The fourth book and conclusion to the Extreme Measures is a signature Lynette Eason action-packed, intensely suspenseful story. This is another hard to put down book about friends Raina Price, Advanced EMT for a medical flight team and US Marshal Vince Covelli. A chance view of ani interview of an Olympic hopeful snowboarder during a football game throws Raina into a tailspin. She knows the young boy is in danger of a killer, an ex-boyfriend who almost killed her years ago. Vince pushes Raina, a very private person, to let him help her. Thus starts a twisty and wild time of danger, attacks, suspense, and surprises that begins in Asheville, North Carolina and leads to Copper Mountain, Colorado. This is also a story of love, faith, and a great ending.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.

An intriguing romantic suspense!

I'd been waiting to read this new release by Lynette Eason, and it didn't disappoint.

Vince and Raina were both well-developed characters who had backstories that played into the plot. Poor Raina had been through such a hard time, and she had to go through a lot more before she got her happy ending. Her job as a flight paramedic was quite interesting, and I wish I'd gotten to "see" her in action more. Vince was also a cool character, and he got to use his US Marshal skills to try to keep Raina out of danger. Simon's perspective added an interesting twist and gave me a close-up view of the inner workings of the plot.

The plot was engaging given the suspenseful scenes, touching moments, and plentiful villains. I appreciated that Lynette Eason kept both the language and the romance clean. I thought the romance was well done. In a lot of romantic suspense books, the romance can feel rather rushed, so I liked that Vince and Raina had known each other for a good amount of time before the book started.

Overall, Countdown was an exciting read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.

Trigger warning: stalking, abusive boyfriends/husbands, and domestic violence

It’s always hard for me to say that I enjoyed a book when it deals with tough subjects like this one did. I enjoy the story, but I don’t enjoy seeing what the characters have gone through, obviously. It’s awkward to say that I enjoyed it, I’m sure other readers who have read this book or books like this know this dilemma.

First things first: I love the bit of a pro-adoption message, teared up at a few different parts and really liked the raw honesty that came with the faith discussions, which really took me by surprise and added to why I liked this book.

Vincent is a good guy, a bit pushy at times but realizes when it’s too much and backs off when needed. I thought that they were good together. Some of the romance was cheesy (particularly at the very beginning and very end) but they were cute together, so it didn’t bother me too much. I don’t typically like reading about a couple that already knew each other prior to the book starting, but it was okay with this one—also because I’ve read the prior books in the series and seen them together a bit before. I do wish Raina would have discussed things before jumping onto plans, but I gave her grace because she’s not used to including others. We—and they—trust her gut a lot, but I suppose that’s what’s needed when Raina has dealt with this stalker before.

This novel (like many others who feature a serial killer) really highlighted how a dysfunctional childhood can affect someone—either into rising above whatever it is and becoming a moral person or into becoming sociopath. We see Raina’s stalker’s family in one point of view and it showed a bit of how he became the way he is.

There was a lot of suspense in the book and I was eager to get to the justice scenes, so I feel like I might have read this book in a hurry. It was a satisfying conclusion to this series and not as bittersweet as I was expecting. I don’t think I could pick between this book and the third book, but the second book is definitely still my favorite from this series.

