Kendra Moreno is secretly a spy but when she’s not dealing in secrets and espionage, you can find her writing her latest adventure. She lives in Texas where the summer days will make you melt, and southern charm comes free with every meal. She’s a recovering Road Rager (kind of) and slowly overcoming her Star Wars addiction (nope!), and she definitely didn’t pass on her addiction to her son (she did). She has one hellhound named Mayhem who got tired of guarding the Gates of Hell and now guards her home against monsters. She’s a geek, a mother, a scuba diver, a tyrannosaurus rex, and a wordsmith who sometimes switches out her pen for a sword.

If you see Kendra on the streets, don’t worry: you can distract her with talks about Kylo Ren or Loki.

╰┈➤KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

'𝐏R𝐄Y I𝐒L𝐀N𝐃' Is the first full length dark reverse harem romance within the (Prey Island) series by new to me author Kendra Moreno

This was better than I could’ve imagined, I wanted something to get me out of a funk, something to get my heart racing, something unique to anything I’ve read before and this was exactly that.

This was like the hunger games on crack, throw in some spice and I was inhaling the pages like my life depended on it.

All that were deposited on 'Prey Island' were kidnapped, somehow they had been targeted by the 'Hounds' the lone survivor was promised a big chunk of money, but not only do they need to survive the hounds but also other abductees who want the cash prize.

It's brutal
It's dark

The hunting of innocent people on an island only the rich and powerful whisper about, where killing people off is just a sport to line their pockets even more.

But what they didn’t figure into the equation is the one girl that they claimed was weak and the first to be killed, who by all accounts was a lot tougher than they gave her credit for.

After reading this I'm definitely jumping into the next book in this series later today. 65451226-2019570151487824-6157464638251335680-n

I am here for the vibesssss. Kidnapped and dropped on a remote island, Billie is forced to survive not only from the men she’s been dropped off with, but others who are hunting her and then men. During her fight, she befriends 4 men, and work together to figure out why they were taken, by who, and how to get the fuck off the island alive. There’s sharks, there’s rich assholes, and there’s some spicy good times.

This book read like a movie. It was a constant page turner and I immediately jumped into book 2 (it’s a duet). This was a fun read. It was action packed and thrilling, and everything I love in a book. 🖤

That was such a fun, smutty action adventure. Jumanji and Hunger Games but as a reverse harem! The pacing was very fast and the romance was mostly lust, but maybe that'll change in book 2.

Anyway, I am excited to check out more by this author.

I loved, loved, loved this book! I normally don't read contemporary but being this from my main girl I had to!!!! And I got hooked from page one! Being kidnapped and thrown in a desert island to be hunted by rich men in a wild game was not on Billie's list, but neither was being prey. Finding love, strength and a new goal was even weirder, but she did, and now the stakes are in her favor. This book is RH and part of a series.

This made no sense. First of all, it was a mashup of Hunger Games and The Squid Game, and both of those were better. Secondly, if you're going to write a non-original concept/theme, you damn well have to make the rest of it original.

Instead, I found myself in a survivalist situation which somehow ended up being more about insta-lust and almost-insta-love. How did I get here?? Also, the reverse harem thing wasn't even hinted at, so color me surprised. This is not the genre I was looking for!

As for the rest of it.... It wasn't slow, but it felt like it. And then I got to the end and I was wondering what even really happened? How could it be over? I still don't fully grasp what happened, and I still don't know any of these characters or how they got to be who they are or why I should feel attached to them! At what point was it supposed to feel like a fight for survival? And when was I supposed to be feeling this powerful bond between the five of them? Cause I must have missed that. But that could also be because I was pretty sure I wasn't going to enjoy this one, before I was even halfway through.

There were a lot of weird bits, too, like how 9 out of 10 chapters ended with some sort of threat, like 'this rabbit will bite back' and 'it's their blood that will spill' and 'I might not fit in here, but I won't be Prey'. Literally, almost every chapter ending. And if you have to keep saying it, then it's not the thing. Also, it's just plain repetitive! There was a lot of other repetition, too, sometimes single words being over-used, sometimes repeated phrases, as well as redundant descriptions and dialogue. Oh, yeah, the dialogue sucked, too.

