Viscount Stockley and his family remain in India. The third Maruthan war is well underway under the command of Francis Hastings. A victory will give the EIC dominance over India. A renegade French Consul is supporting the Maruthans and its up to Marty and Frances Ridgley to winkle him out. Popular support for the Maruthans against the East India Company is rife and a plot emerges but is not what it seems. The squadron and young James are kept busy combating pirates in the sea of Bengal and supporting the Army in its mission to eliminate the scourge of the Pindaris. The finale comes when Sir Thomas Stanford Bingley Raffles asks for Marty's help to found a free port on Singapore Island. Ship wrecks, a major sea battle and intrigue all play a part in this adventure.
Biography I am descendent of a long line of Dorset clay miners and have chased my family tree back to the 16th century in the Isle of Purbeck. I have been a public speaker at conferences for most of my career in the Aerospace and Automotive industries and was one of the founders of a successful games company back in the 1990’s. Now in my sixties, and living in the Netherlands Antilles, I finally got to write the stories I had going around in my head for many years. Thanks to inspiration from the great sea authors like Alexander Kent, Dewey Lambdin, Patrick O’Brian and Dudley Pope I was finally able to put digit to keyboard and start writing the Dorset Boy series. I make no apologies that I write for myself. The stories emerge as I write and I am often surprised by the twists and turns that they take.
The family and fleet move to the Far East and Marty and James are busy boys fending off nationalist challenges, slaying pirates galore as they support the Empire's expansion. Mom gets into the act when she and some other ladies are held for ransom. India settles down so they are off to support Raffles as he starts the Singapore Branch.
Story line was designed towards teenagers and was slow reading. I skipped through last two thirds of the book. It was not for me and I like sailing ship stories.
The book is about India and the South eastern region during the Colonial times India was slowly being taken over by the British and Raffles was just in the process of starting in Singapore. Another great adventure in this series of stories
