Dark magic and a raging libido can get a girl in trouble…
They say never mix magic with pleasure, but after one too many bad dates, that's exactly what I do.
To my surprise, instead of getting off, I get a portal to another realm and a hulking, terrifying monster in my bedroom. As expected, he isn’t happy to be there.
But there's another problem.
My dark magic has bound us together, making our desires undeniable and putting us both in grave danger.
Breaking the spell means losing the one thing I fought so hard to find.
And I’m not sure I’m willing to lose my monstrous lover just yet.
Harper A. Brooks may be a Jersey girl at heart, but now she likes to hideout in the mountains of Virginia with bigfoot and all his little woodland friends. Even though classic authors have always filled her bookshelves, she finds her writing muse drawn to the dark, magical, and romantic. When she isn’t creating entire worlds with sexy shifters or legendary love stories, you can find her either with a good cup of coffee in hand or at home snuggling with her furry, four-legged son, Sammy.

I can always count on R.K. Pierce to deliver a great monster romance but I definitely noticed Harper A. Brooks’ writing who is a new to me author. I’m desperate to check her work out now!
I loved the sex positivity. Loved it. Bea knew what she wanted and went after it, she had no shame or qualms 💛. And Roran was just the right amount of reluctant (about the presence of a strange human, not the sex) and intrigued with his new life. The story left off with a HFN that could be considered HEA which I adored because it didn’t rush the feelings or confessions like some novellas do.
This novella was short but had a fully developed and complete story which impressed me. There weren’t any loose ends 👌🏻.
⭐️⭐️Arc Review⭐️⭐️ This book was a lot of firsts for me. First time as an ARC reader. First time to read this author. First time I ever wanted a monster of my very own😂 This was a solid 4 star read for me. I loved how quickly I became invested in Bea and her situation. The one and only thing I disliked was that it ended so quickly. I need more☺️ Now I’m off to grab another RK Pierce book to get lost in.

Roran was a little jarring. He went from wanting to kill her to being in love? I mean I’ll give it some benefit of the doubt because it’s a romance book 😂 but that fast shift gave me whiplash.
I also wish we got more at the end. Like I wanna know just a bit more of how she’s going to survive.
2.5 stars rounded down, quick read, filthy, sometimes funny, decent smut but ultimately lacking. I like my porn with plot (or at least something to immerse me consistently in the story- like more than surface-level character development that makes me feel a little less like reading "Slot A went sluttily into Slot B" stuff) so if you are going to provide one, I feel it needs to...work. I am wondering whether to tag this as romance or not because the two MCs fall in insta-love before even the first round of insta-lust that was signed up for, is over. No problem with instalust in an erotica novella, but the love...eh. The story "beats" in this novella could have been believable if this was a full length book and it had been structured differently, but I'm not sure that could have saved it.
- The plot twist at the end was snoozily easy to guess by about the 45-50% mark. Chekhov left a big smoking black grimoire at the start of the story. There was never any real sense of tension or danger, which is part of what makes the whole "I can tear you limb from limb but instead I'll protect you"-trope hot, in my opinion. The author tried, but I didn't feel it.
- The author has competent but inconsistent writing skills. Another reviewer I said that the story did not "flow" well, and I agree. The language, vocabulary, and getting across the point is very much there. And the sex scenes are *mostly* hot, although the humor from the FMC is sometimes what I believe is colloquially referred to as a "boner-killer" when it doesn't land. When it does land, it is pretty witty and entertaining, but it's also fairly juvenile and straightforward.
- The same reviewer I mentioned had the same secondary (and related to writing) grievance as me, which is that the characters feel like they act inconsistently, and don't fit in with the world. I didn't need this to be The Silmarillion: Sex Edition but, in a world where "monsters" are a predominant and established race, I found it immersion-breaking to read that...they call themselves "monsters", refer to others of their kind as "monsters", and not even with a capital M for effort. That's like a story set on a realistic present-day planet earth referring to people as "humans" all the time.
I do think the author is pretty decent at writing smut, but with the occasional interjection from the FMC with lines such as ...I'm not entirely convinced. This is an example of one of those ill-timed attempts at internal dialogue humor that just threw me out of it (even though sure, the rest of the scene was hot).
Another thing I consider lazy writing cropped up once here, unfortunately in relation to monster cocks again...
