WARNING, RANT BELOW, WITH CURSING.

This was an AMAZING book, until at about 96%, the author decided the following.

"You know what would be REALLY FUNNY?!? If we had a 15 year old girl FONDLED by a dirty old man!! OOOH! I know! We'll make him the most POWERFUL person at the school, the DEAN! And he'll call the protagonist to go see him and her maid/best friend will be there too. THEN, while they are left alone by the teacher who fetched them and is getting him and are waiting for him in a place they have never been before, that isn't well lit, he'll SNEAK UP BEHIND the maid/best friend and while saying DISGUSTING things about liking them plump like that, or something equally HYSTERICAL, he will start to grope her breasts AS IF HE HAD HER PERMISSION AND THE RIGHT TO DO THAT!! Wouldn't that just be SO FUNNY??!? And THEN she will burst into tears of horror and fear and shame and run to hide behind the protagonist!?? And the teacher will wield a sword at the pervert and threaten him, saying things about how HE'S DONE THINGS LIKE THAT BEFORE and how he shouldn't, but not actually, you know, DO anything to him and he gets away with it by hand waving!? Won't that be an absolute RIOT?!?!"

What the absolute F*CK was that SH*T?!?!?!?!!

This book was SO GOOD, but then that scene?? If it was an important plot point, if the Uber-powerful protagonist kicked his gonads so hard that they literally came out of his mouth while she told him in no uncertain terms that what he did was NOT acceptable and then she proceeded to break every bone in each of his hands, I could MAYBE see it. But NO. It was played for LAUGHS. Well, I for one, am not laughing. I am FUMING, DAYS after having read it. Never going to read this series or that author AGAIN.

While I can't control what anyone does, I would HIGHLY recommend voting with your wallet and not spending any of your hard-earned money or time on this absolute CR@P.

1 star, only because I can't go any lower.

ok but not great

It was ok, I disliked the attitude of the Mc most of the time but it was fine.

In the second to last chapter there as an abrupt and jarring sexual assault of a 15 year old by the head master that made the entire book a no go for me.

This is one of those times when I don't understand how people can give something I've read such high ratings. The book picks up at the 75% mark. Prior to that I don't think I really found it amusing and there's one scene you could consider exciting (in the whole book). There's potential here, but I suspect the second volume will revert to the same formula as the first. I.e. more of the same.

Basically, Mary was a sickly child who spent all her life in isolation in hospital, so 'god' reincarnates her as Supergirl. Actually, Kryptonians are weak against magic, Mary is impervious to that too. Now, it's not all plain sailing for Mary because she's super-strong and can't control it, but she decides to let other people handle everything for her (just like in her past life), so she never learns to control her strength. Basically, she's lazy, and stupid. Determined to live an easy life, she does her best to hide her heroic attributes, and this is much of the source of tension and humour in the book. But it's all so contrived that it doesn't really provide either. Worse, Mary is pretty genre savvy. So, she should realise that she's doomed to be a hero, no matter what she does. This element of the genre escapes her, however, and she's constantly frustrated by her failures. Half the time, she doesn't even realise that she's succeeded because things didn't work out exactly as she intended. Essentially, this is one of those plots that only works because everyone in it gets handed the idiot ball constantly.

Anyway, having proven herself a martial genius, but still coming away with a reputation as frail and sickly, in the next book she'll be repeating the experience with magic. I don't really expect any improvement, but I may be persuaded to give volume 2 a chance, if I've nothing else to read.

It was okay about sums this up.

Edit to add that I think this'll probably have an anime adaptation by the end of 2024. Be interesting to see how that prediction works out.

DNF. It took me forever to get to the halfway point, it was so frustrating. It could have been interesting with Mary being unwillingly OP thanks to a final wish as she died in her original life. The problem is that she is dumb..and the author is illogical. Ok, I understand she’s spoiled by her family and also that she was used to people doing things for her because she was sick in her original life. But in this life she wants to…do nothing? Even though she wanted to experience things she couldn’t before? It makes no sense that she can’t control her strength - she’s been doing martial arts for years, and if anything, that would teach her control over her body. If she wasn’t controlling her strength, Sacher would be beaten worse than he already is. It’s really irritating that she’s so helpless and cowardly.

