University Press returns with another short and captivating biography of one of history’s most compelling figures, Alan Rickman.
Alan Rickman was one of the most talented stage and screen actors of all time. The winner of multiple Golden Globe, Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, Tony, People’s Choice, and MTV Movie Awards, he captivated audiences around the world and across five decades. But for all his remarkable accomplishments, Rickman will always be the cunning, complex, sarcastic, Harry Potter professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Severus Snape.
How did Alan Rickman overcome the premature death of his father, emerge from West London poverty, switch careers, become an actor, wow the critics of theater and film, and inspire millions of adoring fans?
This short book tells the intensely human story of a man who changed the world in a way that no one else could.
This book may be short, but it is a wonderful reminder to just how talented Alan Rickman was. We are all better for having been able to see his talent and continue to enjoy his work even after his passing.
My sister asked me for a birthday gift idea that my nephew/godson could give me; I suggested "the Alan Rickman biography," assuming she'd know I meant "Madly, Deeply..."
I was surprised when this little thing arrived in the mail--however, I'm not complaining! It was a quick and interesting little read and I appreciate the gift. :)
These University Press books are pretty good! Short reads with a lot of details. As I am a big fan of Alan Rickman I enjoyed this. Some of the books are available right now on KU to read for free. Definitely worth your time if you have KU. He will always be someone I admire and respect. I have his diaries too, that just came out. This is actually better to read before his new book if you can. You might understand some of his thoughts and more about his career by reading this before his newly published diaries. If you have KU I highly recommend this! Well worth your time.
This was short and sweet - and I loved it. I learned a lot of new things I didn't know before, like the fact that he already had cancer during the filiming of Harry Potter and that he wanted to quit half way through but he pushed on because he wanted to finish what he started. He was such a great actor and is still one of the legends in acting.
not an awful lot of interested anecdotes in this book, I would have expected a more in depth look into his private life. I loved Alan Rickman, watched most of his films and fell in love with his voice, he's sadly missed, a wonderful actor.
