid volume. I feel like this is a problem with the previous volumes but there’s too much focus on the side characters, especially Shiho. Though I do like what they’re doing with her character. She’s a bitchy rival but she has layers, she’s not completely evil Shoujo rival. You start to understand why she is how she is. I mean she’s a teen, teens can be like that. At first I hated her character but now my opinion has defiently changed hah. I don’t think I like her character but I think her character is interesting. But still I feel like it’s becoming more her story than Yori/Hima… we did get some cute moments with the couple. The first chapter was adorable and my favorite chapter of the volume. I wish there was more of that. I mean the b plot is pretty good and the drama is very juicy and keeps me wanting to read the next volume. But I wish there was a better balance between the romance plot and b plot. It seems like the balance is getting better, with more focus on the couples relationship developments. And I do think almost everyone in the cast having a sapphic romance drama is getting a little much. Idk it was handled better with Aki’s arc, but now Shiho is starting to have a bit romance drama. There’s a lot of drama in this series I guess, but it’s really good drama and there’s a cute fluffy romance to go along with it. In the end it’s Whisper me a love song, if you liked the other volumes you’ll love this. Idk how many more volumes the series will have. I hate keeping up with publishing manga, but I’ll make an exception for this. In fact while I was waiting to read this volume a new volume came out so I’ll be trying to get my hands on that.
Alors bien franchement, ça m’a moins impressionnée.
4 stars. This was a lot heavier than I was expecting with Shiho’s back story and why and how she formed her band. I really enjoyed that part because it added a lot of depth to her character and made it a bit easier to understand her and why she is the way that she is. Yori and Hima are still the cutest and sweetest couple ever. I love them. Also the scene where Hima stands up to Shiho about her hatred of Yori was great. This was another fantastic installment to the series and I need the next one immediately!
None of this, including the big reveal about Kyou, breaks the mold, but it's told well enough to keep me interested for seven volumes so far, and I'm looking forward to the next one.
A minor quibble is that Shiho's band's name was changed from Lorelei to... Laureley? What's going on here? The first name makes a lot more sense.
Takeshima expresses excitement about Whisper Me a Love Song being made into an anime. As of now, it's been delayed until April. I hope they have the opportunity to see their story brought to life.
So I literally stopped mid-read to consult book 5 because I was so confused by the twist. The scene in book 5 seemed to be the present only to find out it was a past scene and Kyou is dead. And she and Momoka were in love. This is surprising because I thought for sure Momoka has a thing for Kyou's sister Hajime. Honestly, I still think they're into each other, but I don't know how that could work out. It's a bit of a mess.
However, no surprises that Izumi is into Aki. I figured that was the problem.

WOW! It’s picking up well and now I have only one more volume left 😭. However, surprise surprise at the end the author notes that it was being turned into an anime so I’m super glad I’m reading this first. How rare! There hasn’t been much great lesbian anime out there if at all. Though this feels like the lesbian version of the anime “Given” (which was great). I’m curious how this ends. Personally, hoping for a snapshot of seeing the couple/couples in the future beyond high school ^.^

Decided to jump back into this series and power through the volumes I had left. So this review is for Volumes 7-10.
I just adore these two. They are so sweet and I just want more of their relationship constantly. I was shocked with one relationship but really happy that it happened by the end of the series. It's such a cozy series. Ends in such a lovely way and has some sweet extras in the last volume.
This volume cuts deep. Mikami and Shino visit the violin girl's grave. Yeah, so the whole idea Shino was going to have a major confrontation with the violin girl went up in smoke and instead is full of angst. This series definitely has a lot going for it.
It was nice to see a bit more of some of the other characters and get a few more answers and backstory stuff fleshed out. I’m still waiting patiently for Shiho to thaw but if anyone can get her there it’s Hima.
