✯ 𝟏.𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬

I had more chemistry with my wall than the characters did here because staring at the wall was more fascinating than finishing this book. This book simply exalted the cheating theme. Given the incredibly narrow plotline and how trashy the characters were, I'm astonished that this book got an average rating of 4.11 stars.

Speaking of the trashy characters,

𝗥𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 is one of the most ridiculous fmc's I've encountered. She literally cheated on her boyfriend of one year by having sex with our mmc and played the victim card. The author tried really hard to make the said 'boyfriend' a criminal in order to justify cheating but failed miserably considering the fmc wasn't even aware he was a criminal when she cheated on him.

She literally made everything about herself. Literally. Everything. She was 22 yet she acted like a foolish 12-year-old with no sense of humour, often getting herself into problems as a result of her illogical decisions. I understand she was scarred, but that didn't give her the right to make everything about herself and play the victim card when her irrational decisions caught up to her and backfired. I couldn't care less about her inner monologue, which took up 50% of the book.

𝗞𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝘆𝗿𝗻𝗲 is supposed to be an Irish mobster but the mafia part over here was non-existent. That side was never shown. Rather he acted like an immature teenager who couldn't keep it in his pants and went right out there to have sex with a woman who's already in a relationship and continually encouraged her to break up with her boyfriend. His exact words were

“𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴, 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘬’𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴.”

Morals left the chat. Neither the fmc had any nor did the mmc. Perfect for each other.

I really don't mind any trope but cheating is where I draw the line. And the fact that the main characters were acting like 12 year olds wasn't helping either. This book's limited narrative and poor execution made it absolutely awful.

Obsessed with this series!

Keir and Rowan’s story completely blew my mind. The emotional punch it dealt with me was unexpected.
Both of them came across as mysterious and I loved that as the story started unfolding, their characters did too.

Connected from the initial meeting itself, Big bad wolf Keir was a goner. I enjoyed that he was all like cold and ‘I don’t care for anyone other than my family’ but the moment Rowan was in danger, he comes running. Meanwhile Rowan was so damn brave and feisty. They had scorching hot chemistry and were so hot together.
I also loved how they talked out their problems and pains with each other.

I enjoyed the suspense too. There were so many heart rate increasing moments. The ending was so cute.

I highly recommend this series.

P.s heroine was in a ‘mild’ relationship when they meet and kiss initially but it didn’t bother me.

—he is soft only for her.
—found fam, age-gap, hero obsessed, forced proximity, mafia romance.

I received an advance review copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

this book was such a disappointment?
I fount nothing of the quiet, calm, controlled and brooding Keir of the first book, honestly tho i don't even know who the MMC is at this point.
Rowan, baby, I thought you were a little weird at the beginning but damn, you went full cuckoo halfway trough the book and stayed like this lmao, this girl talks with her dead twin not like "I wonder what my dead twin would do if she were in my shoes right now" but with an actual dialogue and not very private as in she talks talks.
GURL I'd sent you straight to the psych ward.

so, I'm sad 😔 the only fun and interesting character was the villain(?) this russian guy Damyon with a scar on his face. I hope to see him again at this point.

I am so obsessed with the Byrne Brothers series by Jill Ramsower it isn't even funny. After reading Silent Vows I was so ready for Corrupted Union . I absolutely adore Keir and and could not get enough of him and Rowan. This story was sexy, full of deliciously banter and so addicting!

Overall I loved this story! Keir and Rowan were a great couple. He brought out the real person she was inside instead of the front she portrayed to the world. Likewise, she was the only person to make the unshakable Keir lose control. I loved Keir's possessive and protective personality and his connection with Rowan. This story was sexy and emotional and now I can't wait for Tor's story! P.S. is it wrong that I also want Damyon's story!? 4 stars! ~Ratula

“What have you done?”“I did what I had to do to keep you safe.”

This book was addictive and grabbed my attention since the very first chapter. Fast paced, with some amount of mystery and a marriage of convenience between two people who come from really different worlds, Rowan & Keir were a delight! Rowan had a strong character. She was determined, confident and strong. Keir was a mystery though, wish something about his past was revealed but still his character had a strong presence. Overall, the book kept me entertained, it was a quick and easy read.

