This was such a fantastic 3rd book! I absolutely loved it! The author switched it up even more in this one, by having the main focus on the Christmasaurus, & we don’t even see William until way later in the book. At 1st I didn’t know what I thought of that, but I actually really enjoyed it! It was a nice change up, & it was great spending some quality time with my favorite blue dinosaur lol He had a great task, & a grand adventure in here, & I also loved all the characters we meet in here, & their stories. This was just as cozy, heartwarming, charming, beautiful, & full of great messages as the others were. And of course, almost every page is full of the most stunning illustrations by Shane Devries. Not to mention the beautiful cover front & back, end pages, & naked hardback! Highly recommend this whole series!💜

I feel so harsh giving this book only 3 stars but a lot of it is because Tom Fletcher has set the standards so high with the first two Christmasaurus books!

This book kept the inclusion elements just as well as the previous ones, with elves and people of all shapes and colours across all the pages. All the children’s stories in the book were different and they all came from different backgrounds. There was one child who had a working mum and a stay at home dad which was awesome to see! The individual stories of each child were filled with lessons of kindness and acceptance and helping each other and learning not to be selfish. Some of them did make you feel all warm inside, especially the first story of Ronnie! What a sweet boy he turned out to be!

I love how Fletcher’s theme is that children are not all naughty and not all nice but rather a bit of a mix of both which definitely applies in the classroom!!

However, I thought the layout of the story and the way it was told became very repetitive and predictable, and I hate how William became an afterthought in this book!! I feel like a lot of the same Christmassy feeling the other books give so well was lost a little too as it was focused mainly on the lists in the run up to Christmas! William’s story I feel was crammed in at the end and read as though it was rushed and the ending was predictable - I would have loved the whole book to be about just William’s story with more detail and development and plot twists!!

There was also a LOT of shameless self-promotion and references to Fletcher’s other books in here, which I can understand, but did put me off a little bit. Not all children will have the chance to read his other books so wouldn’t understand the references, plus it just gets a little bit annoying when you have ‘there’s a book about that too…’ several times in a story! Sorry not sorry!

I did love the character development of the Christmasaurus though! He’s found his life purpose and takes pride in his world helping children which is so sweet! I don’t necessarily think this book is useless to the Christmasaurus series, but it’s definitely not my favourite!

https://youtu.be/MswNBVJ-uuc

Pourquoi cela ? me direz-vous...

sigh. so i thought i hadn't rated the first two books, but i guess it was just the frist one. i'm not sure if i'll actually put the rating up, because this feels like it should be 2 stars. it wasn't anywhere near as magical as the first two books, and it felt really formulaic and predictable in a way that really didn't work for me. the second book had some good stuff about the one naughty character learning to be nice, and how sometimes she still slipped up, how everyone can be naughty and nice at the same time, etc. and this felt like a rehash of that theme...but an entire book. also, for such a nice, inclusive series, i was shocked to find harmful stereotypes here.

a note:

if you love this book/series, please just enjoy it. if you don't want to read my negative thoughts, just stop here. i don't want to put anyone off these books, but i want to write my thoughts here for future me to reference = )

a few vague things that bothered me: the bully who is a bully For A Good Reason and the gamer who does nothing but play games and ignore the real world. i'm someone who was bullied, and my boyfriend is a gamer, and i'm honestly tired of seeing things oversimplified like this. sure, you can see bullies as complicated people with lives you don't know about and hardships that make them who they are. but that NEVER should excuse bullying. and doing a bad thing for a good reason isn't a message i can get on board with. i'm really sensitive to this type of nonsense, and i wanted the bully to realize what they were doing wrong and make things right and NOT be rewarded. it felt like the equivalent of a participation trophy. no one deserves an award for learning how to be a halfway decent human. no. just no.

gamers also have to deal with the idea that they hide away on their computers or whatever, and are unaware of the outside world. like they can't enjoy a hobby because someone has decided it's a waste of time, lazy, for kids, unhealthy, etc. and the character in this book took it to that stereotypical extreme. and i hated it. if you're trying to teach kids something with a flat caricature, teach them to see beyond a stereotypical portrayal of that type of character. show them not everything they heard about is true. and especially for the gamer, show them still gaming at the end and NOT just giving it up entirely because it's toxic.

there's also a character who sneaks out of their house, which we learn is Very Wrong, and the reader is directly addressed and told it's a Bad Thing. then once we see the christmasaurus with william...well, it's time to set a final thing right! and they casually sneak out and stay out all night and absolutely nothing is mentioned about how or why that's different than what the other character did. except that it's, again, doing a bad thing for a good reason.

