Save Me From The Storm

Rate this book
DROWNING IS AN EXCRUCIATING FEELING UNTIL YOU LET THE WATER IN.
It's the trying to hold your breath, trying to fight and kick and swim that tortures you the most.
But once you finally give in, once you finally breathe, finally allow the water to fill your lungs, that's when the pain stops. It's meant to be kind of peaceful.
It wasn't for me.
Because drowning is really just a metaphor for living in this world and trying to leave it is like attempting to escape hell before you even get there.
He saved me that night. Pulled me back from the edge and forced me to keep fighting with the promise he'd help me find the light in the darkness.
Little did he know that I didn't want to be saved, and fighting is the most painful thing you can make someone do.

Plot:
Avalon is struggling a lot. Dustin has known a lot of struggle. They are both fighting for their chance at a better life. (i honestly cannot write the plot without spoiling a whole lot so this will have to do lmao).

Tropes:
- Mental health rep
- Abused FMC
- Healing
- Fast paced
- Sort of insta love for the MMC
- Stranger to lovers
- Part 1 of a completed Duet
- Ends on a cliffhanger
- Spicy
- Strong FMC
- Kinda golden retriever MMC
- A cute rescue Husky

Thoughts:
I liked this book. I honestly hate books that duologies or triologies. But this premise was very interesting so I sucked it up. But if you continue to read the next books first chapters I found it completely fine to read.
So it was a heavy book for me, it made me feel things and it made me sad sometimes. But I liked the overall message of healing and growth a lot. I liked how consent is so important. Sure I disliked parts too but not enough to write about here.
The mental health rep was very accurate, I could relate to it a lot which was nice.
The romance was nice, it was quite fast paced but I loved how they have been communicating throughout everything that has happened.
There were like 5 chapters of pure spice so I loved that lol.
I knew coming in to this book it had strong ‘You saved me’ vibes, which I usually dislike, I liked how this writer handled it though.
I liked the writing style, it was a bit difficult to get trough in some areas cus the writing of the FMC and the MMC seemed a bit similair in some ways. But I could still follow the story very well.
I loved the last few chapters ;)
Oh and usually I see plot twists coming from a mile away.. I didn’t this time and I LOVED it.

I’m definitely looking forward to finish this duet.

The MC:
Ugh I love Avalon and Dustin a lot. Dustin is so sweet and loving. He has a way with words that I (and Avalon) love. Avalon has been trough so much but she keeps trying.

Overall a very enjoyable book. It was heavy tho and certainly has triggers. Preview the book on amazon to see all the trigger warnings :).

I was very intrigued by the concept and premise but I felt that the execution of these was poorly done at best. The story follows a romance between two people who save each other from suicide attempts (the story mainly follows the fmc’s mental health journey + their romance). Check the trigger warnings if you need them. I really liked the mental health representation in this book but that was about it. The characters didn’t have much personality and I didn’t really care whether or not they ended up together. This felt somewhat slow paced and I just felt relatively bored most of the time. I also kept waiting for the story to improve and really catch my attention but it didn’t. The writing also felt cringey in certain spots. The second book in this duology does intrigue me but it’s almost five hundred pages and I just don’t think I’ll enjoy it considering I didn’t really enjoy this one. This book had so much potential but kinda just let me down.

Please do check your triggers before reading this, it covers some really tough topics around mental health and abuse.

I cried! I cried happy tears, sad tears, I got angry and then my heart melted. This book had me in all the emotions, it had me turning the pages at such a rapid pace.

Avalon is going through the toughest time, ready to end it all just to stop the pain of her past and escape her ex. She’s at The Fall but the man she unknowingly saved 4 years ago turns up and pulls her from the edge.
Dustin can’t believe his eyes, it’s the girl he’s dreamed of finding when she saved him 4 years ago now he’s holding her and she looks like a broken bird, in pain. He’s determined to save her, show her there is a light at the end of the tunnel, a reason to live. He’ll do just about anything to help her.

Yes the topics of this book are really tough to read and it emotionally broke me at points but the message was so powerful I felt it hard to ignore. It really showed how the path of healing is tough, the ups and downs of the journey, the conflicting emotions and how important is to take your time around somebody who is suffering.

Avalon’s story really resonated with me to a degree in parts, I felt her pain, I understood her thoughts and I think that’s really hard for an author to give a reader someone that they can relate to almost fully.
My heart broke for Avalon but i was so happy to see her starting to view life differently.

Dustin, I love him, I love him, I love him. I wish everyone could have a person like Dustin because that man was the sweetest, kindest, it’s so hard to put into words just how wonderful Dustin is. The time he took with Avalon, all the help he got her and gave her, he was so gentle and understanding.

The plot twist towards the end I was not expecting at all, I was completely shocked and I as well am not that sorry with what happened either, he deserved everything he got.

A heartbreakingly beautiful story that was well written and will stay with me for a long time.

This was a beautifully written book, it was paced well and I loved reading the characters develop and their relationship unfold. This book does deal with some heavy topics so I would recommend checking triggers warnings, however I felt the author dealt with these topics and portrayed the characters story's and the struggles so many face really well.

This book is now one of my favourites. I loved the story and every page of it that I didn’t want to finish reading it. Always remember to look up at night for the stars…you’re not alone. Already started the next one, I know I’ll love it too. And for my dear Holly Louise (Author) thank you for writing this! ❤️