I've read 3 books in the last 2 months that had a line that did this. An alien romance space opera that rather than just trusting its readers to infer that it's clearly set in a campy Star-Trek/Wars adjacent universe, still described something as being "like straight out of Star Trek", and Stephen King's Fairytale, a book I highly enjoyed but still couldn't be forgiven when a teenager who should have had plenty of current pop culture knowledge grounded in the time it's set in, describing something as being "like out of an epic movie".
I once read that a sign of an unsure writer is the use of the phrase "seemed like", something with which I don't entirely agree (I think it's situational), but this is the more grievous form of that with which I wholly agree. It's lazy and unimaginative.
As for the characters, I don't normally like FMCs like Bea (arrogant, self-centered, snarky, rude) but I did actually like her for the most part, because her dialogue is fun and entertaining when it doesn't fall flat. Her impulsive dumbassery reminds me of a character someone I once DM'd for made (they were playing that character like that on purpose) and it's purposeful here, too. It just only works some of the time.
Roran the MMC reads as being far more human than he should be in his intellect and inner language, tone, thinking patterns once you strip the window trimmings away. Sure it makes him attractive within the trope, but again the problem is that there is no room or time for insta-love in a short story like this.
Overall, the characterization is lacking and very predictable early on, especially when Bea stops being quite such a wildcard; it was fun to see how she got herself into a stupid/potentially sex crazed mess at the start that escalated very quickly, but it mellowed out almost immediately right when the stakes should have gone higher. And she alternates between being a fiery snarkflower and immediately voluntarily becoming Roran's tender home-cooking waifu (although, the cooking actually ends up being egalitarian, but it somehow didn't feel that way). And, Roran does NOT act like I would imagine any "monster" who has lived in the kind of world he lives in, would think or act.
If there hadn't been POV-centric chapter breaks with obvious context, the inner monologues and the conversational language the characters use was not very distinct and (when not in various lust frenzies) almost pedestrian. There were snippets of PG-rated conversation that could have taken place in a Starbucks over coffee, not in a cave in a world ravaged by dark magic and overflowing magma and dingy caverns with burnt-out forests and predators everywhere. I found Bea's voice believable in its very modern, horny inappropriateness but I really wasn't sold on Roran. This might as well have been a time travel story where he is a caveman who happens to also suddenly have the manners of a chivalrous gentleman from over a millenia later, at least whenever he's not trying to kill Bea.
Eh, still, enjoyable quick read? Yes despite all the problems, I'd consider skimming some of this author's non-novellas and seeing if they check out. Aside from the spoiler texted quotes, some of it was pretty hot, and I think these were the best written scenes if you can ignore the bloopers.
Good premise, middling execution at best. I guess if you just want to read some monster-fucking smut then pick this up, but there's plenty of that stuff up to this caliber available online *without* plot. Like I said, I need at least a semblance of it to uphold a fantasy, and the lack of worldbuilding and inconsistent, shallow characterization didn't do it for me.
I didn't hate this, and nearly rounded it up to 3 stars before I reached about the 40% mark. I'm not sure if a full length book would have been a good idea, but it would have left breathing room for things that just got rammed in (no pun intended...) and could have let the author leave a lot less of the responsibility on the reader for things they did not have the story beats time to cram in so close together, or possibility the ability to do at all, like to make the characters feel more consistent and much less like NPCs (especially the side characters... if you've ever played an RPG, it felt like they appeared for a few brief cut scenes or scripted events, exactly right on time only to never be seen again until the quest/plot required them to reappear, if it did at all. Not great)
Maybe my standards for bottom-of-the-barrell smut are too high, IDK. I really wouldn't even say this *was* bottom-of-the-barrel though, I've read books that make this one look high-brow by comparison, but just...eh, it lacked what I require.

Extra spicy with a dose of sweet and a surprising amount of depth for a novella. There is a fun twist at the end - makes me think there will be another book??
The spice was sublime. There was a great balance between the spicy scenes and plot, which can be hard to do in a novella. It was funny, heartwarming, and just enough conflict to keep the story interesting.
She didn’t mean to summon a monster, just a monster dick. And once she did, she was pleasantly surprised… until he accidentally brings her through a portal to his realm. The monster realm is not safe for humans, and Bea must find her way home. But now that she’s had a taste of her monster, does she even want to leave?