Also….yes, she lived another life. But she grew up completely in this one - she didn’t transmigrate into the body now, she awakened as a newborn - so she shouldn’t be totally thinking as a Japanese person anymore. The fact that she keeps using modern terms for things is stupid. Given that her first life was so constrained, THIS life should be more vivid and eventful and start to overwrite the past memories.

As was mentioned by others, the headmaster out of nowhere grabs the breasts of her maid and feels her up. Although the reaction of everyone was anger/shock, they don’t actually do anything. It’s like they were just setting the stage for him being a dirty old man.

I am flabbergasted that there are so many volumes in this series. As a one shot or duet, I could accept. But at least 6?! Why is it the crappiest light novels that get so much attention?

A cute story about an overpowered character who tries to actually blend in, hide that they are over-powered, naturally that means . . ..

Right, so, this is the first book in this series, the first book I've read by this author, though not the first Japanese book that's been translated into English I've read. Also not the first 'Light Novel' I read, though the previous light novel I read was one I didn't actually realize that was what I was reading until after I read this one. What's a Light Novel? um... The definitions are kind of all over the place, but basically a Japanese version of a young adult book that has a tendency to occasionally include anime like illustrations every once in a while in the book, while not being a manga/anime/graphic novel itself.

This specific book is about a young woman who lived her entire life inside a Japanese hospital listening to machines beeping, reading everything she could get her hands on, and wishing she could do things. Like go to school. I've just completed the fourth book so I can't recall specifically now, but I believe she was the kind of sickly wherein she couldn't even hug her parents. While dying at the age of [insert age here, probably ~12/13] her last breath involved her wishing she could reincarnate in a body that wouldn't be sickly, that wouldn't be able to be harmed, and various things like that. Don't recall exactly what happened, but a voice in her head said something like 'okay'.

This is not the kind of reincarnation story wherein the person wakes up in the body of a 10/15/22/44 year old with the memories of their past life and possibly some vague sense of an idea of that body's memories. No, the main character was born. Grew up. First book's very beginning follows her until she reaches a certain age - one where she is told she's going to go to school. Whereupon she's super excieted because, she gets to go to school!!!!

The interactions with those around her, and her parents are neat. Though I wish there was a deeper connection with her parents. There are some nice scenes, but she's barely near them. And by book four, I sometimes forget she has parents.

Pretty darned good. It kept my attention. It didn't go anywhere bold or thrilling but it was a pleasant read.

The major components of a reincarnation type story were there. There was only one bad guy and he wasn't pure evil, just obnoxious and a jerk. No kingdoms to be saved. No evil sorcerers from Hell.

The characters were well designed and worked nicely. The plot was bulletproof. The writing was good. I liked the way different characters saw completely different versions of reality.

This was a good read.

Strange yet endearing.

The first half of this book has the uncomfortable feeling of reading a girls diary behind her back for some reason, which was very unnerving. However the writing style gets better as you go and starts feeling more like a novel instead. While the story can be a bit lacking at times the over all light heatedness of it all makes it a worthwhile read. I deducted 2 stars due to the uncomfortable feeling it gives me for the first half and look forward to the next book as I'm sure the writing will only get better.

Not that terrible, what makes it hard to enjoy for me is:
The premise makes no sense, why someone that experienced nothing in previous life wants to lie low and do nothing?
Physical violence on one of the main character's friends is done constantly as a comedy moment. wtf?
There is one instance when a person in power sexually harasses other main character's friend, that was also portrayed as a comedy moment. wtf2?

Pretty good

I think sometimes the adherence to not sticking out goes agenst her new start and living to the fullest on her second try. Definitely a loli hero outlook that I home gets more roudy. Worth reading if you don't want the typical op hero story so far.
