Fairly standard (sub)urban fantasy with hot monster girls. Story was ok, but pacing and characters were a bit off. Particularly the chapter-long sex scene near the end was excessive and really interrupted the actual story.

Evidently this was the author's first book, so not bad by that standard, but hopefully book two is a bit tighter.

This subset of fantasy books has certain expectations.

You expect a quick set up to the world state. There will be very convenient interactions ending in a quick relationship, or several. All of that is par for the course. What differentiates good from bad is well made characters and an interesting storyline. This has neither. The MC is written as a horndog, goodie two shoes heroic character. If you try to make someone into everyone, you usually get no one. His ability is very OP, and so vague that it comes off as a quick fix for a lack of creativity on the author's part. The story is bland throughout and the little bits that try to fill in a supernatural community are tacked on filler. All the characters need a detailed once over, none of them feel genuine as the flip flop through the book being whatever is needed for the specific scene they are currently in.

Brilliant concept and start

Brilliant and unusual concept for a story with some intrigue, twists and turns and definitely a good romp or two as the MC is introduced to the world of supernatural rather violently.
But no better way to learn than throwing them into the mix.

A couple of minor story inconsistencies here and there, but nothing major to the story and more about sudden wardrobe changes... otherwise a good first start and definitely intrigued to look into book 2!

Interesting Story

Paul is in way over his head, a Jaunt drive with a mysterious goth chick passenger turns his world upside down and inside out. Discovering he's something called a Talimancer he's learning about the supernatural world on the fly through a series of adventures that twist his former views of reality. Throw a sexy succubus into the mix for spice and you have the recipe for an excellent story!

So the MC just says that the abandoned asylum is his territory now and moves in. But, like doesn't somebody actually own it? Like have a deed to the property or whatever? It's on land, in the city, so someone has to own that shit. You can't just show up and plant your flag and suddenly it's yours, talismancer or not.

New gun in town.

Well for a first timer I will say I love the way the story was built up. Slow burn with a non-OP MC, brilliantly written. I look forward to seeing where this new gun goes. Well done, well done indeed.

Excellent read

For a first book the author definitely shines on this one. Lots of gritty action and well written adult content to make it that much more fun to read. Definitely adding him to my list of must read authors.

Great start

A little different explanation of things. I actually thought a succubus drained men dry. Live ghosts and an army to defeat them!

Winding story but fun to read

This is a winding story. It is very fun to read. Reminds me of something else, but different enough. Good action but some adult scenes are too long.
