She’s hunted for what she is. He hunts those who would hurt them.

When Astrid is attacked by a creep calling himself a Slayer, it seems like a cruel prank the universe is pulling on her already crappy life.

Then Kaden, the most infuriating, stunning boy she’s ever met, arrives and tells her she’s a dragon-kin like him—part dragon, part human.

Then Astrid actually shifts into a dragon. A creature from fairy tales and legends. A monster in modern times.

Wonderful.

It's not wonderful to Kaden, who should be busy hunting down the Slayers, a group as vicious as his methods and as dark as his past. He doesn’t have time to chaperone a girl with newly awakened dragon powers, one who’s too stubborn to stay safe. He knows from hard experience not to get involved with anyone or anything. He knows he should stay away from Astrid.

Yet working together becomes vital when the Slayers hatch a new plan to destroy the dragon-kin, headed by a deadly new leader. And with Astrid as their prime target, Kaden might be the only one who can stop them…if the secrets they both carry don’t destroy them first.

Perfect for fans of Michelle Madow, A.L. Knorr, and Harry Potter; if you love fast-paced YA urban fantasies, dragon shifters, undiscovered magic, twisting magical mysteries, and a slow burn enemies-to-lovers romance, sink your teeth into Dragon Born!

This is an incredible first book In this fast-paced YA urban fantasy series. In this we meet Astrid who has no idea she is dragon kin but finds out after she is attacked by dragon slayers and get introduced to a whole new world of dragon shifters, tamers and merlins. The world building is incredible and beautiful and draws you in and the storyline is exciting, gripping and entertaining with characters well the characters that you grow to love and stand up for. It’s a captivating, magical world with a storyline that has twists and turns to keep you on your toes and I cannot wait to read the next book!

Life is not easy for anyone, and when you add misfortune to it, then it is even harder to find those random, floating moments of happiness or simply contentment which you get through.
But when being different is added to the mix, the odds become almost insurmountable, because petty people generally hate and bully those who are different - it doesn't matter if they're good-different, bad-different, or just longing-to -be-accepted different, they're still ostracized and misunderstood.

In this story, even the different appear to judge the different. The coming together of misfits, who form bonds and learn to support and accept each other in a strong unit is the most heart-warming part of this book for me. The greatest the challenge they face, the more they have each other's back, which means trust and is very hard to come by. They come together by complementing each other in what I hope will become an invincible whole - the nerd, the fighter, the loner, the hard-worker, the brainiac - all separately and intertwined. So many facets for the same goal - to survive and make the world a better place.

I always greatly enjoy all Sean's books, his talent is honed in a hundred legendary battles. I am pleased to reconnect with the dragon-kin in a new series, and thanks to the good writing I feel connected to all the characters and really look forward to "see" what's next.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ DNF @ 53%
Spice level: none
Format: KU
Main characters: Kaden and Astrid
Genre: PNR
POV: 1st person Dual
Tropes:
- Dragon shifter
- High school
- Dead parent
- Training new abilities
- Hunted by slayers

Objectively this is a good book, I just think I’m getting too old for this type of YA. It read very adolescent and it lacked the romance to hold my attention 🤷‍♀️ on to better book then…

The first book in a new young adult urban fantasy series where we get to meet Astrid and Kaden, Holly, Yuki, Nico and many more. Astrid is a very disturbed young woman who is struggling with her miserable life but who gets by with the help of her best and only friend Holly. She works hard after school but all her money is taken from her by her abusive step father. Then one fine day she is attacked by a slayer and in defence she starts to turn into a dragon. Kaden steps in to defend her and tells her that she, like him, is what is known as dragon-kin and that he was willing to help her. Astrid soon finds herself being bullied into joining a guild by the convocation, asked to stay away from Kaden as he was a rogue and breaking all the rules, hunted by slayers and being given a tamer to help her. Kaden refuses to stay away from Astrid as he feels he is the only one able to really protect her so together they keep on getting more into trouble with the convocation until Kaden gets arrested, Nico, Maya and Jud, known as the allegiant strike at Astrid whilst she is undefended but then all hell is let loose. I love the characters in this series, and all the action and mystery surrounding the dragon-kin. I am sure that in the following books much more will come to light as to the power of dragons which seem to be all around us and hiding in plain sight.

ARC - Dragon Born (Legacy of Dragons #1) by Sean Fletcher I LOVE Sean Fletcher's fantasy worlds! I picked up Sean's latest offering, and found myself fully immersed in the fascinating world of Dragons, Dragon-kin, Guilds, and Slayers. I became so entranced with the characters that I felt like I know them all. I continued reading and realised that I feared the Convocation.
Sean hasn't disappointed with this superb story that is so full of intricate descriptions that the entire world comes alive. The characters are so well detailed that it feels like I've known them forever. The plot twists and constant action kept me on the edge of my seat, and when I wasn't reading, I was desperate to get back to find out what happened next!
I can't wait for the second instalment of the Legacy of Dragons ... no pressure, Sean :)

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. Brilliantly written with lots of action packed happenings. Follow Astrid through her discovery of belonging to the Dragon kin. Individuals who have inherited the power to turn into part dragon. The story gets more intense when she meets Kaden after being followed and attacked by Slayers who almost wiped out her kind. He is like her, but is a protector, gone rogue. Imagine his surprise when during the attack Astrid turns to a full fledged dragon, unheard of? Maybe, but the fight is on to keep her safe. Taken to a school she joins one of the frats but then her problems just get worse. So what is she to do? Prepare for a long night of reading and feeling the rush!