I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review

DNF @ 40%

Look, I tried, but the chemistry? Nonexistent. Why they suddenly feel things they never had before when they're around each other is so beyond me. Like, I really don't get it. What? Why? When? Where? How? Did I miss something? Because it was really unbelievable. 😶

Then they have long freaking inner monologues in their own POVs. Why can't they speak their thoughts loudly when most of them were really sound? I don't understand the need to overanalyze the events that happened when they can't make up a resolution about it. It sure sounds like a waste of time and energy. They should've been bouncing ideas and not doing it inside their tumultuous heads. 🤦‍♀️

And to make matters worse, the FMC is still in a relationship atp. She didn't want to end things with her boyfriend because she wanted to please her dad. So she wouldn't break things off with the OM but will fool around with the MMC? And will seek him out just to "feel alive"? That won't do it. Cheaters don't have a place in my fictional romance, and this girl is the epitome of it. 😤

Maybe this'll get better or maybe not, either way I'm done with this book. I don't think this series is for me. But who knows, I might give the remaining books a try.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: forced marriage
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Mafia perfection from beginning to end! Rowan is the unflappable daughter of the governor who gets into a bit of hot water that could prove super dangerous. Keir is an Irish mobster who plans on using Rowan and her troubles to get in with the governor, but never plans on falling for the controlled girl with the sad eyes. Corrupted Union is the second book in the Byrne Brothers series by Jill Ramsower. It is a standalone, but best enjoyed when read in series order.

Corrupted Union was a solid 5 star read for me - I absolutely loved it! It was definitely a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride. Rowan has a lot of trauma she hasn't worked through and it's heart breaking at times. I absolutely love the "steal her from the other man (OM)" trope and this one certainly delivers. I won't ruin what happens, but Keir definitely was getting the girl whether she wanted it or not, lol. Well written with a great storyline and a touch of suspense thrown in. Definitely a "mafia lite" type of read and it totally hit the spot. Highly recommend and I cannot wait until the next book comes out!

This may appear to be a case of mismatched people, or an advantage taken by one, but I assure it isn’t. Oh, no. I mean, fine. Yeah. An advantage is taken. But not the way you’d think. Keir and Rowan have an intriguing first encounter, a completely unsettling second (for both of them), and then the third? Yeah, that one seals the deal. She’s his. And he’s not letting her go.

This is a bit gritty, a bit tinged by deep shadows, and a LOT excellent. While Keir and Rowan get to know what makes each other tick, they also have to figure out how to deal with a few dilemmas. And none of them are of the safe variety. All roads lead to danger, but it’s a question of how to deal with it and who will do the saving. Or maybe they both will. Regardless, I didn’t want to put this down because I just had to know who’s behind which betrayal and why. I also had to know how Keir and Rowan would fare, even if it was obvious that they’re perfectly matched. And I wasn’t disappointed one bit.

But now I have to wait for Tor and Stormy. I’m pretty sure there are some big secrets to be uncovered there.

I have waited for what feels like a life time for this book! I am finding that this series is a serious obsession for me! Keir and Rowan’s story was much more than I anticipated!

Rowan is a straight kick butt heroine! I have to start this off with talking about my girl crush for her because she does toe to toe with the devil and doesn’t bat an eye! Her strength my goodness is just beautiful! Even at her weakest point she is amazing because she fights! Keir though, surprises me at every turn while also being the strong, broody alpha that he is! The way he held Rowan up and didn’t give up…..total swoon!

The twists in this story are what got me chocked up and surprised me! Jill definitely packed an emotional punch while keeping on edge with action and thrills! A definite must read!

She’d won my heart with the purity of hers. For me, she existed in a place without rules or reason because without her, nothing else mattered.

Keir and Rowan delivered an unexpectedly magnificent story! This was such a fresh take on the mafia/crime world. In a sorrowful world, Keir’s and Rowan’s souls collided in their own unique way, as they were always meant to be, only to manifest an earth-shattering turn of events that glued me to the pages of the book.

Every twist and turn, every discovery along with that delicious suspense wouldn’t let me escape until I reached that very last word. The bonus epilogue was the cherry on top.

I really enjoyed the plot but what conquered the book was the mcs. Their connection was unique. It wasn’t based as much on lust, as it occurs with most mafia romances, although lust was certainly there. There was something different, a sizzling chemistry of two broken souls that their remaining shards fit seamlessly with each other.

When Keir’s stare returned to mine, he allowed me to see beyond his mask to the merciless vengeance beneath— a blond-haired, blue-eyed archangel prepared to inflict God’s wrath.