Clean Christian romantic suspense. Fab twists and plenty of action.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love finding an author that writes in such a manner that I want to keep reading and reading. From the first pages, I knew this one was going to be a great story!
The plot of this book is awesome! With a strong female lead, this story of stalking and protection is well balanced and Eason pours her soul into the action and multiple twists. While you may figure out who the bad guy is, I think it ramps up the pace and adds some heart-pounding to the book.
With a lovely building romance building right along with the suspense, Countdown is a well-balanced story that offers a sweet, supportive, and fierce love for Raina. I love his positivity and caring soul.
This is the first book I have read by Eason. I love her storytelling gift and will definitely check out more from her, including the other three books in this series! I love the strong women she features. Countdown offers great twists and plenty of action, along with a slow-burn love to keep those pages turning!
Great conclusion to the series!
In Countdown we get flight paramedic Raina's story. She's one of four close friends that bonded while at a juvenile detention center years prior. Raina has a successful career and one she enjoys. Yet she lives in constant fear that her past will catch up to her. She wants to protect those she loves from the wrath of her former boyfriend.
It was an exciting journey. While I figured out who the villain was before the reveal, that didn't detract from my enjoyment.
My gratitude to the author and publisher (Revell) for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
An enjoyable race of a read as Raina Price tries to survive a stalker who has resurfaced in her life. Or has he? This book is an intense romantic suspense that has the reader crossing the country along with the hero and heroine in a race to get the bad guy/s before they can harm a 13-year-old star athlete. Richly layered and engaging with just the right amount of romance and characters from earlier books in the series.
What an exciting fourth book in the Extreme Measures series! It’s another edge of your seat thriller from Lynette Eason that had me quickly turning the pages. I easily devoured this in a day because it was so hard to put down. It’s a well written, inspirational, romantic suspense with endearing characters, an original plot, and a cruel, dangerous stalker.
Flight paramedic Raina Price has secrets and hopes she’s finally escaped her past. When she sees a familiar looking twelve year old boy on tv who’s a talented Olympic hopeful, she worries that his life may be in danger. Though Raina has a difficult time opening up and trusting others, she decides to override her fears and trust handsome US Marshall Vince Corelli when he offers his help.
Vince Corelli’s been intrigued by Raina since he first met her. She always seemed so out of reach, but when she agrees to go to dinner with him and finally opens up, he vows to do everything in his power to help her. But, in addition to the boy, Raina’s life is in danger when her past finally catches up to her. Will he be able to protect both Raina and the young boy before it’s too late?
From North Carolina to the Colorado mountains, this book was one wild ride full of twists and turns! There were so many suspenseful moments and things I didn’t see coming. Balanced with the action and mystery is an enjoyable romance between Vince and Raina. Raina struggles with her fears and having faith. She also worries about how others will perceive her. Vince also has things in his past he regrets and I enjoyed the way these two worked through their struggles together.
It’s an action-packed, suspenseful, nail-biter that’ll keep you reading late into the night, with a sweet, tender romance and touch of faith. Highly recommend this entire series! Though it’s the fourth book, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. 4 1/2 stars raised to 5.
Wowzers...that got intense and I mean...poor, Vince... couldn't seem to catch a break.
Characters:
Raina was super sweet, and I felt so bad for her and the things that had happened in her past.
Vince was...endearing from the start, he just wanted Raina to know she could trust him and that he'd help protect her. His past was just as heartwrenching... but still, I loved him and his steadfast faith!
It's always fun to see cast from previous books show up, too!
Themes:
God can use even the worst times in our lives for good. That was really an overarching theme of the series, and I loved it.
Romance:
Slight, but adorbs because they'd known each other for over a year before the book started.
Language:
N/A
Violence/Gore:
Someone gets drugged, shot at, grazed, hit with a piece of shrapnel, almost burned alive, kidnapped, threatened, murdered and mentions of a man beating people yo death never on screen or described in detail.
Overall:
This series is intense and was on the edge of your seat type reading. If you enjoy that, sprinkled with some super heartfelt moments, then definitely give it a try!
