Xerik has been stranded on this primitive alien planet for five rotations—long enough to lose hope of ever returning home and to accept that his life will be a solitary one.
And then a scream splits the air.
He hadn't planned for his morning to include prying an off-world female from the jaws of a volek. Neither did he plan for her to awaken instincts one of his caste isn't supposed to have.
She’s tiny, bubbly, wingless… and smells like his.
Unfortunately, she’s as fragile as spun cachi and has the survival instincts of a srret.
~
Getting abducted by aliens isn’t as bad as it’s cracked up to be. When Veronika awakens on a primitive planet, she’s just happy to be free and not the slave of a blob creature. Or worse.
And then she gets attacked by giant saber-tooth monsters.
Running for her life puts a real damper on her enthusiasm, but thankfully, seconds before being eaten alive, she’s rescued by a knight in shining… skin?

*familiar faces (Lily and her guys and Sahas!) *cute new pet *new tribes! *new Earth women! *Lok and Rork finally get a chance with someone
What was meh
*third wheel romance: a chunk of the book had the couple getting cock-blocked by the heroine's friend, Madison. Plotwise, I get that Mads needed the introduction. Romance-wise, her presence was an unwelcome dostraction *Darwin award heroine: no survival skills, no language skills, gets her legs chomped to bits on page one so she's bedridden, and she likes to cozy up to dangerous animals. Also, she is not a gold star loyalty girl like my favorite Stacy Jones heroines: I get it because she's been hurt in the past but all I want from Stacy's book is gold star puppy love and loyalty, with the heroine and hero(es) worshipping each other from the start, unlike, say, Ruby Dixon. *I liked Mads a lot better than Nika, because she is an active heroine, while Nika was very passive and not really in control of her life. Also Mads might get a Marsupilami romance and that's all I want! *Birdman romance. Pretty winged boys are not usually my thing and this one's bird people culture, though apparently technologically advanced, got very little background. I liked that better in Aria's Awakening. Aria's men also just got a rough sketch as a background, but it worked! Fallen's hero made me draw unflattering comparisons to Susan Trombley's Dead Fall series and the Fayi birdspidergiants she made up. That culture was LIT.
What I disliked
*NO SKAA! Grr. Ok, fine, she got mentioned. But we didn't see or meet her! We didn't see how she reunited with her children! We didn't see her awkward interaction with her ex-mate. Mad? I'm not mad, I'm RAWR! *too little Shevari tribal stuff. Whole entire tribes were introduced - in mere paragraphs! I want that in depth emersion :( *the other Shevari who fell hard for Lily (back in book 3 if I recall correctly) was never mentioned again. Where is he? He was so heartbroken!
I did not enjoy this installment as much as I hoped I would. But plotwise a lot happened to finally set up the HEA for the other guys I've grown to care about. I hope Skaa gets a book too because this one did her so dirty!

By the powers vested in me I declare the date of publication for this new Marsupilami Romance a religious holiday!!
The Chosen series was my first aliens-that-look-like-aliens romance and has definitely become a comfort re-read. I love the world and the potential, plus the world-building has always had amazing details. I've been excited to get my hands on Fallen to see where Ms. Jones would take the series as it shifts to other relationships and as she connects the Chosen world with the world of her other alien series, Taken. I enjoyed Fallen and it did make me intrigued even further with the possibilities for this series. Veronika (h) and Xerik (H) are both likable main characters and are instantly attracted to each other, but had to work through culture clashing, communication barriers, and challenges of living on a primitive alien world, plus a lot of changes happening to that world. There's plenty of humor throughout the book but also vulnerability and bonding. Also, adorable alien animal inclusion is pretty much a given with this world and I loved their fluffy sidekick. The story is written in third person, dual POV. No ow drama, a teensy bit of om drama because Xerik feels threatened by other males showing interest in the h, neither were virgins (H has been celibate for a long time and I don't remember h), and bc not discussed but compatibility was briefly questioned.
