After seeing the Rosetta Stone at the British Museum, I had to know more about how the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs were cracked. The stone was discovered in 1799 and it took over 20 years for scholars to understand it and that was just the beginning.

In this account of Champillion, it covers his life, political times in France and his competitive nature, not to give credit for any other discovery but his alone.

Was an easy and engaging read.