This 4th and last book in Eason's Extreme Measures series will keep you turning pages from start to finish. This book focuses on the last of the flight paramedics, Raina Price. Raina, Penny and Holly all knew each other from being in juvenile detention at the same time. Each has turned their life around and found a niche where they currently are working together. Raina, though, has a past from which she is still running; but has the time come when it will catch up with her? Will her new friend, Vince, be able to help her make her way through attempt after attempt to kill her and anyone from her past? And who is the real villain: her ex or someone else?
Filled with twists and turns and an ending that totally surprised me, I loved every page of the conclusion to this series. Don't miss this well written suspense novel along with the previous 3 that, once again, combined to bring an amazing suspense series from Lynette Eason.
Wowza! What a crazy and wonderful thrill ride! I’m one of Lynette Eason’s biggest fans, her books are always on my most anticipated releases list, and Countdown was no exception! I have loved Raina and been so intrigued to learn her story since first meeting her in Life Flight, and Countdown most definitely did not disappoint! Raina and Vince made such a great couple! My heart broke for Raina, and while I have not been through the same things she had I can totally relate to her struggle to trust God! The faith story in this book was beautifully written, and touched my heart so deeply! Vince was an amazing hero, I loved that he was strong and tough, but also didn’t shy away from being gentle and tender with Raina, and I also loved that he wasn’t afraid to share his emotions!
The mystery had my eyes glued to the page, and the suspense was everything and more that I have come to expect from a Lynette Eason novel, loved that!
I loved absolutely everything about Countdown, and my only complaint would be that I was sad to say goodbye to the characters from the Extreme Measures series!
I most highly recommend Countdown, and I cannot wait to read the next series from this amazing author!
The reason I have rated this book 5 stars and not 4 isn't because the language is brilliant or that it had special insights, but because I didn't even think to peek at the back until it was after my bedtime and I knew I couldn't sleep--since my children were very young I have peeked at the ending to see if I want to finish and I avoid hearing anything about the middle parts of books (so I don't read long reviews before finishing a book since they usually give away the kinds of things I don't want to know.) Even though the romance was predictable and the romance writing about that wasn't special, the rest of the story had me on my toes and in the moment.
In other words, Eason has done a great job on writing the thriller/suspense part of this book. My ratings of her books have ranged from 2-5 stars and only gave the first book in this series 3 stars, and for this series I would say that I rated my experience reading it as well as the books. I'll be the first to admit that some of the writing is a bit cheesy (the romance stuff) but then I'm not a huge fan of romance novels, partly for that very reason.
There was at least one great twist in this novel that was unexpected.
This new suspense from Lynette Eason did not disappoint as suspected. I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout the series while trying to figure out what was going on.
Certain later reveals I did guess earlier on, but the action and suspense kept me flipping the pages.
I really loved the trust message throughout the story as well as the second chance message which was delivered during the whole series.
Stop the bad stuff before it even starts.” “If he did that, we wouldn’t get to see him work, would we? What good is faith if you have no opportunity to exercise it?”
Even though this is the final book in a series, each book does stand alone, but readers who enjoyed the series from the start with love catching up with characters they got to know and love.
Countdown, Lynette Eason's conclusion to the Extreme Measures series, and finally the story of the mysterious Raina. Her story does not disappoint. We get a lot of closure in this book, not just for Raina but with glimpses of the other leading ladies from the previous books. That being said, this could be read as a stand alone or out of order. I enjoyed the stories fast pace, it kept me interested and it was a quick read. It is clean and I appreciate that. I have read enough Lynette Eason, that the ending didn't really surprise me. But I was fully satisfied.
Wonderful book with all the elements I appreciate: Superb plot, great characters, never ending suspense, growing trust giving way to a slow romance, intense hunt for a bad guy, protecting a child and a faith inclusion that was so very genuine I actually sighed.
Very good, unique book!
I ended up listening to Countdown as an audio book and enjoyed the conclusion to this exciting series.
I liked the connection between Raina and Vince. I felt for him as the story began and he was trying to be there as a friend for Raina, while truly wanting more than friendship. But Raina had many secrets, which kept her from trusting or giving her heart to men. Yet, when things began to go wrong, Vince was who she turned to. I really enjoyed the way their relationship grew and developed throughout all of the turmoil of the book.
This story could probably be enjoyed even if you haven't read the other books in the series. There was romance, danger, secrets, and a past that Raina had to finally face in order to move on in her life. I especially enjoyed the last few chapters as everything rolled together for a satisfying conclusion.