Mafia romances are usually centered around the mmc. Keir gave Rowan the stage. She was his and the plot’s main focus and she was intriguing enough to keep the interest throughout the book. I struggled a bit with Ro’s inner monologues at the beginning but I learned to like them and in the end, I fully loved them.

Keir was amazing, loyal, and smart. He shined through Rowan without taking the spotlight from her. He was addictively grumpy but also hot and lethal af! Which means…boyfriend material!

The Byrne Brothers series just keeps getting better and better! This author never fails to bring us a story that packs a punch and gets you all in your feelings. Corrupted Union is Keir and Roman's story and it does just that. It's a very well written, emotional, fantastic chemistry and excellent characters. Keir comes on as cold and distant (except where Rowans concerned) and Rowan is an absolutely phenomenally fierce female. She pulls no punches and takes no crap from ANYBODY. I love this character! This story carries us on quite an adventure and keeps you glued to the pages in anticipation of what's to come. Well done Ms. Ramsower!

It’s almost been a year since I read the first book in the series but I remember it being mid at best. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Rowan discovers something shady is going on in her boyfriends powerful dads mansion. She’s told to leave it alone, it’s dangerous. Rowan of course does not listen and ends up the target of a very dangerous man. Keir is there to do what needs to be done to keep her safe, whether she likes it or not.

Rowan & Keir:
Protective H and a determined h. Both are control freaks, problem is neither have any control around the other. ”If you don’t feel anything, nothing will hurt you” mentality. Rowan is composed on the outside but a mess on the inside.

”I should not care, she’s not my problem”
*runs in her direction to keep her safe*

Keir is supportive, possessive and so caring. He’s so sweet with Rowan, helps her digest her guilt ridden past and is totally fine with her slightly ”crazy” mind. He falls first.

”My bed is your bed. I wake alone, and I will not be happy. Understood?”

Rowan lives for pleasing her parents. School degree, future, image and boyfriend. Her parents aren’t the best but they’re not bad. They’ve made mistakes but loves Rowan deeply and only wants the best for her. (You might not like them anyway because they’ve made MISTAKES.)

My choices weren’t my own. My choices impacted other people, and I couldn’t forget that. The trauma and guilt she carried was so sad. Her carefree childhood disappeared when she was six years old.

Great plot and plot twist. Not much smut but well done.

“Keir!” she gasped. “We’re in a cemetery.” Undermining her objection, she tilted her hips to give me better access. Two fingers found their way deep inside her. “They’re dead. They’ll be grateful for any action at all.” I belive that when you die, that’s it. The End. But I still found this extremely distasteful. Idk it might just be a me problem.

At the end of Savage Vow, I was desperately waiting for who was in Keir’s arms. This series has become a serious obsession for me. Keir and Rowan's story exceeded all my expectations.

Rowan is simply a true kick-butt heroine. She is both strong and unguarded. She fearlessly faces off with the devil himself, and her unwavering strength is truly inspiring. Even at her lowest point, she never gives up the fight.

Keir is a complete alphahole but in the best way possible. His brooding demeanor and touch her and die vibes are everything I love in a protective hero. The way he supports Rowan and never gives up on her is simply swoon-worthy. His understanding and connection to Rowen is what makes romance so amazing.

So much unexpected in this story. I was engaged from the moment it started, seriously she tried to hold him at knife point. The chemistry between these two is electrifying. The unexpected plot twists that brought me to tears and kept me on the edge of my seat. Jill's ability to combine heart-wrenching emotion with action and thrills is truly masterful. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a must-read story.

A great suspenseful read! This book follows Keir Byrne (Conner’s cousin) and Keir makes his own rules and no apologies for it. The story is well detailed and paints such a story, it’s hard to forget it’s just a story. I loved the characters and the ride Corrupted Union takes, and how the story is packed with steam, betrayal and hot Irish men. Hello hotness!

This follows Rowan and Keir. She is the daughter of the governor and after visiting her boyfriend may have uncovered a family secret that could potentially get her in some hot water. But after a tattooed Irish mafia man named Keir shows up at her house one night to see the governor, she seeks him out help to uncover the secrets. Rowan on the outside may seem tough but is battling some past grief and loss.

