Romans is more than a collection of proof texts for Reformed theology. It is an exposition of God's plan to take back the world. In this new commentary, Douglas Wilson tackles Paul's meaty letter passage by passage, explaining Paul's central Jesus’s death and resurrection have transformed the world. God has brought an end to the old covenant and ushered in a new covenant, joining Jews and Gentiles in one new people. And if Jesus is Lord, then Caesar is not, and thus the Gospel requires faithful Christians to defy tyrants when they usurp Jesus’s place.
If Romans hasn't seemed so before, then certainly by the end of this commentary it will appear to you as it did to Protestant theologian Frédéric Godet--as "the cathedral of Christian faith."
Really enjoyed this. I thought Doug did a wonderful job commenting on St. Paul’s magnum opus. It’s not your average technical commentary, it has more of a pastoral feel to it, which I very much appreciated!
Doug Wilson once again has always something worth saying and he brings that to to the book of Romans, we all know the book quite well if you have been a Christina any length of time yet Wilson still brings out these glorious truths in a fresh way.
Wilson does a wonderful job boiling Romans for regular folk like myself without lowering the book from 100 proof pure gospel grace. I will have to read and reference again next time I visit Romans.
