For those who don’t enjoy going to the doctor or anybody who thinks of them as stuffy, stern, and no-nonsense, Dr. David Friedman is here to set you straight! In his new book, the award-winning, #1 bestselling author of Food Sanity: How to Eat in a World of Fads and Fiction shares some much-needed laughter during these stressful times.
This hilarious collection of back-to-back puns, wit, cartoons, and rib-tickling true tales spans Dr. Friedman’s thirty years as a chiropractic neurologist. Laughter truly is the best medicine, and Funny Bones is the prescription you need. Each chapter will crack you up and reduce your stress, spasms, aches, and pains!
This is perfect if you need a light-hearted read and something you can put down and walk away from often (it doesn’t read like a book with a storyline). You can pick it up at any time, flip to any page, and just read a quick joke. If you love one liners, reading this is a novel idea (see what I did there, Dr. Friedman? Lol). Wanted to say thank you, as I won this in a contest and enjoyed it! Now I will drive away in my Ford Occiput.
Cute short book full of many short doctor patient humor that also include pictures. Some are good jokes others "dad jokes as my kids say that arent so funny."
I will admit that I’ve heard a few of these jokes before, but it was very nice to read a book from a fellow Wilmingtonian. I’ve worked in the medical field for most of my life, so I truly enjoyed the humor. I’m sure most of the author’s patients get a real kick out of the jokes, and it probably helps to put them at ease. It’s nice to have a chiropractor who also specializes in comedy, especially in my own city.
Funny Bones made me laugh so hard that I snorted coffee out of my nose. Note to self: Don't eat or drink while reading this book again. I highly recommend Funny Bones. Your entire demeanor will change as it makes you smile and lifts your spirits. My favorite chapter was the adorable stories about children. They are so innocent and cute and are naturally funny without even trying. Dr. Friedman is the type of doctor I wish I had in my my town,
I got to about halfway and snapped. The humour didn't hit me so it just felt like a pain in my side, I was hoping to be in stitches but left cramped up.
I laughed out loud from the very first page. What a delightful, fun, and easy read. Even the cartoons Dr. Friedman drew in each chapter gave me a chuckle. He shares quick-witted humor to help put nervous patients at ease and they also return the humor. with silly banter and even a few practical jokes. The one that the late great Robin Williams played on him was hilarious! I only wish more doctors would learn from this book that it's okay to smile and laugh with patients instead of the typical robotic uncaring nature so often experienced with conventional medicine. From funny true stories about his celebrity patients, married couples, and children, to farts, smelly patients and rednecks, this book has it all. I must warn you, if you are looking for a memoir-style, detailed book, you will be disappointed with Funny Bones. But if you want a quick, feel-good escape from your stresses and the daily grind, this book is the prescription for you. And, Dr. Friedman is giving all proceeds to charity. He's a funny doctor with a kind, giving heart.
This was a fun and interesting read. Dr. Friedman sounds like a great person with a great sense of humor. He even seems to bring out the humor in his patients. Some of the conversations had me laughing and I even shared some of them with my husband who thought they were funny too.
I don’t know a lot about chiropractors and from what I know, they’re always given a bad rep. This book has changed my thought about them. I mean, it could just be that Dr. Friedman is a very unique and different type of chiropractor, but just knowing how easy going he was and full of jokes, it helps with the stereotyping. I also didn’t know chiropractors did other things such as give advice/opinion on things outside of cracking bones, so that was good to know. However, I'm aware that it could simply be just Dr. Friedman's style.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was lighthearted and puts you at ease about what chiropractors do. I found the section about all the famous people the Doc worked with a lot of fun to read, especially about the guy who played Superman in the Lois & Clark TV show (I know the actors name, just don’t want to say it here). I’d recommend this book to everyone because everyone needs a good laugh.