And then you have the cherry on top. I'm 99% done with the book, 110% over it, and still, there comes one last thing that I knew I would have to put in this review. Billie is thinking about the guys, and she literally contradicts her first thought with her second, and then the second with a later sentence in the same paragraph. And I'm left wondering if she is drunk.... 'It isn't like they've reached out. They don't even have a phone number to call me on, or my address to send a letter. .... If they didn't reach out, it's probably because they didn't want to be bothered.' So, let me get this right: They haven't reached out (terrible boyfriends!), but they can't reach out because they have no way to do so, but also...they probably haven't reached out because they don't want to. Right. Got it.

Last but not least, the ebook had some weird formatting. Like a word crossed out in the middle of a sentence, when it should have been erased. One of these words was only half-spelled. There was one random 'LOL' in between two sentences, neither of which were dialogue or internal thoughts. It's like when you're writing, and you mark a spot to come back to or a scene you're pretty sure you'll rewrite, only somehow, the book got published with those metaphorical X's, not the changes. Moreno? Are we missing an editor again?

Oh My Goodness, Holy Smokes…..where to even begin. This is my first official individual read of one of Kendra’s books and dannnnnnnng this freaking book was AWESOME!! It was like Survivor thrown in with lots of unaliving, secret societies, a reverse harem, intense emotional moments and a dead Plant named Keanu Leaves. I will definitely be reading more of her books after this one.

Billie, Creed, Jiro, Achilles have all been kidnapped and thrown onto an island named Prey Island where they all have to fight to survive. Billie and Creed, an ex-navy seal, team up together and slowly they find and collect Jiro, a Yakuza soldier and Achilles, a survivalist. Row is the son of a Hound member and is being initiated to be a member but it’s not what he wants so when he has a run in with Billie and her guys he decides to join them in their fight to escape.

This book was packed full of action and on the edge of your seat raw moments that kept you flipping to the next page. The connection and chemistry between Billie and her guys was instant and each of the guys brought something to their dynamic that helps them with their survival. There wasn’t much of a cliffhanger but it definitely leads us into the next book and there was a small HEA. A HEA that I’m hoping will be off the charts in the next book and maybe some feelings being expressed properly. All in all this was a freaking fantastic book and I highly recommend it!!!

"They wanted warriors and beasts on this island as their Prey. They shouldn’t be surprised when that Prey bites back."

This book was freaking awesome. When I first read the blurb I knew I had to get my hands on it...Best. Idea. Ever. I don't want to give away thing's you just need to go in blind and take this wild ride this book literally takes you on. It grabs you by the throat after each and every twist the character's face. Imagine waking up in a metal cage with several other's being dropped off on an island where there are no rules anything goes and your the prey and someone is the Hound. This is a Rh, secret society, so many twist and turns it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book as the prey become the predators.

Run, Rabbit, Run…

Predator meets Survivor in this thrilling, heart stopping game of survival.

Billie knows she’s in trouble when she finds herself kidnapped and dropped off on a remote island along with dozens of other people.

Left with weapons and an order to run, the Hounds have been released and now it’s survival of the fittest.

Billie is a force to be reckoned with. She may be hunted but she’s not prey. With the help of Jiro, Creed, Row, and Achilles, she just might make it out alive.

This story is just fantastic and a total nail biter. Each character brings something different to the game. If you’re looking for an action packed romance filled with suspense, danger, and steamy moments then Prey Island is one to read.

Spice: 0/10
Plot/prose/characters: 0/10

This is the biggest dumpster fire of a book I've read in *years*. Where do I even begin?

I guess I'll start with the spice factor: there's almost none. Which is quite disappointing considering that there's 4 MMCs. You'll have to slog through the first 40% or so of the book to even get to the first one and there's only 4 total; the rest are scattered few and far between.

You might be asking, "But you said there's 4 MMCs, how could there only be 4 spicy scenes?" Yup. The FMC sleeps with them once each and that's it. Even though the author spends FAR too long talking about how all 4 guys are cool with each other sleeping with her, and even like to watch each other... no threesomes, no trains, *nothing*. Just 4 incredibly poorly written 1-page "spicy" scenes that don't even deserve that label. (As an aside - I really don't want to have to think about what these people all smell like when they're banging after being out in the wilderness for a week 🤮)

As for the rest - the absolute AUDACITY displayed by this author when she refers to herself as a "wordsmith" in the About The Author is just... totally lacking in any sort of self-awareness whatsoever.