This is a fun, spicy, quick read. I recommend to readers who have an open mind and enjoy books like the ice planet barbarian series.
I’m a whore for thick & ridged monster dick ✨ I’d say I’m addicted to monster smut… but that would be the UNDERSTATEMENT of the year This was perfection *chefs kiss* 😙🤌🏻
✅️ Size Difference ✅️ Monster x Human ✅️ Weird 🍆 ✅️ Mate Bond ✅️ Spells gone awry ✅️ Slight Twist ✅️ HEA
This was a spicy fantasy novella between a Witch and a Monster. The mixture of writing by Harper A. Brooks and R.K. Pierce was blended and flowed so well together, I'd love a full-length novel written by them.
Bea is a pink haired, sassy witch who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it.
Roran is a bald headed monster just living his life.
Bea wants some good rough loving after being on so many failed and bland dates. Her best friend Gemma (who owns a morgue! How freakin' cool is that?!) Mentions how it would be cool to be able to summon a lover. Against better judgment, that's exactly what Bea does.
The spell goes awry, and Bea ends up summoning a very angry Roran. They end up forming a Mate Bond and end up back on his home plane. Together, they work to break the spell and send her home.
I absolutely loved the chemistry they had. Right from the start, I was rooting for them and their HEA. The twist at the end was perfect, I honestly didn't see it coming.
R.K. Pierce is definitely becoming one of my top 5 favorite authors I've found and read in 2022. 👏🏻 I can't wait to see what fantastically beasties she brings to us in the new year.
Thank you to the author for the chance to read and review this.

Monstrous Bond by Harper A. Brooks and R.K Pierce is a delicious monster romance sure ti please any monster loving fan out there! The way these two authors worked together to create such a brilliant storyline and fabulous characters to fall in love with was absolutely amazing to read.
When our tenacious heroine Bea encounters one bad date after another, thus fearless witch decides it’s time to step it up a notch and summon a sex demon. Because hey. A girl has needs! Except of course things can’t be easy for Bea, and things definitely take an unexpected turn when the ‘demon’ she summons doesn’t appear to follow the rules…but she’s not exactly complaining after a quick little Russel turns very, very heated.
That is until they both suddenly find themselves pulled into a portal with and united by an unexpected tether that neither had foreseen. With danger and new challenges lurking around every corner of this new monstrous world, Roran and Bea must work together in order to reverse the magic done and get Bea home. The question is…does she still want to return?
Overall if you love an intense, fast paced, monster loving romance full of action and adventure, steamy heat and explosive chemistry and non stop danger and twists then this is the one for you as Brooks and Pierce for sure make a dynamic duo!
Honest ARC Review: This short novella was so well rounded and I really enjoyed the story. Bea is a witch that is struggling in her dating life. Not only are all the guys she goes out with losers, they are also majorly lacking in bedroom skills. One day she decides to take matters into her own hands and attempts to summon an incubus. Things don’t go as planned and she summons a monster. Roran was just minding his business when he is ripped from his home and dropped in front of a tiny female witch. Obviously he’s pissed but he also can’t help but appreciate her beauty and her body. When Bea attempts to send this monster back she gets sucked into a different world. As the two of them try to figure out how to get Bea back to her world they each struggle with their attraction. The tension and back and forth between these two was so great. The struggle between embracing what they want and trying to do what they think is the best was so endearing. This would be a great short read for a monster romance reader who likes their hero’s actually monstrous!
Arc Review I was super excited about this book as some of my favourite paranormal romance books have always been ones where magic is used to summon a dream lover and this follows that recipe, except the recipe is a lot darker and dirtier than some I've read!
I really enjoyed the beginning and the whole spellcasting part. Once the monster, Roran, arrives, our heroine Bea, is actually terrified and tries to run away from the huge brute she's summoned. I really liked the more realistic scared response she had and that the monster was freaked out and ticked off too before they got together.
It slowed down a bit for me in the middle with the other world and traveling about, I think I assumed it'd be more spicy but there's a quest the characters go on instead, which was fun but I was wanting more danger or emotional turmoil I think.
The steamy scenes are very hot and Roran has a unique tip to his equipment which was very interesting.
