The author provides background information on the history of magic and fire. She states that fire itself is a symbol and a device, and is a doorway into a deeper connection with pure consciousness. She states that the candle only help us to focus our intention, and the ritual helps us attune our emotions. Therefore, candle magic is a way to tune our vibrational frequencies so that we attract what we really want and avoid what’s harmful, and that the more we tune our bodies, hearts, and minds along a particular frequency, the more likely we are to attract resonance from the outside world.
Included in this book are the name of some of the goddesses of fire, such as: Caia Caecilia, who was the Roman goddess of fire, Fuji, the ancient Japanese goddess of fire, who was revered for her strength and majestic, radiant appearance, Freyja, who is a well-known Nordic fire goddess known for safeguarding love, beauty, wealth, magic, and even fertility, Chantico, the Aztec goddess of fire, Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess, Agni, the Hindu fire god, and there are many, many more, both male and female that are not mentioned in this book.
The author discusses the various candle types, size, shape, smell, color, and how to make your own candles. She states that there are special times of the year when the seasons, the Moon, and the planets align, and that she reserve those days and nights for special spells and intentions—ones that mean a lot to her. However, she acknowledges that sometimes a spell or an intention can't wait for the perfect day, so she does it on the best time available.
The day of the week also plays a role: 1. Sunday is a celebration of Sun energy. 2. Monday is the day of the Moon. 3. Tuesday is named after the Norse god Tyr. 4. Wednesday is named after Woden. 5. Thursday is associated with the planet Jupiter. 6. Friday goes with the planet Venus. 7. Saturday is named after the god Saturn. The above list of days of the week are discussed in further details. The author also discusses the four elements—Fire, Air, Earth, and Water, because they also have a place in candle magic.
As always, I enjoy reading and learning from authors spells and recipes, and the author provides quite a few. I also found her section on reading your candle very helpful.
The author states that through the ritual of candle magic, we’re letting the Universe know what we want, and that the source of magic is available to us through introspection and self-knowledge, not necessarily through the outward ritual, which is really just a device to get us to the source.
She states that the power is within us, not outside us, and that it is the Magic, which is the bridge between our inner world and the world outside and we have to honor both.
Very informative and well written book. Highly recommend it
This is the most comprehensive book on Candle Magic I have read in a very long time. Isadora Bloom covers every piece of candle magic, including dressing your candle (choosing the proper color first) based on your intentions or purpose, including use herbs and oils, inscriptions, crystals in a manner that is easy to understand and follow. She also incorporates her personal feelings and process, even talking about her sanctuary and how she has it laid out, the energy, her crystals, etc. I believe that it is important to be comfortable within your space when performing any kind of magic to ensure the area is cleansed and you are starting with a clean slate. Bloom covers the best days, times, cycles of the moon, alignment of the planets, and seasons to perform spells as well as the four elements. She also touches on numerology, including the meanings of numbers which can help strengthen the purpose of your spell. This is a high level view of what you can expect which is why I have said that, in my opinion, this is one of the most well-written and comprehensive beginners guides on candle magic I have read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
What I like about “Candle Magic”? Everything, this is a manifestation a creation that comes from Isadora Bloom imagination. What can be better that teach with your experience?. I am not going to lie, I am not a fan of the pentagram, she is using it to protect her precious dream. On the other hand, I appreciate that every chapter comes with paragraphs explaining the origin of candles in different cultures or religions, and how they are connected to different rituals of today. Do you know why we put candles on our cake to sing Happy Birthday? How the light of a candle gives a way to wonderful discoverings in history like electricity. The meaning of fire. Another curious thing is that you can personalize your experiences, learn about smells, colors, stones and other components of the ritual making it more enjoyable. The purpose of this book is to help you find yourself within the magic a candle.
I was surprised just how much this book covers not just about candles, but almost anything to do candles. I loved the history, how to make candles, the meaning of each day, the numerology and the practical application of candle magic. This book covers candles from many different points and is just a wonderful read. The book is easy to read and understand and heartfelt.
I'd just read a book about introductory magic/recipes for beginners, so I figured a book about candles was a good choice to move onto. This too is an AWESOME intro for beginners (also, it's formatted beautifully, and I'm a sucker for beautiful books). With tips, tricks, and easy to follow instructions, I blew through this book (And I gotta say, I think I'm getting into the whole witchcraft, magic thing!)
If this is the type of thing you’re into, this is a pretty comprehensive guide. For those attempting candle magic, this breaks everything down and easy to follow format for beginners. Some of it gets a little bit overly complicated… Like, maybe for intermediate, but overall it’s a great starter guide.
This is a well researched book and you do not need to believe in magic to enjoy this book. It gives you tips to create ritual to increase energy and focus and help give you a slow quiet moment. Recommended!
