Dixon might not be the obvious choice for the new Hand of the Penn family, but since an enchanted string marked him as Fonzo’s replacement, everyone’s on board. Especially Yuri.
But with great power comes great responsibility. The new mayor’s brother is in a real pickle—but since he’s been blacklisted by the Spellcraft circuit, no one can Craft for him. When the man begs for help, even Dixon’s hands are tied.
Or are they?
Now that Morticia Shirque is officially part of the family, Dixon could prevail on her wisdom to find a good loophole. Unfortunately, the venerable Scrivener is working on her bucket list and won’t be able to advise him anytime soon.
Uncle Fonzo is no help either, since he’s suddenly dealing with his fair share of unwanted attention. Not from the law, strangely enough, but from every single Scrivener lady in town…and even a few not-so-single hopefuls.
As Dixon and Yuri scramble to solve the problem the “old-fashioned way,” one thing is certain: you never can tell where the power of Spellcraft will lead you.
The ABCs of Spellcraft is a series filled with bad jokes and good magic, where M/M romance meets paranormal cozy. A perky hero, a brooding love interest, and delightfully twisty-turny stories that never end up quite where you’d expect.
Author and artist Jordan Castillo Price writes paranormal sci-fi thrillers colored by her time in the Midwest, from inner city Chicago, to various cities across southern Wisconsin. She’s settled in a 1910 Cape Cod near Lake Michigan with tons of character and a plethora of bizarre spiders. Any disembodied noises, she’s decided, will be blamed on the ice maker.
Jordan is best known as the author of the PsyCop series, an unfolding tale of paranormal mystery and suspense starring Victor Bayne, a gay medium who's plagued by ghostly visitations.
Yeah I know it will have to end at some point, but a guy can wish, right? This author writes magic and it is pure joy to read! I lost count of the times I laughed out loud and wept tears of joy! Yes, it is that funny! Jordan Castillo Price is beyond talented!
This series never fails to make me laugh out loud!! It is so OTT but Yuri and Dixon are everything together. Dixon is equal parts clueless and brilliant, Yuri is stoic but has a bit of a marshmallow center especially with Dixon and his family.
The mystery was typical - just missing that which they seek as they go around to the denizens of Pinyon Bay - but very enjoyable! I love all the interactions of the handless and scrivenors.
Okay, first of all, I need to say that Morticia's bucket list is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than mine. Why I didn't though of adding 'Cause a Riot'? Fixing that ASAP *dies laughing*
That said, this book is exactly what I come to expect of this series: funny, lovely, endearing. It's a warm cup of chocolate on a grey winter afternoon, warm and perfect.
Dixon and Yuri are the kind of characters that you can't help to love. Dixon is an optimistic piece of sunshine, always ready to jump at any chance of helping someone, and Yuri... Yuri is filled with love for Dixon and he'll do whatever it's needed so he's happy.
And so we arrive at the adventure in this book, in which Dixon needs to fix a problem... without scribbling. And it's fantastic!
What can I say? This series is my comfort read of choice ♥
Another quirky Dixon & Yuri story. It was entertaining but it didn't hold my interest like the others.
QUICK THOUGHTS
• Paranormal/magic • Established couple • Quirky town • A bit of fun • Made me smile • Recurring secondary characters make an appearance • Love the MCs... Yuri & Dixon • Satisfying ending • NOT a stand-alone
Continuing the cray-cray adventures of Yuri and Dixon in their madcap community/town. The author keeps coming up with way OTT intriguing Spellcrafter traditions and business practices. Just one editing glitch where an entirely wrong POV was done in a Yuri headed chapter.
I never want this series to end! But all good things find their finish line eventually and one day, probably sooner than we'd like, The ABCs of Spellcraft will have fulfilled it's duty to entertain while conveying the zany hijinks of it's starring couple, Dixon and Yuri.
Just when you think there isn't possibly any more trouble the men(or more specifically, Dixon) can stumble their way into they find another street to travel. Just as Uncle Fonzo has stepped up into a new role, Dixon also finds his new path as the top dog , Hand of the Penn family. He's not exactly the most qualified candidate but perhaps that is what makes him perfect for the role as he has definitely seen his fairshare of the good and bad on his magical journey.
