A vampire comedy with heart

Hannah and her boyfriend are in an open relationship, until one night Hannah indulges in pleasures with Morana and her life is changed forever. Unsure what is happening to her, Hannah’s path crosses with Araceli and together they try to support Hannah through the experience, so she can keep her soul.

Short and sweet story with a quirky edge and fast paced story about attraction and passion. The journey Hannah found herself on as she came to terms with her new status as a vampire was both exciting and scary. Losing her soul would further change things, and Araceli was desperate for Hannah not to end up like Morana, but she had a challenge on her hands.

With a cast of eclectic characters, an adventure ensued that explored desire, passion, wants and needs, as well as emotional challenges of Hannah realising all she knew was changed and resisting Morana was harder than she expected. Surrounded by temptation and developing more of a relationship with Araceli, Hannah really is at the beginning of a new life, which although abnormal really suited the compulsive personality she had for a need to keep things exciting and different.

A great story, very colourful given the darker nature, and a fun read.

Hannah loves her boyfriend and being in an open relationship but one bored afternoon on a dating app leads her to swiping right on Morana, an alluring and mysterious woman. After a sensual and intimate night together Hannah wakes up with a sore neck and a newfound bloodlust. She barely avoids killing her boyfriend and while escaping realizes she has no idea where to go next, or who to trust.

To Hannah’s luck, she eventually finds herself in the company of Araceli, who survives by drinking off a consenting human. She tells Hannah that once a vampire takes a life, they lose their soul as her own mother had. As Hannah survives off blood bags that barely keep her satiated, she and Araceli move from place to place, living in squalor. However, as her hunger for fresh blood grows so does the connection she has with her maker, Morana. Can Hannah keep herself from losing control and killing a human? Or will Morana’s pull be too much for her? All the gore and mystery in, Allure.

I love sapphic vampire books and am honored to add this gem to my collection. It was short but sweet. The author managed to pack an entire vampiric love story into less than 110 pages. Although I wish it was longer only so I could get more juicy details of Hannah’s relationships and adventures. The characters were genuine and well-rounded despite the length, which was a huge surprise. The love triangle/square was unique and created an interesting dynamic. Also, I enjoyed the polyamory rep and diverse identities featured which is very in line with vampiric vibes. The plot was a little lackluster but I think the characters shine so it balances out. My only critique is the writing was slightly juvenile at times and it did take me out of the story a little. However, I did enjoy the style of writing and the flow.

All in all, this sapphic vampire short is a must-read. From soulless ancient vampires to buff butch allies this book will suck you in (no pun intended). Not to mention have you possibly rooting for the villains…or are they? If you like fast-paced mysteries, queer found family, and gay bloodsuckers then you are in the right place. Happy reading!

TW: Alcohol, anxiety, assault, blood, bones, depression, emotional abuse, mental health, misogyny, and violence.

Full Review: 3.75 stars rounded up

Allure by CEON is a riveting and provocative queer vampire tale that intertwines themes of autonomy, self-discovery, and boundaries within the context of polyamory. From the very first page, readers are drawn into the tumultuous world of Hannah, a bi-disaster protagonist navigating her open relationship with Dominic and her unexpected transformation into a vampire.

The story begins with Hannah's encounter with Morana, whose brief yet alluring bio on a dating app leads to a brutal and life-altering meeting. Morana, a vampire, turns Hannah into one of her own, setting off a chain of events that forces Hannah to confront her deepest desires and fears. Hannah's struggle to resist the newfound urge to kill, particularly targeting Dominic under Morana's sinister influence, adds a thrilling and suspenseful edge to the narrative.

CEON masterfully balances the plot's dark and sensual elements, ensuring the reader is hooked without giving too much away. The introduction of Araceli, a "micro" vampire who teaches Hannah to control her bloodlust by microdosing on human blood, provides a compelling counterpoint to Morana's more hedonistic and dangerous approach. This dynamic creates an intense and captivating conflict for Hannah, torn between two paths and two lovers.

One of the standout elements of Allure is its exploration of autonomy and self-acceptance. Morana's unconditional acceptance of Hannah, regardless of her choices, contrasts sharply with Araceli's conditional love, contingent on Hannah adhering to the micro lifestyle. This dichotomy forces Hannah to make a crucial decision about who she wants to be and who she wants to be with, reflecting broader themes of identity and personal freedom.

The book excels in its representation of queer relationships and the complexities of polyamory. Hannah's relationships with Dominic, Araceli, and Morana are nuanced and vividly portrayed, highlighting the importance of communication, consent, and mutual respect. The sapphic representation is particularly noteworthy, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative.

However, the writing style, particularly the use of run-on sentences, can be a bit jarring at times and might detract from the overall reading experience for some. Additionally, the ending leaves certain elements unresolved, which may leave readers wanting more closure.

Despite these minor critiques, Allure is an enjoyable and thought-provoking read that will appeal to fans of queer literature and vampire fiction alike. CEON's ability to blend liberatory themes with a gripping plot and well-developed characters makes this book a standout in its genre. Readers looking for a quick yet impactful read will find Allure a satisfying choice.

Seems interesting crap ending..

It's not a long story but it really is no excuse for the ending. Can't say more without giving it away. Better writing than I've had in some but just not enough anything really.

It gets 0.5 stars for the fact that it’s got good art on the cover.
That’s the only appealing factor of the whole thing. I’ve read better things on Wattpad.

I LOVE sapphic vampires, and this is no exception. It’s got an intriguing premise, and some … confounding characters (do I like them, do I hate them? I do not know).
