Big Boss

Rate this book
I may have a less-than-perfect reputation from my days as a world-famous rockstar, but now I’m the big boss of one of the top labels in the music game. The contracts I ink bring in billions. Finding talent is my specialty, keeping an assistant—not so much. It’s true what they say… good help is hard to find. They either see me as an easy lay or a stepping stone to the top. With the charity I’ve worked so hard to create on the line, I know I have to clean up my act. Luckily, my newest assistant claims she’s never heard of me.…

I thought I was applying to be a corporate assistant. Turns out I should have read the fine print, because babysitter would be a more accurate job description. Now it’s my job to keep him out of trouble, which is a colossal feat, because whether he’s looking for it or not, it finds him with a capital ‘T.’ But it’s fine. I’ve got it all under control—I’m in no way dazzled by his panty-melting smile and I’m certainly not fantasizing about my hot older boss punching my V-card. After all, he’s paying me to keep him on the straight and narrow, and I’m willing to do anything to prove to him that I’m the right fit for the job. Even if that means pretending to be his girlfriend.…

No connection with both main characters, tbh I didn’t find them appealing.
Also, there was an age gap between them but no information of their ages.

“A man who is old enough to be my father, but looks like every sexy daddy meme come to life.” Erica
“This man is a stranger. Probably twice my age, maybe even a little bit older.” Erica

Not my cup of tea.

The best relationship is when you can act like lovers and best friends at the same time...

Donovan Tate, rockstar turned music producer has a reputation for being the "bad boy" and is known for his prowess in the bedroom. He needs to mend his ways if he wants to represent the charity that is near and dear to his heart. Tate needs someone to keep him on the straight and narrow. Erica sets her sights to prove to Tate she is the woman for the job. A plus is she does not even know who Tate is. Tate is tired of past assistants whose goal is to get into his pants.

I found myself being constantly amused by the banter between these two. Watching them become best friends then lovers was pure joy. They each discover that the other has many layers that fall to the wayside as they grow closer to each other.

This story was funny, sexy and romantic, and will have you hoping that they get their HEA they both deserve.

What to expect when you are on your way to job interviews, and someone steals your coffee? A new job? Love? A relationship? Yeah, Erica too, does not. A story full of a lot of communication that is in reality only leading to misunderstandings. Tate and Erica as well have a few problems with words. One to formulate them, the other to hear them out. Problem, a musician and an assistant shouldn't have them. But that is what makes the whole story full of funny moments and sometimes either not so funny ones. I laughed hard, I shook my head hard and I sighed in the end. And, of course there were some steamy scenes as well. The end was swoon worthy.

I loved Erica and Tate equally. There were thoughts and scenes that were absolute hilarious. And let's not talk about Tate's telephone moments with Jackson. A must read for a good time. And really, THAT song? And Ericas reaction as she realizes.

This one was a quick read, the writing was really good.

Donovan Tate is the former rockstar and now he is a music producer who has a very bad reputation b'coz of his past mistakes and he desperately wants to erase all his bad reputation.

Erica Ridley who is vulnerable and deals with her anxiety and who constantly try to force herself to fit into this world and people try to make her feel different from others b'coz of her outer appearance.

When Donovan and Erica meet in a unexpected situation and she end up being his assistant. Now her focus is to help Donovan to gain his reputation and in that process things take very unexpected turns, however she was his biggest support.

On the whole I like this story.

Those who like age gap, workplace, enemies/fiends/lovers romance can pick this one.

I'm leaving this review in exchange of an ARC.

Man! I couldn’t read this book fast enough!! I loved the first book in this series and was anxiously awaiting this books release! Donovan Tate used to be a rockstar - now he’s making music a different way - producing it for others. One morning in his building, he inadvertently takes a coffee that is meant for another and when she chases him down to get it back, all hilarity ensues. Erica Ridley has everything organized to a tee - lists are her life - she has a back up plan for everything including her back up plans!! So when some random guy steals her coffee, she finds herself in the one situation where her schedule is decimated and no back up plan exists!! Now what?!
What happens after is hysterical, heartwarming, hot hot hot, heartbreaking and then incredibly - emotionally romantic!! Such a journey and I loved every single second of reading this book!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4.5 STARS
Book two in the Big Easy Billionaire series can easily be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.
Donovan Tate: billionaire, music producer, former Rockstar bad boy with a horrible playboy reputation.
Erica Ridley: recent college graduate with a plan, incredible intelligent, the girl who never fits into the world around her.
I love the heroine’s name. I appreciate the nod to the historical romance author with that name and that many historical romances have a similar plot of the rake and the virgin. Erica’s character was a revelation. I loved how complex she was and that she was atypical in many ways. In school she was known as Weirdly Ridley as she was bullied mercilessly. She adapted to need control of herself and her world to survive and thrive. I understood her and I appreciated her immensely. I loved how she constantly battled her anxiety in the day-to-day as well as her feelings of insecurity and vulnerability.
Tate has perfected the act of carelessness which he has developed to hide his own vulnerabilities. At times, he is a little dense, but I forgave him for that as did Erica. I appreciated that he is hiding his own weaknesses and insecurities. I loved how alpha he is in the physical scenes- seriously hot. I also loved how protective he is of Erica and how he defends her when he sees a future for them that other people struggle to see.
The story begins with humor and a fun scene involving coffee stealing and witty banter. After Erica becomes Donovan’s assistant, they form a friendship that runs deep before they ever become more. As I read the book, I really wanted more details about this part of the story and wanted to see how their friendship developed. (After I finished the book, I jumped over to the Dissent anthology which has a short with this couple. There, I found the chapters of their early friendship which I felt were missing in the book.) I appreciated the way they relate to each other and how Erica never lets Tate get away with anything. I also love how he challenges her and nudges her outside her comfort zone while being there to support her. Though there is an age gap, it never becomes the big deal it often is made out to be in age gap books. I loved how I only saw the characters and not their age difference. They were perfect for each other. This was an enjoyable read with complex characters that I loved.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