This book doesn't really have any actual characters, just a bunch of cardboard cutouts with zero emotion or character development. The FMC has a grand total of two personality traits: she took a self-defense class once or twice, and she's afraid of sharks. That's it. And the 4 MMCs are somehow even worse - you have a Navy SEAL, an Asian ninja (yes, really), a redneck (whose name is Achilles for some f---ing reason), and a rich dude. All walking stereotypes totally devoid of emotion or motivation or any personality at all really. Whatever you're imagining in your head after reading those descriptions is almost definitely spot-on.

Plot-wise, the total lack of originality is one-upped only by the incredibly poor execution. Nothing that happens in this book makes any sense whatsoever. Some highlights:

-On at least 4 separate occasions, our merry band of cardboard cutouts walks out of the forest and into an open field only to find men with rifles aimed right at them... and then those men just, like, walk up to them so the SEAL and the ninja can eviscerate them all hand-to-hand. Instead of, you know, SHOOTING THEM. On a murder island where everyone is supposed to be killing everyone else.

-They find an abandoned building with big bright signs saying "WARNING: RADIATION" all over them... and then they pretty much just say "that sign can't affect me cause I can't read" and then walk right in. Also nothing they do in there has any bearing on the rest of the plot whatsoever.

-The group realizes that they've all had tracking devices planted under their skin... so the MMCs cut theirs out with a knife BUT THEN THEY LEAVE HERS IN THERE. AND ACTIVE. SO THEY CAN STILL BE TRACKED. And yet, none of the bad guys ever check the tracker so it doesn't even matter anyway.

The only thing worse than slogging through this garbage was getting to the "also by this author" page and seeing like 15 books on it. Who on Earth is reading all of this garbage???

The bottom line: absolute trash all around. Don't waste your time.

✨ ARC REVIEW✨

I was fortunate enough to get an advanced readers copy of Prey Island. Billie is an exotic dancer at an exclusive gentlemen's club. One night, she is asked for a private dance and the guy is willing to pay $4K! The temptation of the money is too good for her to turn down. Next thing she knows, she is waking up in a cage on a plane and is dropped on an island with a bunch of men. It is announced that they will be hunted like prey by “the hounds” and the last one to survive will get $50 million. Billie teams up with Creed who is an ex navy seal, Jiro who is from Japan, Achilles who is a survivalist, and Row. The 5 of them are set on surviving and making the hounds feel like prey. This is a suspense, why choose romance. This book was so fun to read. I really enjoyed the short chapters and how the story was written from different characters' views throughout the story. I loved the ending which ends on a cliffhanger. I really liked how it was addressed in the story that Billie was always underestimated by the enemy and showed them how strong she really was. I do wish there was a group spicy scene and overall just more spice. Recommend if you are looking for a fast paced thrilling romance.

This book

Let me start of by stating contemporary is not really my to go to genre. But Kendra is. So everything she writes HAS to be read by me. It's an unwritten law.

This book is hands down the best contemporary book I have read this year and I loved every word. The squid game / survivor theme was amazing, the characters take you on this journey that you don't want to leave from.

It's a multiple POV book, which helps you love all these characters. So it has a HFN kind of ending but with a cliffy that will leave you demanding the next installment.

Wow! What an intense, nail biting experience. I loved the changing story line, the growing dynamics in the groups, the friendships formed and more. I couldn't get enough off this book and I can't wait for more!

Move over Katniss, there is a new Woman in town and she is going to take the island by storm! Billie! I loved watching her grow and turn into this fierce woman, not the be reckoned with. Don't let her nickname fool you, or you will not live to regret it.

4 of the other main characters, Jiro, Creed, Achilles and Row captured my heart. I loved knowing more about them. But, there are some mysteries around them as well. They each brought a unique spin to the game.

There were times that I held my breath while reading this story. I found myself cheering, sitting in the edge of my seat and feeling relieved at different parts of this story. It was like Hunger Games meets Survivor, but so much more.

I can't wait for book 2!!!

Watch out Bear Grylis!

Kendra writes such amazing stories and this is my favourite so far as I love the Predator movies and this book is kinda a take on that. Billie our FMC is the only woman taken in a group of capable ex army type guys, given weapons, clothes and warned off working together by the promise of fifty million dollars for being the last man standing.
You can definitely imagine rich entitled a**holes forming a secret society, the Hounds, doing this type of thing to alleviate the boredom of their lives just because they can get away with it. The way the story pans out is vividly described and you can imagine being there fighting for your life with four hot men to help you.
The idea of our FMC Billie writing to Bear Grylis to complain about the lack of surviving sharks in his programs had me in stitches.
Really loved this book and can’t wait to see what revenge they have planned for the hounds.