Veronika and a friend she made on the spaceship after being abducted, Mads, are dumped on this planet and almost immediately running for their lives from dangerous creatures. Veronika gets badly hurt, but that's how they meet Xerik, when he rescues them. He's a birdman alien previously dumped on the planet and he works on healing and then caring for Veronika. I loved the hurt/comfort part of the story and the close proximity. Xerik is also very protective over Veronika from the start and such a sweetheart, while still also being grumpy and intense. Both of them have some hang-ups because of their pasts, but are open to each other too. Mads was a funny foil to Veronika since Veronika is more optimistic and Mads is more pessimistic. Mads is also just one of the side characters in the book that was able to shine. These two do separate and Veronika and Xerik continue to learn about each other while their feelings grow. I will say, I appreciated that language barrier came down somewhat quickly, but at the same time, I questioned how they were able to communicate to the point they could in the time they had.
In addition to the relationship-building, these two are also drawn into what's happening with the natives of the planet and a possible return of the slavers (which actually turns out to be a spaceship connected to the Taken series that's come from another planet). This part of the plot line and connecting the two series didn't go as smoothly for me. It's a lot to cover and weave together with Veronika and Xerik connecting with Lily and her guys from the first four books of this series and then introducing the people who came from the other planet, *and* introducing the other tribes of their planet who are suddenly converging in one area. All of this is why there are more possibilities for the rest of the series, but it wasn't as well-built as I'm used to world-building wise for these books, probably because there were so many moving pieces. I was also confused during my reading over the passage of time because this planet has a dangerous rainy season and when it's discussed, along with the timeline, I felt like this didn't match up right.
In the midst of all that, Veronika and Xerik start getting steamy but are also each confused/concerned about their relationship status. This is when the cultural miscommunications come more to the forefront and it lasted a bit longer than I would have liked. Steam-wise, Ms. Jones writes excellent alien/human spiciness, esp with the features her aliens rock so no complaints there. Romance-wise, these two really were so sweet together and even though it all happened quickly, their relationship left me super satisfied from a romance perspective.
There is an epilogue that's a tiny time jump and it was cute. I also liked the author note at the end that expanded a bit on the epilogue and reflected on connecting her two series and expectations for this series going forward. There's no question for me that I'll be picking up future books in the series.
I was so excited to read this that I reactivated my KU subscription. I was hoping we’d get a book for the birdman, so I was pleased that we got that. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the story following a new couple rather than him joining Lily’s harem, but to be fair, Lily already has 5 mates… girl has her hands full. And everything else full too, if you get what I mean. Yeah, I went there. 🤷🏻♀️
Anyway, Xerik was an interesting character—an intelligent male from a matriarchal society, who had been captured and dumped on the planet by the same aliens who left Lily from the previous books, Veronika, and another female (Mads). He was very protective of Veronika from the beginning and despite his grumpy demeanor, was a bit of a cinnamon roll.
I felt like both characters suffered some self-esteem issues and worried the other wouldn’t accept them and want to be with them. Veronika worried about her weight a little too much, Xerik felt inadequate because of past mistakes he’d made on his home world and because there were other males he worried would be more appealing to Veronika. Because communication between them was an obvious problem, misunderstandings and/or noncommunication that would be frustrating in a contemporary setting made sense.
The previous books are RH but Xerik is J/P and does not want to share Veronika at all. If you aren’t into RH, I do think you could read this one as a standalone and still enjoy it, though you’d be missing a lot of the worldbuilding that came before.
This book wasn’t without some issues, so it didn’t cross into 5-star territory for me, but I enjoyed it quite a bit and really liked that the author set things up in this book so that the series can continue with other characters. I will definitely be reading them!❤️
I loved the MC Xerik and the alien smut, but I had a lot of issues as well:
1. the excessive world info-dumping that were basically spoilers for the author's spin-off series 2. how Xerik learned how to communicate in English so quickly 3. the lack of detail about Xerik's home society and native behavior 4. the lack of detail about reunion 5. the FMC Veronika's extra-TSTL behavior 6. Veronika's best friend Madison's 3rd wheel behavior that got in the way of the main romance 7. the still open-ended questions about the behind-the-scenes villains
in addition to other unanswered plot holes like where Lexi really went, the backstory behind the other tribes on the planet, and why the floods arrived earlier. I understand the author wanted to leave room to write more stories in the universe, but it was a little unsatisfying to not get answers to many of the new story lines without reading additional books. ----- Ratings - completed series: #1 Chosen: ★★★★☆ #2 Tribe: Outsider: ★★★★☆ #3 Tribe: Protector: ★★★★☆ #4 Native: ★★★★☆
I Give this Book a 4-4.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as High 4.