Try as I might, I just can't read a Lynette Eason novel like a normal person. I tend to devour them like I'm starving for intense action, surprising twists, and sigh-worthy romance.
Countdown is bittersweet. It's the end of a fabulous series, and time to say goodbye to some memorable friends. But oh, so satisfying!
Raina is so easy to love despite being the prickliest heroine of the quartet. And Vincent is just the greatest hero, always having her back and trying to gently win her heart.
That ending? Even after reading every book Eason has ever written, I did NOT see it coming! So very gratifying.
I received an advance copy from publisher. My review is not solicited and is my honest opinion.
Flight paramedic Raina Price has been a bit of a mystery in her tight group of friends. They don't know her deepest secrets. As much as she cares for them it is safer this way. She is terrified of letting anyone get too close. She has been building herself up, working out, preparing for a day that she knows is coming. She doesn't know when, but she feels the countdown is on.
US Marshal, Vince Covelli has been interested in Raina for months. He can tell something is bothering her and wishes she would just trust him. He may regret that wish.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced reader's copy of the book. This is my own unsolicited opinion about it. It is the final book in an action packed series. It works as a stand-alone but I think you will want to read each book.
It's easy to care about Raina and Vince. They both have deep pain and regret about their pasts. They share faith in God and that is an opportunity to bond. Someone is out to get Raina and there are multiple threats to her life. This is an intense, fast-paced and suspenseful read. It's a book I couldn't put down.
Flight paramedic Raina has a very private life with a few friends. She also has a dangerous secret.
US Marshall Vince strives to protect his charges and uphold the law.
In this fast-paced romantic suspense story, Raina and Vincent combine forces when Raina’s past threatens to catch up with her in the most deadly way.
Lynette Eason's Countdown: Extreme Measures features great dialogue, exciting action, and a strong sense of menace drive this story to its surprising and satisfying conclusion. Fans of Terri Blackstock, Dani Pettrey, and Colleen Coble will enjoy this book.
Countdown by Lynette Eason offers readers an intriguing thrill ride! Raina Price isn’t who she says she is. She’s been on the run for years, hiding from a stalker. But she comes out of hiding, with the help of US Marshal Vincent Corelli, to protect someone innocent. And once she steps into the light, she becomes a target.
I love this story. There’s quite a bit of drama which adds to the suspense. Readers will go on a journey to uncover the truth about what happened to Raina as she and Vince race to stop a killer from striking again. The romance adds a nice balance, as it’s not rushed. Raina’s been in hiding for so long, she doesn’t know how to let anyone into her life.
The entire Extreme Measures series is fantastic but be sure to check out Countdown and clear your calendar for the weekend. You won’t want to put this novel down.
This novel centers around Raina, a woman with a troubled past. She is a survivor, however, and has managed to create a good life for herself. That life is now being threatened. Most of the narrative of this novel deals with the developing romance between her and Vince. There is quite a bit of character thought included so the suspense is periodic.
But there is a good deal of suspense. One of my pet peeves is suspense happening because of unwise action by characters who should know better. Shortly after a failed attempt on Raina's life, Vince takes her to a very vulnerable location, a lake. They go on an open pontoon boat with no additional protection around. They have been followed and, of course, shots are fired and suspense follows. They manage to live through it but then, later, they are on a drive, by themselves with no additional protection, and are rear ended and suspense follows again. I don't like danger resulting because the hero makes such unwise choices. I like it much more when the villain outwits a smart hero.
This is a romantic suspense novel for readers who like an emphasis on potential romance and don't mind suspense generated by bad decisions of the characters. The faith message is subtle, but there is a good exploration of forgiving others who have done great damage to us or those we love. One realizes we have probably all made decisions that have hurt others, suggesting we have a more forgiving attitude.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
I loved it! Countdown by Lynette Eason is another edge-of-your-seat story in the Extreme Measures series. What a perfect end to the series. The story of a dangerous stalker, a US Marshall Vincent Corelli, and flight paramedic Raina Price trying to escape her past kept me reading way past my bedtime! Sweet banter, a journey of faith over fear, and moving beyond the past was a joy to read. Lynette Eason with her amazing signature story telling keeps the reader engaged and turning pages. Excellent romantic suspense, I enjoyed every moment, and highly recommend Countdown! I can't wait to see what's next for this author!