When faced with his first big crisis, Dixon goes at it as only he would: backwards or more precisely, finding a way to break a long-standing ban for assistance to the mayor's son. Dixon has definitely got the gene that says "you tell me I can't so I'm going to prove to you I can do it anyway". He may not take Yuri on a straight-line journey but they always get to where they're meant to be.
The Bucket List is another great entry in a series that is so full of fun adventures I can't stop smiling just thinking about it. If you haven't started this series yet and are a fan of heat and humor balacing with the magical side, I strongly recommend ABCs of Spellcraft from beginning to end. You won't be sorry.
It's hard to explain why I love this series so but I jump with internal glee when a new book is released. Yuri and Dixon are the perfect pare and Pinyin Bay is the perfect "Crooked little houses on a Crooked little Street." In a mass of goofiness the two men somehow transmit emotions that are deep and lasting while all the time being in funny, twisted, sometimes sad, always frustrating, sometimes brave and always loving between the two of them. Yuri lives in fear of being deported back to Russia and loosing his beloved Dixon so he lives with deep suspicion of everything, yet will do anything for his Dixon. Dixon has risen from being a hand without a quill and now rising to be his families "Hand in charge." To Yuri and Dixon family means everything and the new baby, Tuesday, his cousin Sabrina had with Dixon's arch enemy Vana, brings joy to all of them. In this short story, Dixon had deep empathy for Otto who has lost the towns "Perch" costume and can't get the "Hands" to help him with a "Crafting." Dixon can't let Otto fail at getting the costume back. Back and forth across Pinyin Bay they go in search of the costume for Otto. A story that touches your funny bone as well as your heart. This author has an amazing imagination that you have to admire as you read these twisted, non-sensical stories that have so much buried in their words. A must read.
Dixon and Yuri are baaaaack! Again, Dixon and Yuri find themselves in another bizarre quest through the always interesting streets of Pinyin Bay. Dixon’s heart of gold cannot stand injustice or people suffering, he will do anything to help… And Yuri will always support his companion, no matter how convoluted his plans… Together, they chase behind an elusive goal, meeting many of the unique inhabitants in Pinyin Bay. Some of them we are familiar with, although some of them we re-discover (ah, Morticia, you are my hero…), and some are new and endearing additions to this big, crazy family I’ve come lo love in these twelve short but intense adventures we’ve shared so far… I’m really looking forward to finding out what comes next! I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review
This is another hilarious, fun-filled, wild ride with Dixon and Yuri, and I loved it! I am always amazed at the crazy, zany situations and creative solutions Jordan (and the spellcraft) comes up with. No details, no spoilers from me...just READ IT. You won't be disappointed, although you may need a map and flashlight to find your way through the twists and turns. As usual, it all works out for the best (kinda) for everyone in the end. Remember, the Spellcraft knows best.
I gratefully accepted a free ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Every time there is a new addition to this series I get so excited. I adore Dixon and Yuri. Each book is an adventure and I just fall more in love with these guys and their crazy, adorable family. Dixon's big, generous heart has him trying to help that no other scrivener will all without using spellcraft. It was a hoot seeing ninety-nine-year-old Morticia work through her bucket list. My favorite part of the entire book was Yuri's response when Dixon asks him about his own bucket list. Highly recommended author and series
Hard to believe this book is 12 deep into the series and it's still as funny, sweet and quirky as ever. Dixon, Yuri and the gang are once again in pursuit of truth (and the town mascot costume) whilst Morticia is hitting her bucket list like there's no tomorrow. Very entertaining!
The adventures the gang get up to amaze. If we all had this much fun in our lives the world would be a much better pace. Comes along as Dixon and Yuri search for a missing fish....?
I love the ABCs of Spellcraft series I really do and it pains me to say that I didn't love Bucket List as much as the others. I think one reason is because the series is nearly ending and I'm just not ready to say goodbye to Yuri and Dixon!
As hilarious as the previous books XD this one though hit a rough patch for me and I had a bit of a time remembering who was who and unable to pick the book everyday and that I think took some enjoyment from Bucket List. I do have to say that the premise of this book is to try and solved something without using spellcrafting and that was really fun. Onto the next book! Almost finished the series wow, I think I'm also a bit sad about that :')