It's a solid story for the length, with unique characters. I loved that Roran was meant to be kinda ugly and scary and I liked that goth witch Bea had pink hair.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "MONSTROUS BOND" This was such an interesting, delightful paranormal romance, with humor, angst, plenty of steam, twists you never saw coming. Beatrix aka Bea is a witch who practices Dark Magic she's had one up many bad dates with her raging libido she manages to get herself in trouble when she dies a summoning spell trying to bring a sex demon to her. Roran came through the portal p*ssed off being stolen from his home angry at Bea her pentagram can't hold him back they kiss & get pulled back to where he's from she's his mate not something he wants she can't live in his world she human it's to dangerous for her to be there. I definitely recommend to get this very interesting, entertaining story Bea & Roran fighting the bond that connects them it becomes stronger he worries about he can break the bond returning her home again then they both get a surprise they never expected you won't believe what's happens next, will Bea stay with her mate, can they have a HEA you must get this book to see what happens. LOVED IT A MUST READ FOR SURE!!!!!
This was the PERFECT length, the chemistry between our MC’s was fantastic.
I can’t say I was expecting to be hot and bothered over an Orge type monster but hey here we are 😂 our main man is Charming, affectionate and brave! He’s also GENEROUS ❤️🔥
Our leading lady is just divine, she’s gorgeous, clever, loyal and funny. She knows what she wants and goes for it! I wish I knew what came after the end for those two but that’s the fun of it they can be off doing god knows what.
I loved their relationship , the magic aspect was really fun if it had been a full length book it would have been cool to explore but perhaps we will get more books in this universe perhaps? (Pls)
Now the Spicy scenes are aplenty and they were SO HOT you’ll want a cold shower for sure because phew 😮💨 overall I loved this novella and I loved seeing these two write together hopefully they’ll collaborate again in future because this was fantastic ❤️🔥
This was short, spicy, and fun! I I absolutely loved Bea, she’s a spitfire who’s witty, indecisive, and just wants to get laid lol. She’s tired of dealing with losers and is ready for a night with a demon daddy! Unfortunately for her, things are never that simple. She does get a monster but it definitely doesn’t play out how she imagined. Roran is broody and likes being alone. The physical attraction to Bea is undeniable but he didn’t sign up to be tethered to her. Watching them be forced together while disliking but secretly liking one another was exactly what I was looking for from this novella!
I highly recommend! It’s spicy and will have you laughing. Best of both worlds! 🙌🔥
This was not my first rodeo when it comes to R.K Pierce, but was my first Harper A. Brooks book. It was everything I've come to love with Rori's books. It's smutty af, the banter and the connection between characters is always on point.
I honestly loved Bea, she was sarky, strong willed and just wanted a decent lay. I loved Roran and how he went from just wanting her gone to caring about her. The two of them in the forest honestly reminded me so badly of Shrek and Donkey when they first meet🤣
I loved the world building and something you come to love from R.K Pierce's books is her ability with world building, doesn't matter wether its a novella or a novel, the way she builds her worlds and drags you right in is impeccable.
I can't wait to dive into some more of Harpers books based on this one!
“There’s only me, and Roran, and his hard, ribbed cock that’s turning me into a kebab.”
Bea just wanted to have a good lay for once and perhaps find that special someone. When all hope is lost, Bea turns to dark magic, I mean what could go wrong when one is performing dark magic with a raging libido? Definitely not what she expected.
I like the chemistry between Bea and Roran. I like that there is a little world building and plot around the monster smut, however, I felt like I needed more, but that’s just me. I saw the twist coming, I just had this nagging feeling on who it was and I was right.
With all that being said, I really enjoyed this monstrous bond novella and highly recommend it if you’re in the mood for a short, sweet, steamy monster f**king novella.
To be honest, I generally don't read short books with magic as an element because I think, "There's no way the author would be able to create a whole new world in such a short story," but I was pleasantly surprised by how easily the author did exactly that in this book. Magic and the underworld were described just enough for an image to form in the reader's mind without them wondering about the rest of the fictional world, like in Harry Potter or Percy Jackson.
Roran and Bea were characterised really well, too. I liked the descriptions of Roran best - especially the part where we find out he has a tongue-like appendage at the top of his dick. Now, I'll be disappointed when every other monster in fiction doesn't have that too.