No Spoilers!
HEA(?): HEA! And it’s so good!!! Relationship Type: MF Heat: 4/5 Romance: 4-4.5/5 Pacing: Definitely a Faster Pace than the usual slow mid ones, that I’ve come to love. It’s definitely clear that despite reading the (Lily’s) Chosen series, I have to read the others just to get an idea of who is who for past characters. Other than that the pacing was much better near the last half and man… I can’t wait for more characters to get books! This is one of my favorites series of sure! So Good!! Drama: 3.5-4/5 Suspense: 3.5/5 Dark(?): No *Also the Humor within this Book Sooo Freaking Good!
*Due to the Many Various type of Language Barriers I will put them in One of Three Categories. Language Barrier(?): Yes.
****The Language Glossary & Glossary for this world (which is in the front! 😃), I’m so thankful for that!
Language Barrier - Temporary, Semi or Permanent(?): Semi.
*Permanent is where >both main characters/significant others< speak their own languages but cannot understand each other so they have to rely on using either various basic words, sounds or gestures to get a point across, and there is no mechanical solution or it’s unable to be used. *Semi Permanent is where one or both teach each other their language and can at some point speak near fluent and may or may not have a mechanical solution at some point, but in the end can go without mechanical help but the option is there. *Temporary is where there IS a mechanical solution to fix the language barriers between significant others permanently. No future issues.
I absolutely loved this book but more so because we are reunited with some previous characters. Our story begins with Veronika ( Nika) and Madison waking up not on a space ship. Feeling groggy and disoriented Nika, who has poor vision is in desperate need of her glasses when she sees an animal, unfortunately for her not a friendly one. Her scream alerts our hero Xerik. Despite the language barrier between the two they communicate in more ways than one. This is a slow burn 🔥 with the right amount of sass from Veronika. Together they make sure a beautiful couple 💑 . I can't wait to read the next one....keep them coming!
Nika and Mads were dropped on this very interesting new world. Well. It was interesting at first, then these giant white wolf things started chasing them. When one bit Nika's leg and started dragging her off it became less interesting and very scary instead. Then a giant bird guy swoops her up, and Mads, and takes them back to his cave.
Spoilers ahead. Oh, I've been waiting for Ms Jones to come back to this world. I liked the Aria and Victoria series, too. But this is the one where I fell in love with her as a writer. The world description, the peoples she created, it was so in-depth. And now these worlds are colliding and expanding. Yay! And, a returned tribesmate?? Bring it! Tell me Shaa gets a story. Please. I know I'll cry over her lost mates but her new one, seeing her kids, and maybe finding some new among this larger conjoined tribe...oh please. But back to Nika, lol, she's wary from past relationships and uncertain how to approach alien ones. But she's sweet and friendly and tries so hard. Even with her injured leg. Which brings the question, will Xerik impart his secret to the healers and help them if needed? He wasn't supposed to mention it, and to the Gs (bad fish aliens) it would have been a very bad idea. But I think Nika, not knowing it's supposed to be a secret, would slip up. Mads knows, too. And I giggled over the misunderstandings. Outside of Nika's hesitancy there were no forced misunderstandings. It was just cultures confusion. His people lose color when they mate. Her hair is dyed and confused him. And she's a little flighty (punny ha ha) so she forgets to reply to some of his statements and overtures, causing him to get grumpy. But each does a good job of not holding grudges and being sure to ask the other (even if it's a couple days later) about their emotions. I really enjoy this series and all the characters. It was wonderful to see them again.
Yes i loved this world so much and can not get enoughed of it. Xerix and Nika are just so perfect together and i am so over the moon because we finally have a baby yes a baby coming yay.
3.5⭐ In this standalone sequel to the Chosen series, sooo much happens. We meet a bunch of new humans, get reacquainted with some old ones from the Taken series, reunite hundreds of natives from different tribes, meet a new scary-ass pet, and finally...FINALLY get to learn more about Bird Man.