when it comes down to it, i'm an adult reading a book for kids. it wasn't written with me in mind, but i also don't like to see things dumbed down or oversimplified in a way that supposedly reaches kids. kids aren't stupid...they're just younger.

i also saw another reviewer mention how annoying the references to fletcher's other books were, and YES! i guess since this is the end of this series, he's plugging his other books for you to buy? idk, really tacky in my opinion. there was a thing in maybe the first book( ?) that mentioned something like, "oh, that's because his father was a creaker"...and i knew it as another series by this author, and thought i might check it out, and then i moved on. this was in your face like DON'T FORGET TO GET MY OLDE BOOKS AND WATCH OUT FOR NEW ONES, KIDS! and yeah. just really shameless and i didn't appreciate it.

so definitely not my favorite of the series, and if i ever reread them, i'll probably just go for the first two. though i did enjoy spending so much time with the christmasaurus!!

After already reading the first two in this series I was excited to read this! It's become a bit of a tradition in our house the last few years to read a Christmasaurus over the festive period. This one was read with my 8 year old.

This was different to the last two books in that it didn't focus so much on William & the Christmasaurus' friendship. It was more about Christmasaurus and saving Christmas! We didn't really hear from William until near the end of the book.

It was very inclusive like the other books which was good to see. There were references to Tom's other books too - I got these, but my 8yo hasn't read those so he didn't, but he didn't really question it either.

We both found it a bit predictable though - and I noticed a few editing errors which bugs me even more in a traditionally published book as big as this 🫣

Overall it was still a lovely book and what I've come to expect from Tom Fletcher's kids books, but it wasn't my favourite in the series!

Unfortunately for me each book in this series gets weaker :(

This book follows the Christmasaurus as he spends the month of December helping children on the naughty list get back onto the nice list on the lead up to Christmas. Unfortunately his best friend William Trundle, the nicest kid ever, is also on the naughty list.

90% of this book was following everyone BUT William Trundle and for me what makes the Christmasaurus books so magical is following the friendship between the Christmasaurus and William as well as the rest of the gang; Santa, the elves, Bob and Brenda. We didn't get to see any of these characters until the last like 70 pages, as the Christmasaurus spends most of the book helping characters (we've never met before in this universe) get off the naughty list.

Due to the format of this book it felt like lots of mini short stories as each characters reasons of being on the naughty list was different and I don't think they flowed naturally and left for a stilted reading experience.

This book is great for younger readers, and I know that's the target audience but seeing as I loved the first one and enjoyed the second, I felt disappointed by this third book. The lessons for kids in this book are amazing! 2 of my favourite quotes from the book are...

"Thanks to him (the Christmasaurus) they had all rediscovered the importance of being nice and it wasn't only because they wanted presents...Ok, maybe it was a little bit, but most importantly it was because, well its nice to be nice."
&
"Second chances can't be wrapped up and left under the tree, and often they are the hardest things to give someone, but one second chance can change a life."

The BEST bit was the last 80ish pages when were were in fact reintroduced to William Trundle and the rest of the gang and FINALLY after 350ish pages we were back with the magic of the original Christmasaurus story!

What a perfect ending to the series (although I am very much hoping that Fletcher releases another in time for Christmas this year!!) As a family, we loved this book. Absolutely loved it. The children couldn’t wait to start it straight after number two and they found it easier to read/listen to than the complexity of the time travel in book 2. This was a return to the form of book one. The author had them hooked from early on with the mention of a certain person on the Naughty List and they couldn’t wait to keep reading to see what would happen. This really has been one of THE best experiences- reading this series to my children. They have loved it, I have loved their reactions, their excitement, their desire to read more. I cannot recommend this enough ❤️

A fun, sweet, heartwarming book with fabulous illustrations & great typography too! Loved the Christmasaurus character & reading the book gave me that warm tingly Christmas feeling! I haven't read the previous 2 books, but I want to now!

Still loved my adventure with the Christmasaurus but I didn't love it as much as the other two.
I still however recommend it as it has all the different aspects of the first 2 but I'm not sure what it was with this one.

Still a lovely wholesome Christmas tale

What can I say about this book? This is another lovely Christmas tale following the adventures of Chrissy the Christmasaurus. The naughty list outweighs the nice list and Christmasaurus needs to help balance it. Various children are on the list for various reasons including William Trundle.

A heart warming story about friendship, honesty, and being nice. A brilliant middle grade story I'd recommend to all.

Read this to my daughter in the lead up to Christmas. Reading the Christmasaurus books has become a Christmas tradition over the last three years. I think this was my favourite one.

Such an easy and enjoyable read. The first Christmasaurus book is still my favourite but this one was brilliant.
