When an enterprising young woman is attacked at a local Airbnb, she goes to Police Chief Randall Cole for help. It turns out that the woman's on the trail of lost treasure on the Forgotten Coast, right down to the treasure map where X marks the spot. When Cole starts to investigate, the attackers move to strike again.
Now, it's a race against the clock to see if Cole can find the treasure first, and if he and the girl he's protecting will survive the ordeal.
A treasure was sunk with a ship into the ocean 200 years ago. With a map with an X and GPS they were able to find the first bit of treasure with no problem on the first dive. The second dive, they found a body that had been left on the ocean floor for 10 years, not anchored, but it was still there, along with the second treasure clue. With the help of a sextant and a computer and GPS they drove their boats to the third spot which happened to be right over the sunken ship, how fortuitous. This stuff had stayed buried for 200 years, but these people were able to find it on the first shot, the first dive, no problem. Makes you wonder. I think that.chief Cole should seriously consider having his officers certified as scuba divers seeing as how these people are situated right on the Gulf and a lot of their crime seems to happen in the water. Other than these little things, I really really enjoyed this book. it’s the fourth one in the series that I’ve read and I intend to read all of the other ones. It’s easy to get hooked on this series.