Did I have fun reading this? Yes!
But I will admit it was tiring watching Xerik and Veronica wade through the Big Misunderstanding. Where Lilly was quite introspective and very aware of her guys' behaviors and possible motivations, Veronica is just...oblivious. To be fair, it's thrown right out there that she IS oblivious to a lot that happens around her. But, come on. A Big Talk needed to occur between them. After all, they are two completely different species from completely different cultures. Separate mating practices will clearly be a hurdle. Assumptions on both sides occurred for way too long.
Aside from getting to see my very favorite characters again, the best part of the book was watching Xerik go from lonely/loner grouch to love sick puppy to husband. Very very sweet.
I cannot wait to see what Stacy has in store for them all.

I think this is the first time I’ve continued reading a series. Usually, I lose interest because I don’t care enough to follow another couple, no matter how interesting the universe or plot might be. But I’ve been enjoying this one.
In this book, however, the focus shifts. We don’t continue Lily’s story directly; instead, the spotlight is on the birdman who helped save Sahas. We’re introduced to I think there’s actually a series set in the same universe about . If not, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear one is in the works.
Most of my questions were answered here. For example, we finally get confirmation that . While it’s disappointing we didn’t get to witness that reunion, I was glad to see Lily telling Nika about it—it’s certainly better than nothing.
As for the next book, I haven’t read the blurb, but based on the cover I think it’s about the werewolf alien. It also seems like we’ll eventually get a book about . At this point, I’ve realized that writers in this genre rarely introduce new characters and hint at possible pairings without purpose—they almost always circle back later with a book dedicated to their story.
I really loved this book, it felt like such an adventure. I will say that this was my first book by the author and in this series- and tho the couple get a HEA I did feel like I was missing out on a few things. But there's also a glossary in the front of the book that helped a ton.
Both characters were likable and vulnerable in their own ways, it helped me empathize tho. I loved how jealous and possessive Xerik was, and that this book was m/f. I also loved Kwriket his animal friend- he was so sassy and loved to be praised which cracked me up.
I know the FMC seemed pretty useless at times, but I loved how Xerik took care of her and know that's the only way I'd survive in an alien jungle while being totally defenseless too lol.
I loved the gathering when the rain comes (tho there was a really scary moment with the fish ppl) but I really don't understand where everyone came from or how he knew them so well. Either way, it was an awesome book, I need to go back and read the others in the series to fill in my gaps in knowledge but I also loved this one just as it was. So sweet, and adventurous involving a birdman and a human, with their own insecurities to overcome.
Read whatever makes you happy! Then tell me about it lol.
I am SO happy to be back in this world! The Chosen series is one that I reread every year. This time we finally get the story of the winged man. I'm a sucker for feathers. #teamwings all the way! Xerik is one formidable protector. He rescues Nika from the jaws of a huge prehistoric bird. This story is a slow burn, as Nika has to heal from her injuries. Xerik uses a power he has which he is not supposed to use. Over all the time caring for this female he forms quite the attachment. I love these two together! Nika is such a positive force. I love the relationship she forms with his "pet" Kwriket, too. Fallen is all about relationships and we get to revisit some old friends. It's sooo good! I don't want to give away any surprises, but being spoiler-free is difficult on this one. Nika made a friend, Mads, on the slaver ship they were stuck on and Mads is with Nika in the beginning. Fallen opens up many possibilities which I CANNOT wait for Stacy to explore! This story was well worth the wait. Although it could be read alone, I highly recommend picking up the rest of the series. I had all of the winged happiness with this one! Don't miss it! 5 stars
Veronika (Nika) and her best friend Madison find themselves dropped on a primitive planet. It's all fun and games until Mads is drug off by a wolf-like creature, and Nika finds herself being saved from a predatory bird by another, even more deadly predator. Xerik has been trapped on the same planet, giving up hope of ever getting back home, and having to live a solitary life. Now that he has Nika in his possession, the solitary life may not be what he wants anymore.
I have been DYING for Stacy Jones to add another book to the Chosen series and she did not disappoint! I loved Nika and Xerik together and just how well they clicked. They're very similar and suit each other really well. I loved the additions to this universe and the new creatures that have been added. Everything was so descriptive, you could almost picture everything the author was portraying.