So. . .that just happened and it was glorious in every blood-drenched, sexy, crazy, wild moment of this ride that I didn't want to get off of. The premise is simple, Billie, a stripper/dancer, is kidnapped and wakes in the belly of a plane locked in cages amongst many other men. What happens next is just pure crazy sauce and it is a good time.

Billie is a likable character from the get-go, she's tenacious and her will to live and survive the ordeal happening to her is off the charts. She may be a rabbit and the ultimate prey but she'll end up becoming a vicious woman who fights back to not only save herself but the others she encounters and teams up with.

On the plane we are introduced to a Japanese man dressed in a suit and looking way to calm for the situation that is happening around them, after he pays a kindness to Billie, their is a kindredness that begins between the two of them a tiny bit of trust in the midst of chaos.

As the story progresses, you feel the heat, the jungle, the danger, and the attitude. The mega-rich off-grid secret society likes to kidnap people and hunt them for sport, but they made a mistake when they brought Billie, the only woman in a sea of men to the island to hunt. Because while Billie may be a woman, men are always underestimating the true strength that women have to endure and Billie has this in spades.

"This rabbit had teeth. And she was tired of being the Prey."

I loved this book, it's a crazy good time. Did I roll my eyes a couple of times? Yes. Was I concerned about the hygienics of the sexual activity in the novel? Yes. Did I enjoy the craziness taking place, abso-freaking-lutely. This book is pure fun, there were times I was genuinely laughing out loud, I loved Billie and I loved her men. I loved the story from beginning to end, I thought it was well written, well-paced, and that ending! I highly recommend picking up this adventurous why-choose RH novel and am so ready to dive into book two.

While Prey Island could be read as a stand-alone, I have a feeling that book two is going to rock my socks off.

"This little rabbit is going to eat the rich. This little rabbit will swallow them whole. . ."

Book Review: Prey Island by Kendra Moreno 🏝️🐰

I was lucky enough to be gifted a copy of Prey Island by the incredible Kendra Moreno herself (after sending her some Aussie goodies!), and let me just say — what a wild, brutal, and unexpectedly delicious ride this was!

From the very first page, I was hooked. Imagine Hunger Games meets Jumanji, with a heavy dose of spice and morally grey characters that you can’t help but root for. Kendra has built a world that is as terrifying as it is addictive — an island where the rich use human lives as entertainment, literally hunting them down for sport. It’s savage, primal, and totally unputdownable.

Our heroine Billie is the kind of FMC I adore — smart, resourceful, and way tougher than even she realizes. One minute she's kidnapped and caged, the next she’s thrown onto an island where survival is a deadly game. The Hounds are hunting, the rules are clear: run, fight, survive. What makes this story so unique is Billie’s evolution. She starts as prey but refuses to stay that way — this rabbit bites back, and hard.

And then we have the men. Whew. Let’s just say, if you like your romance scorching and your love interests dangerously hot (with a definite WhyChoose twist), you’re in for a treat. These guys are lethal, magnetic, and every one of them adds a new layer to Billie’s journey — physically, emotionally, and, well... spiritually.

Kendra Moreno absolutely slays in this genre mash-up. The pacing is tight, the action nonstop, and the chemistry? Off the charts. There’s blood, there’s betrayal, there’s bonding in the face of absolute chaos. If Squid Game, Predator and RH fantasy romance had a lovechild, it would be Prey Island.

This was something completely different for me and I loved it, so fast paced, page turning storyline and fabulous spice.

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ Spice: 🌶🌶

Angst: 💣💣💣💣

Cliffhanger? ✅️

Do I recommend? ✅️

Tropes: dark contemporary romance, why choose, romantic suspense

Billie never expected that when she accepted $4K for a private dance she would end up in a cage with several others. As if things couldn't get worse, she's dropped off on a remote island where she's given weapons and told to run. On Prey Island, she's become the prey as the Hounds hunt her. Billie is now being hunted along with everyone else. In order to survive, she teams up with others. Four men in particular set her body on fire with their touch as they promise to corrupt her morals. Creed, Jiro, Achilles and Row may be just as dangerous as the rich Hounds who hunt them. She may not look like she can survive the island but she's a hell of a lot stronger than she looks. This rabbit has teeth and the only way out is to play the game. After all, the last one alive gets $50 million.