Sean Fletcher has become one of my favorite authors.

In Dragon Born, we have a teenage girl, Astrid, who unbeknownst to herself, has magical powers and can become a dragon. As her powers begin to manifest, she has no idea what is happening or how to control them until she meets up with Kaden, a strange mysterious boy who has saved her on several occasions from a group called Slayers who are trying to capture her. As their friendship strengthens and she learns how to control her powers, Astrid, Kaden and new group of friends uncover a diabolical Slayer plot which ends in a major battle.

This is another entertaining story by Sean. I have to admit when I got to the last 15% of the book, I couldn't stop until I finished even though I should have been in bed ages ago

We have action, a little suspense and mystery. We have slayers, dragon-kin, Merlin’s, Tamers, we have the supernatural. Follow Astrid as she learns a new side to herself? Follow Kaden as he try’s to protect her? What will happen when Astrid finds out what she is? What will her best friend do? Will Kaden stay and help her? Is he just using her? What is these guilds about? Who are these slayers? Why’d do they want h and others? Why is Kaden a fugue dragon-kin? Can she trust all these new people in her life? Why does every guild want her? Can’t wait for the next book to see what happens. I received a free copy for my honest review.

I loved this! I haven't read the Heir of Dragons series, but I've been meaning to, and I'm definitely moving it up the list after reading this one.

It's YA Urban Fantasy with a fun magic system and dragon-kin, who have powers but can't fully shift into dragons.

The MC Astrid learns about her powers and the nearby magical community after meeting the other MC Kaden, who is hunting Slayers in the area. The rest of the book focuses on Astrid finding her place in the community while they fight against the Slayers out to destroy the dragon-kin.

The twists near the end really did take me by surprise, and the ending has me ready for book 2.

I’ve read a lot of Fletcher’s books and I was itching to jump into this one. A brand new series and brand new characters with a plot that is engaging from the first chapter and just gets more so as you read on. I adored the world building and the characters, the dynamic between Kaden and Astrid as well as Astrid and Holly fuelled the plot in a delightful way. I was hooked from page one and didn’t want to put the book down until I could finally discover what happened. That ending left me itching for more and this is gonna be a series that I watch. Recommended for all those who love urban fantasy!

Fantasy

Good writing and editing. This first book of the story describes a paranormal world where some characters have the ability to partially shift into Dragon like creatures. They are in a hidden conflict with an enemy they thought was defeated, but has returned and is trying to destroy them. Our heroine is 17 and living with her abusive stepfather when she erupts into her dragon form. She is rescued by our hero who has a dark and anti social history. She joins the pnr community and battles enemies and authority figures. All in all a good read.

Wow! Once again this author puts pen to paper and the story that came out was just so beautiful! I love the tenacity of all of his characters. The world building is so amazing! The fact that there are some characters that struggle but they’re still excepted. I love that everyone has their own wounds to Bear and how they’re all vulnerable. I can’t wait to read the next book! If you love adventure, charm, action, mystery, magic, love, acceptance, and bravery then you will pick up this book!

Dragon Born is a young adult story, but that doesn't mean it's immature. No, it's a great story, and I think I'll be reading more of this series. I mean, dragons, why wouldn't I? Seriously, if you like dragon stories, you can't go wrong with this one.

All the feels! The story gets moving from the very beginning, which is nice. No boring intro here. Sean once again weaves a tale that snagged me from page 1. Strong characters all around. Great villains that you also want to "smash, kill, devour"! And a cliffhanger that isn't too painful, but keeps you wanting more! Cannot wait to see where this series goes!

I love this story line, it has well paced plot development and even within the first book the character development is refreshing without having to wait to see any change in characters. Astrid is a strong balanced FMC and the other main characters have great personalities especially Yuki! Ending on a cliffhanger I just couldn’t wait to get to the second book!

This was the first book that I’ve read by this author and it was fine a little bit different than a normal driving book. I thought it was interesting that she ordered the community didn’t really shift into full dragons but she did and I’m not sure exactly why that’s an issue and never came out and said.

Bring Them Back

There are some truly beautiful moments in a novel full of distrust and strife. A dream come true for those of us who feel we missed out on some of the best of the so-called dark ages.

I'm not sure if the other reviewers read the same book. The story was tepid at best. The FMC was TSTL at times. The writing style was solid, but the plot was honestly boring. I finished the book despite my reservations, got 3 pages into Book 2 before DNF.