I didn't care for Mads. It felt like she was a constant mood killer in most of the scenes and that really detracted from the story.
While Fallen by Stacy Jones offers a classic dark fantasy romance centered around Veronika and Xerik, it leans heavily on familiar tropes without introducing many fresh or unique elements. The characters and their dynamic—Veronika as the resilient heroine drawn to the brooding, mysterious Xerik—feel like well-worn archetypes in the genre. Their romance, though intense, follows a predictable pattern of push-pull tension and miscommunication, making it feel almost formulaic at times.
The supernatural world-building, while atmospheric, also lacks newness; the settings and magical elements are familiar to anyone who has read a similar paranormal series. Jones’s writing does capture the dark, moody tone well, but it occasionally borders on overdone, with prolonged descriptions that further highlight the story’s predictable path.
In short, Fallen will likely appeal to fans looking for a straightforward, trope-filled paranormal romance but may disappoint readers hoping for a fresh twist or innovative plot points.
I was sad when I thought I'd read the last Chosen series book at the end of book 4, so I was super excited to find out the author was going to expand the series and give readers insight into other characters. She did not disappoint with Fallen! We met Xerik in an earlier book and it was great to see him get his own relationship this time around. Xerik and Veronika are such a cute couple! I enjoyed the way their relationship developed and how they worked to communicate and get to know each other and overcome misunderstandings due to the language and culture differences. As with all of the author's works, the story was engaging and well written and moved at a good pace. There's no cliffhanger, but I've got my fingers crossed for who the author will write about next.
So...need my own alien abduction please & thank you!
I am so happy to be back in this world! We have new characters but great cameos from old faves and it was just amazing.
Veronika is this happy-go-lucky kind of gal that didn't have much luck on Earth. But she's sweet, really needs glasses and has very little natural survival instincts. Xerik is a grumpy loner who is dealing with grief. Now the "cultural" misunderstandings hurt my heart in some instances but mostly had me snort laughing. The way their relationship progressed was hilarious adorable and I was so here for it. It was just a super fun read.
I really, really, really like how Stacy Jones has developed this whole world and all the interconnections. To say that I'm excited this is going to continue is a gross understatement!
Cute alien romance. It's a single hero/heroine, which was a good place for me to start as I'm less interested in reverse harems. The couple is very sweet together as they try to figure out their cultural differences. There's clear influence from the genre tropes and series that came before, so nothing new. It's like a nice dessert in a flavor you like.
My only big complaint is the dialogue between the human women, which is, at times, laughingly cliched. It's like every woman must start out by saying "girl!" Like "Girl, where you been?" "Girl, like that top." "Girl! Think it'll rain tomorrow?" Also I don't think the aliens are a males only society, but not once did any of the humans talk with a female alien, except maybe once there was a child running around, so all the exclamations of "girl!" stood out even more.
I have liked parts of this series and found plenty of great aspects, but this book is a disjointed mess. This particular book started off strong and went downhill from there. The plotline is fairly weak. The reintroduction to past characters is rushed, but not in a way which furthers the plot. The reasoning for the main characters to see past characters seems weak and not well reasoned. It is as if the author just wanted to show the reader past characters again. Also, there is no explanation as to why suddenly the main two characters can understand each other so well. This book had a bad habit of telling and not showing quite often, especially in regards to communication and building of relationships.

I was anticipating an rh and was kind of sad that this wasn’t one, but despite my expectations going in this truly was a sweet and enjoyable story. I liked Xerik and Veronica a lot , they are both such sweet characters and watching them fall in love was so heartwarming. They are both people who deserve love and they’ve found it with one another. I also loved Veronica’s friendship with Madison, and can’t wait to read the latter’s story. We get to see Lily and her men again which made me so happy. Also the sex scenes!!! The sex scenes were HOT. All in all a really good read!! I can’t wait for the rest in these series.
