The Cygnus-Orion Galactic Arm Spur is engulfed in warfare. A four way brawl with its roots a hundred million years prior, with the Lanaktallan Unified Council on one side, a strange invader from a dying universe on another, the Precursor Autonomous War Machines, strengthened by alliances, coming back into the fight, and, of course, the Terran Confederacy of Aligned Systems.
The war has spread to dozens, hundreds of different systems with no signs of stopping. Each side is grimly digging in for the long haul. The vile Atrekna, invaders from another dimension, view the entire universe as their possession as it is within their ability to quickly overwhelm an entire universe if they are not stopped early. The Precursor Autonomous War Machines have banded together to face off against the Terran Confederacy, realizing that they face a foe like no other they have other locked weapons with.
The Terran Confederacy's war machine marches forward, with sinister projects in the works that will change the fate of the entire Galactic Arm Spur.
However, the Lanaktallan launched a desperate plan a year prior and that plan is about to come to fruition.
It’s pretty raw. There were several times where it seems as if the narrative repeated itself, but I’m not sure if that was on purpose or accidental. In part because one section of the narrative has an enemy force using temporal adjustment to reframe the battle. So the time skips or the repetition could have been purposeful.
Yeah, I’m going to get the next one. If only to find out what kind of insanity is dreamed up next.
I've come to fall in love with this series. It's not about humans being perfect. Let's face it, we're not, and the humans in this series not only admit it, they use it. It works.
I got this book yesterday afternoon, and was up reading it till well past midnight. Totally worth the loss of sleep.
I absolutely love this whole series. I have read each book twice. I will read them again when book eight comes out. I can't describe the series. You just have to read it to understand. You will not regret it. Now excuse me while I go have some ice cream.
This volume swings between quiet contemplation, with philosophical insights, and ferocious combat, that continues in a disorienting slog. The juxtaposition is both jarring and very human. Recommended.
I just love this series and this one is a fine addition to it! I finished it so fast I had to double check how long it was, lol just had to read it all in one go!
I read the entire serial as it was posted on Reddit, bought all the books. Looking forward to the 12 year long Netflix/Amazon/Apple series when they pick it up.
The greatest sci-fi series of the 21st Century so far.
