Nature doesn't err; whatever it manifests is a sign of adaptation. Something of that magnitude was bound to strike this coast. My companion agreed. He has lived here for ten years and knows. There's no escaping the variability of events. No force in the universe can halt that. Like this coastline, I had to shed my former attributes. My mutation was driven not just by chance—or conditions I've proven incapable of predicting—but also by my origins. My mother and sister showed the same symptoms. That's my line, though I've managed to flee. I am alive. I will achieve consecration through my actions. That's why I'm pregnant—I want to ensure descendants, reproduce.