This was seriously one hell of an exciting read! I've always been more of an action movie kind of girl so the plot of this book had me reading non-stop. My butt hung off the edge of my seat with each twist and the heart-racing angst. I'm so glad this will be a series. I look forward to each book. If you like action-packed stories with a hot and spicy love story, then go get your copy now! I highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

Absolutely phenomenal book! Well thought out and well written. It is like Richard Connell and Suzanne Collins had a twisted, kinky love child!
Synopsis: A group of adults are placed on a remote Marshall Island in the Pacific where they are told the last man standing will win $50 million dollars. Among those dropped on the island are Billie, a __ year old adult dancer, the only female in the group. Creed Montgomery, a 16 year Navy SEAL combat vet, and a giant of a man. With his ocean blue eyes, Tennessee accent, and rugged good looks, he brings more than survival skills to the group.
Jiro is the next to join their merry band. He is a stealth fighter, excellent with knives, and a member of the Japanese Yakuza. Kind, handsome, and industrious, he is an excellent third member of the pack. Achilles Bohr is brought into the group next. He is a wanderer, a traveler, a nomad. A survival and wilderness expert, he knows how to blend in. The last to be picked up is Woodrow Hawthorne, or Row. He is a hunter and not trusted by the group. He has to earn his place.
Together all of them must work together to survive the island, survive the other Prey, and survive the menacing group that kidnapped them and dropped them there.

This story had so many twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I devoured it in a day, and I can't wait to move on to book two!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I am in love with this book!!!! It does give me hunger game vibes with the whole hunter/prey thing going on but then add in a stripper to make it really interesting. This is what Billie had to deal with. She was minding her own business at work when the creepy guy paid waaaaaay too much money for a private dance which she could not refuse. Then she is knocked out taking up in a cage. This sets the stage for all sorts of surprises that will have you rooting for her as the story progresses making for a fabulous read. With the way this ended I cannot wait for book two. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

I loved this book! The author did a great job basically making this a movie in my brain. Most movies or books that I have read with this plot is usually, always, either a badass MMC or a woman with an assassin background, finally we were provided with an everyday woman who isn't in her 20s lol. My only complaint is I wish we could had gotten a POV from the men, but the author still did a good job with their description. I hope in the second book we get more from Jiro, I love all the men, but I LOVE the mysterious ninja man 🥰

I enjoyed the concept of this and in theory it's everything I love in a book. Why choose and survival but I found myself struggling with it a bit.
The bits that I did enjoy, I enjoyed lot but I wasn't really vibing with the fmc. Her cavalier attitude to basically being put into a hunger games situation wasn't clicking for me and I didn't feel the dynamics between the harem or feel like I got to know them. By the end, I feel like nothing had really happened.
This may just be me and I'm sure other people will love it though!

This is a big 5 stars for me. It started off right in the first chapter and kept me hooked the entire time! Billie is a total bada$$ and some of the lines in this made me laugh so hard. Which I really love when reading a dark, twisted book. I immediately had to order book 2!

My only critique are the typos throughout the book. If those were to be fixed, it would be epic! The story was so enthralling that it didn’t take me out of the story too much.

What a wild ride!

Buckle up for a literary roller coaster that I devoured faster than a midnight snack! Billie struts through this tale with the swagger of a rockstar and the attitude of a take-no-prisoners heroine. Her magnetic personality and her entourage of intriguing men had me glued to every page, while the plot careened from one adrenaline-pumping moment to the next. This book? More addictive than caffeine and more explosive than a fireworks show on steroids.

My first Moreno book, and definitely not my last!

An intense, immersive read! I enjoyed every minute of it!

Love getting to know the characters, and most definitely want MORE!

What the rich do to entertain themselves. Just whoa!

Rooting for Billie and her men! Do they survive? Do the hunters become the hunted?

Very, very good!

Even though it really pains me, because I LOOOOOVE Kendra Moreno and read soooo many books of her that I adored, I need to DNF this one.

I will not rate this book because I haven't finished. Please still give this a try, maybe it's just me.

Her retellings are TO DIE FOR. So really recommend those! Kendra Moreno is soooo immensely creative.