I would like to start off this review by saying thank you to the author "K.R. Pierce" for giving me an ARC! I've ARC reviewed one of her books before (Monster's Bride) and I loved it so I was happy and thrilled to read yet another one of her books!
🎀 - Quick Review
With that being said I can 100% say that I LOVED this book!
If you are looking for a short, quick and semi spicy Monster read then this is the book for you! This is also a perfect book if you are new to Monster F*cker books.
💗- Afterword
Bae and Roran where quite a sweet "Grumpy X Sunshine" couple and I really fell in love with them!
I also really wished for a bit more but this was a short standalone novella so I understand. (I'm just a fan of bigger lengthened books so I can get lost in the worlds.)
💓 - Favorite Quotes/Scenes
“I was trying to summon a s*x demon and got you instead. I’ll gladly send you back if you’ll just let me go.” “A s*x demon,” “I’ll do you the favor of letting you ride my c*ck before I k*ll you, little human, since you so desperately crave something in your p*ssy. That sounds fair to me.”
Harper A. Brooks and R.K. Pierced knocked my socks right off with this novella! I only had two complaints. One: I needed it to be like a bajillion and three pages because that spice was FIRE!!!! YAAASSSSS!!!! Two: Why am i not a witch who can summon a seggsy demon?! Ugh I’m seriously so jelly. I want him to tell me he’s doing me a favor and will let me ride his c*ck before he ends me. Like wow that was my favor quote in the entire thing probably. Was there a bunch of character development and all that jazz? Nah. Was I looking for it in this novella? Absolutely not. I expected a spicy monster romance to fulfill fantasies I didn’t know I had and thats what I was given. These two authors did a fantastic job and I look forward to reading more from both of them!
This was such a fun, steamy and entertaining story. It's a shorter read but the authors did a fab job detailing the characters. I wasn't sure how things would unfold with how they started off with rage, but the attraction between them was hot. The more time they spent together, the more they found great things about each other, and while they were on a quest to get Bea back to her own world, love bloomed. I loved that Bea wasn't afraid to go for what she wanted sexually and yeah, Roran gave her everything she didn't know she needed, to boot ;P I found myself rooting hard for them. This has a HFN feeling so I'm hopeful for more books set in this world ;D
Mixing dark magic and a raging libido is never going to go well, and it really doesn't for Bea when she opens a portal and a monster steps through before she's dragged to his world.
Honestly, the only thing I was sad about with this book is that it's a standalone novella. I really enjoyed reading about Bea and Roran. We also get a real feel of what his world is like even though there aren't many additional characters outside the FMC and MMC. It's a great, quick read with the perfect amount of steam along the way.
I like that Bea knew what she wanted and was not scared to make sure to get what she wanted, No shame or qualms about it. Roran, at first I did not like him, but he grew on me more and more throughout the book and now that I finished the book I can see why he acted the way that he did. I loved that this novella was short and had a pretty good plot to it. I can say that I will have to add those authors to my list to follow and read whatever they have out now, or to come.
Loved this one so much! I’m already a huge fan of R.K. Pierce and her monster romances and this one did not disappoint! I love how the cover really does match the description of the monster in this book! The spice was phenomenal and I loved the story. Mates are one of my favorites to read. Highly recommend
Bea is a witch who is struggling with a long string of bad dates... One day, she opens her dead mother's grimoire and performs a spell intended to conjure a sex demon. Instead of a demon though, appears Roran, a monster, very unhappy at having being summoned. Suddenly, they are transported to Roran's world. They are now bonded, and in danger. Will they survive all the dangers of this cruel world? Will they nurture their bond? Read to find out!
This monster romance novella is great! It's short, but still satisfying. You get attached to Bea and Roran, and root for them! I recommend this book to anyone who wants a good monster novella! You won't regret it!

What does a girl gotta do to get some lovin’ around here? And who, by the way wouldn’t want some “double-hung demon daddy” while we’re at it? Aim for the stars, or in this case your mothers old grimoire, and find out what happens when you mix insatiable appetite with spells in this fun story.
With the right amount of heat for the amount of story we have, this tale focuses on two star crossed lovers, from different worlds, who create a bond by accident and must answer the question of “crud, what do we do now?” Fun, light hearted, with a HEA, this is one I throughly enjoyed and will happily read again down the road.