The chosen series has been a sci-fi why-choose reread of mine for a long time. I love Lilly and her mates. I am so excited that the series is continuing and more things have been buttoned up from the first four books even though this story focused on Xerick and Nika. I loved this too. BUT I really really really want a Lok and Rork book though 😂😂. I had given up hope that the author was going to continue this series but now that she has I can NOT wait for all my favorite side characters to also get a HEA. Also, I can’t wait to meet the new ones. So much room for possibility. So excited!!
I liked the previous books well enough, but this one had new main characters that I just didn't ever end up caring about, and ended up DNFing about 40% in.
The characters were also the issue I have with the grumpy/sunshine pairing trope. Often the "grumpy" is portrayed as less grumpy and more as insulting jerk, and beats down the sunshine character who is so sunshine-y that they're smiling through their tears and still coming back for more beating down. This grump's insulting was more internal, but I find it hard to root for them as a couple, when he's constantly thinking how he can't possibly be attracted to her because she's too stupid to live, or too fragile, or too weak or annoying.
I loved the book! Xerik was the most adorable grump and Veronika was such a goofy chatterbox. Poor Xerik lost at least twenty years of his life with how accident prone she was. Nika was a classic damsel in distress, with her shitty eyesight and low level of fitness she was too blind to see all the dangers and too clumsy/weak to get herself successfully out of them. I liked that she at least did her best to help with house, erm, cave/nest keeping. Xerik learned English fast, but not fast enough to avoid quite a few miscommunications between them ;) It was nice to see people from the earlier books and quite a few more humans on the planet.
I absolutely loved this story and being back in the Chosen world was wonderful. Nika is an absolute treat! She is a klutzy, loveable, intelligent and, as it happens, fearless woman and is a perfect match for Xerik (who, incidentally, reminds me of Hawk, a character from a very old tv show ;). The action made sense in the story and was not gratuitous or overdone. The romance between Nika and Xerik developed in a way that made sense and was so sweet. Meeting up with “old” characters who inhabit this world was the “Cherry” on a truly awesome cake. I happily and voluntarily reviewed this book.
I was so happy to see this newest installment of my favorite series. I'm so happy we got to see a bit of Lily and her mates but I wished there was more since they will always be my favorite. I also screamed a bit with the introduction of Mags with Lok and Rork. I've always wanted Lok and Rork to find someone special. I can't wait for their story!!!
Regarding Nika and her KISS, they are just so cute together. I love how obsessive he is with her. I can't wait for the next books!
We finally got the story of the bird man and it didn't disappoint. I loved both these characters and coming back to this world and getting to see previous characters. This story is just a good alien romance all around, with love laughter and problems to overcome. It does end on a perfect adorable HEA, that was everything you could ask for. There's also some story strings and characters left in a way the could get their own story. I would love to see rork and lok, maybe the pilot, there other girl at the end asking Nika questions. Very good book would recommend.
I cannot begin to express how excited I am for this series to continue. I have loved all the characters in these books and was so happy to finally see our brave, child-rescuing bird man get his happy ending! Can’t wait to see where this goes.
I love the world building in this book. The differences in the way the characters think, the work they put into overcoming their language barriers and the racial misunderstandings create a brilliant tapestry of frustration, fun and fraternizing.
Yay!! Bird man is back and got an HEA, super stoked about that but more than that, Lok and Rork are gonna get a book! Yay! I'm getting major Ruby Dixon/ice home vibes from this and loving it. I can't get enough of these long scifi alien romance series where we can check in on former favorites while getting more characters too. Can't wait for more! Definitely a top 10 favorite for me and I'm gonna be bingeing the other books she's written until the next chosen one comes out
My gooooosh, I love this world, these characters and this series. Some scenes ere so epic I wished they were available as movies. Why is it that this genre has no 5 season 20 episodes netflix series going on?!?!? So many books in this genre deserve to be made into movies. Think about all those amazing casts, the merch, the special effects, the awesome aliens on screen 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 I'm a bit afraid to read the next book as it means waiting loooooong for another one. Maybe I really need to read Arias Awakening...
I am so happy to see the chosen series continue. I love this planet and the characters. Seeing new ones meeting familiar faces. This was my first alien RH series so it holds a special place in my heart.
For anyone who listens to audible the narrators for the previous 3 books did an amazing job.
I can not wait to fall back into this series and to see where this story will go...because this place is magical.