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
“What good is faith if you have no opportunity to exercise it?”
When danger escalates, Raina and Vince’s faith gets a workout. Flight paramedic Raina has a past she is trying to hide because someone is after her. Vince Corelli, a US Marshall is part of the close knit group of friends she hangs out with. Vince is a solid Christian who looks out for his buddies and wants to protect Raina.
This was a fast paced, exciting story with twists and turns that I have come to expect from Ms. Eason. I like that the hero was steady, caring and not pushy. Raina was unsure about her faith but was encouraged by her friends and Vince. The story was written in such a way that you knew which direction the threat was coming from but not who the actual perpetrator was.
Never a dull moment for Raina and Vince with enough mystery to keep you guessing and valuable spiritual lessons to learn. Quite the nail biter with well developed characters , both good and evil. A fitting conclusion to the series.
Countdown is the last book in th Extreme Measures series by Lynette Eason. I have enjoyed all the books in the series but this one is the favorite. Even though this book is part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone. There is nothing in the book that would be a spoiler if you wanted to read the others in the series. In this book Raina who was formerly Brianna is hiding from her stalker, a man who she was in an abusive relationship with. This book was fast-paced and got my attention from the first page. There are some twists toward the end. Lynette Eason never disappoints with delivering an on the edge of your seat suspense novel. Thanks to Librarything and the publisher Revell books for providing me an ARC book to review. All reviews are my own.
Another solid offering from Lynette Eason. I loved getting to know Raina and Vincent better and it was a lot of fun catching up with the other main characters from this series. As always, there was plenty of nail-biting suspense and action with surprising plot twists, as well as strong faith threads. The sweet tender romance between Raina and Vince was a friends-to-more trope and even though Raina has a lot of baggage, Vince patiently pursued her. Faith lessons of trusting God to be in control were relatable and relevant.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, you will definitely enjoy this book and series. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Revell via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
FANTASTIC end to the 'Extreme Measures' series. I always felt like Raina was a bit of a 'shadowy' character in the first three novels . . . someone I couldn't really get a good 'read' on. Turns out there was a big reason for that!
I love that Clay's buddy Vince was the romantic 'match' for Raina. They'd been 'hanging out' with the group together, so they already knew each other as friendly acquaintances, but Vince definitely was angling for more. I loved his constancy . . . not just to Raina, but more so to God . . . and he would gently remind Raina that it was okay to trust God, even when the outcome wasn't what was expected or even wanted.
The suspense in this story was off the HOOK! Seriously! I did figure out that there was something going on in addition to Raina's former stalker trying to find her, but I never figured out what or who or why until the reveal!
Definitely my favourite Lynette Eason book to-date!
Countdown by Lynette Eason is the fourth book in her Extreme Measures series. It is a suspenseful, romantic thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
The story follows Raina Price, a flight paramedic who is being stalked by a dangerous man. She has been running for years, but the stalker is always one step behind her. When she is almost killed in an attack, she is assigned a US Marshal, Vincent Corelli, to protect her.
Vincent is determined to keep Raina safe, but he soon realizes that the stalker is more dangerous than he thought. As they work together to solve the mystery of Raina's past, they must also race against time to stop the stalker before he strikes again.
Countdown is a well-written and exciting novel with a strong cast of characters. Raina is a relatable and likable heroine, and Vincent is a charming and protective hero. The suspense is high throughout the book, and the plot twists will keep you guessing until the very end.
If you enjoy suspenseful thrillers with a touch of romance, then you will love Countdown. It is a page-turner that you won't be able to put down.
Here are some additional thoughts on Countdown:
The suspense is excellent. The author does a great job of keeping the reader guessing and on the edge of their seat.
The characters are well-developed and relatable. I found myself rooting for Raina and Vincent throughout the book.
The romance is slow-burn and sweet. It doesn't feel forced or out of place in the story.
The Christian elements are subtle and don't detract from the story.
Overall, I highly recommend Countdown. It is a well-written, suspenseful, and romantic thriller that you won't want to miss.
If you're looking for similar authors to Lynette Eason, I would recommend Hallee Bridgeman, Lynn Blackburn, and Janice Cantore.
