Victoria Connelly grew up in Norfolk before attending Worcester College where she studied English Literature. After graduating, she worked her way through a number of jobs before becoming a teacher in North Yorkshire.
In 2000, she got married in a medieval castle in the Yorkshire Dales and moved to London. Five weeks after their wedding, her husband, a television news cameraman, was sent to Israel. Convinced something terrible would happen to him, she came up with the idea for a novel about a young widow who starts seeing angels on her desk at work, but was scared to write it in case she tempted fate. It was only years later that her husband admitted to having a bullet graze his shirt sleeve whilst filming in Israel!
Although having had articles and short stories published, it was only when Flights of Angels was published that Victoria was able to realise the dream of becoming a professional writer. Published as Unter deinem Stern in Germany, the novel was made into a film for television by award-winning Ziegler Film. Her second novel, The Unmasking of Elena Montella (Wenn es dich gibt), was published in 2007 and her third, Three Graces (Wohin mit der Liebe), was published in 2009. All three magical romantic comedies are now available as ebooks.
Her first novel to be published in the UK – Molly’s Millions – came out in 2009. This was followed by a trilogy about Jane Austen addicts: A Weekend with Mr Darcy, The Perfect Hero (US title: Dreaming of Mr Darcy) and Mr Darcy Forever.
The Runaway Actress was published in April 2012 and she is currently working on another romantic comedy, Wish You Were Here.
I've read several of Victoria's novels and was excited to find out that Flights of Angels was made into a film. It was an enjoyable read and the Angels each with their different personalities were charming. I didn't get into it as much as I have her other novels but it was entertaining and I'd love to see the movie.
Too much weird fantasy. Little angels appearing at her office was just too strange for me! I couldn’t get past the first few chapters. I have liked other things by this author but the ghosts and angel books just are not my type of book.
Serious, but not. Sad subject dealt with in a silly and romantic way. Some of the story was outrageous to the extreme, and I did want to pop someone up side the head. But I enjoyed it in the end.
A story about angels? Well, I wasn't sure; however I persevered and was not at all disappointed. Set in Whitby, Yorkshire this is a story about coming to terms with loss and moving on.
I loved absolutely everything about this delight-full book! The plot kept moving forward, each character was special in their own way, and I had to keep reading to make sure everyone was all right.
Departing from her normal storylines Victoria writes of the process of grief that an individual goes through and finds hope of finding love again. Well written, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is an excellent book that deals with one woman’s loss, her subsequent grief and need to move on in her own time, together with a man’s search for his own happiness and contentment, neither of which can happen until they have both grieved and recovered some equilibrium. Despite the premise, it is a funny and warm story although yes, it is also sad in places, but it is ultimately an uplifting story of finding your own way and taking the time you need to do this. I’d recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great read but sadly only those of you whose German is good enough will currently be able to read it. I have to hope this won’t always be the case. It’s simply too good a book for you not to be able to read it.
Another lovely novel by Victoria. I had an interest in this book due to its location being in Whitby. Victoria was able to transport me back there with her discription of the area. The story is a lovely story of a woman who has lost her husband within weeks of marriage and it's about her journey of grief and starting again and she couldn't do this without her closest friend and new friends she gains along the way. I did enjoy this book however, I felt it should have been a tad longer as the ending felt a little rushed and I personally would have enjoyed hearing more about the Paris trip. would recommend.
3 1/2*. Magical romantic comedy pretty much says it all. I enjoyed as quick light reads some of the other stuff Victoria Connelly wrote and this looked interesting as it was published in Germany first and then translated (assuming this was written in English first as she is English, how did that work, I'd love to know!).
The story was cute, if a bit predictable. First novel maybe? I found the typos and editing left something to be desired and distracting. But it did the trick: quick and light, with a happy ending.
Flights of Angels, Victoria Connelly's first novel published in Germany, is a wonderful story about a woman recovering from the loss of her husband and those who helped her through the time following it. Though the topic has the potential to be somewhat heavy, Victoria still manages to infuse a bit of chick lit humor and fun.
Reading the blurb I was just so dubious that I would enjoy this book, but I had it on my Kindle so I gave it a go ... and found I actually really enjoyed it and it did make me laugh. A light-hearted holiday read
I smiled the whole way through the book! So nice to read something so charming. It's a great summer read and left me thankful for the small things in life, like angels!
Such a touching vway to handle grief. And the struggle to face a future alone. Claudine gets some help from angels as she works on saying goodbye to Luke.
The thought of angels in the way they are portrayed I found somewhat difficult to comprehend. Found it less believable than a ghost in the previous book. Also didn't enjoy this one as much. The upside is that life goes on for those left behind, and this book does portray that.
Who knew that a love for old movies and books would open up the opportunity to meet someone new. Seeing fairies at work and encouraging her to be RTMO.