I enjoyed this forced marriage read and hope to pick more up in the future. I enjoyed the MMC Keir in this as he was caring towards Rowan due to her mental state. She has been struggling and holding it in but Keir managed to open her like a book. Rowan for me was a great character too but made some silly choices. I wish her parents were more supportive of her as a lot of weight could have been lifted off her shoulders if she knew the truth ages ago.

Overall it was a great read on my Kindle and listen if you want to pick up the Audiobook. I will say I do prefer book one's characters but I’m very excited for the next book if it’s Torin because of what he did at the end of this book I’m on my knees.

Same as the first book in the series - good writing, interesting enough story...

But..

I failed to connect with their relationship. Also, I have preferred the H in this story whilst h didn't really work for me..Nor did she fit him, imo 😬

Copy received from The Next Step PR. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.

4.5 stars.

I liked this one even more than the first. Once I started, this was an easy book to get into. I was instantly pulled into it from chapter one when Rowan and Keir met under the most interesting circumstances. I began appreciating Rowan’s character and her determination to get to the bottom of the truth after discovering something in her boyfriend’s house that she shouldn’t have. When informing her father of it, who didn’t want to believe her, she searched out Keir to get his help on this.

The chemistry between the characters is instant. I realllllly liked Keir’s character, even more than Connor from book 1. His drive for his own truths is great. His easy relationship/friendship/protectiveness that blooms from just being around Rowan.

Easy book to get into and I look forward to book 3. The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars is because while the characters’ chemistry was nearly instant, I felt it actually faded away over the course of the book, particularly toward the end. Almost like the book needed to be longer and more paced.

Corrupted Union is another five star read in the Byrne Brothers series! Keir and Rowan kept me on my toes from beginning to end. I love their chemistry and passion. Though I mostly knew where it was going–I wasn’t much surprised by the plot twists–it’s the journey I enjoyed.

While Keir learns who the girl who’s intriguing him is, we do to. Somewhat emotionally stunted, pragmatic, Rowan is a mystery hiding secrets. Though until then, the most important thing in his life was his family, this younger girl who’s seeking his help suddenly earns a place in his mind. On the other hand, Rowan is forced to deviate from her plans when she meets the attractive mobster. He doesn’t hide much, and is even brutally honest about what he wants. They’re like bulldozers in each other’s life.

We see a bit of how they are before they meet, so witnessing the changes in them while they fall for each other was thrilling. And terribly sexy. There was so much chemistry here!

There was some mafia style plot too, with betrayal and illegal deals and violence. We got a hint at something not quite right in the Byrne family in the first book in the series, and this part of the story slowly unravels until the big revelation which, if not completely surprising, was done well enough that you can’t help but feel a pang in your heart. I also loved how the author wove those threads with the mystery Rowan had discovered.

Another good element was the fact that no character was black or white. They’re all nuances of grey. While not innocent in any way, the Irish mobsters show their good side–by helping Rowan, but also by the love they have for their family. If Rowan’s parents aren’t bad guys at all, they still make mistakes that have consequences. Even the real villains in the story aren’t that black, mostly because they obviously suffer from mental problems.

I can’t wait for the next installment!

The first thing to say is that I love this book.
Keir and Rowan are amazing, I enjoyed the story, the plot is gripping and the chemistry between them is mind-blowing since the start of the book. Jill has written the book beautifully and I simply adore this series. In each book, each character brings life to the story and their Cover matches the personality of the characters deeply.

The books have a different aura to them but the one thing that stays the same is the possessive love MMC feel towards their better half and that’s too hot to handle. The spark between Keir and Rowan is undeniable and the connection is instant, it was so sweet to see them develop their feelings in slow motion. The situation they were in was not at all ideal but in the end, Love Conquers all.

Rowan is the sweetest and fiercest female, she’s opinionated and very intelligent. I feel for her past where she lost so much happiness. The years were not easy for her and seeing her heal in the presence of Keir, just makes my day. Whereas Keir is handsome, smart, and lovable. He has all the qualities to make any reader fall in love with him. The writing is flawless to me.

This book was exactly what I needed!

This is a Mafia, Irish Mob, Dark romance with age gap and forced marriage! Check trigger warnings! But I think this book is an excellent introduction to this genre and it was a truly amazing read.

This book had spice, plot twists, secrets, betrayal and had me on crying, laughing and on the edge of my seat. There was so much going on through out the book, but it all came together in such a cohesive, beautifully written story.