Funny Bones is right up my alley. I agree with the 30+ celebrities and A list comedians endorsement and the one from Dr. Friedman's mom-- this book is a hoot! Anyone who says it's not funny is living in a serious woke world that has forgotten how to chill out and just be silly. I read Dr. Friedman's last book Food Sanity and it was filled with science, amazing complexities about everything there is to know (and more) about diet, weight loss and nutrition. That book is around 400 pages and took me three weeks to read. Funny Bones is a quick read that you can get through in a couple hours OR just read a few jokes and put it down and come back later. If you like silly puns and cute adorable short stories, this is book to add to your home library.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway, and I thank the author and publisher for this opportunity to give a non-biased review.
Let me preface this by saying I have never been a fan of puns. I don't find them funny - most of the time I groan and move on, shaking my head. I didn't realize this whole book would be the author answering his patients with (some would think funny) puns that fit in with the conversation. I expected there to be long stories about being a chiropractor and funny situations the patients may find themselves in.
That being said, if you love puns and appreciate that humor, you will absolutely love this book. In short, "it will crack you up" but only if you love puns.
Funny Bones is by "Chiropractor to the Stars" David Friedman. This book was not what I was expecting, It reads like an alternation of a kid's joke book with celebrity "tell-all" vignettes.
Lots and lots of puns Lots of stories of various celebrities- and the amusing anecdotes of those encounters.
I have read other "doctor" stories that I felt did a better job of utilizing the humor format. I can see where if you know Dr. Friedman, this book might be quite nice. I really wanted a book that was more coherent, and more of a story.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC, my opinions are my own.
As the title promised, I expected some true tales from a chiropractor that would crack me up. I should probably disclose a pervasive distrust of chiropractors since a friend was incapacitated for life due to the bumblings of one of their number, but I generally can't resist any sort of medical procedural. What I read was just a stupid collection of jokes I have heard since I was in the 4th grade, and none of the "stories" this guy told had any credibility with me. He fancies himself a "Patch Adams" for our times, but I've never seen such a collection of un-funny doo-doo in my life. I wouldn't have finished it, but it was the only book I had downloaded for a flight.
This is the funniest book I have read in a long time. I give Funny Bones a BIG THUMBS UP! I couldn't put it down. I guess I'm addicted to the feeling that laughter creates. If you could use a little more laughter in your life, this is the book for you! I love how Dr. Friedman gives us a look into the crazy things patients say to their doctors. Funny Bones is a lighthearted, easy read that also has some humorous illustrations drawn and captioned by the author. If you enjoy funny stories, puns, silly banter and Dad jokes, get your copy of Funny Bones. I've already purchased three additional books to give as gifts.
He claims the book contains true events and conversations from his office. This mostly reads like a joke book - and many of the jokes and puns I’ve heard before. Maybe he did use some of them on his patients - but some were kind of hurtful so I hope not.
There are a few chapters that are probably “true stories,” like the chapter about treating celebrities, or maybe the one about kid patients. I did like the celebrity chapter. I would have appreciated the book more if it felt like real stories, not jokes.
I Got A Stiff Neck Because I Couldn’t Put This Book Down. Way To Create New Patients.
I wish Dr. Friedman was my chiropractor. For me this book was not just about laughs, there were a few times I actually laughed out loud, but how it shows how much Dr. Friedman cares about his patients and his work. I was also able to get a few ideas to help my conditions and some questions to ask of my own chiropractor.
Dr. Friedman is a funny guy. At times, with a strange sense of humor. I did not read cover to cover, it was more of a “pick up, put down, pick up, again”. I would pick it up for a few chuckles then return later for a few more. My husband, with a dry sense of humor, cracked up over the ones I did not laugh at. So it has different types of humor. I could picture my chiropractor saying these- that alone made me laugh! Thank you, I enjoyed your book!
I won this book in a giveaway. I was expecting more tales from chiropractor but it's really just a book.of jokes. Not for me! It's ok to pick up and read a few pages of jokes at a time. I will be honest that I haven't finished the book yet. It's just not how I like to spend my reading time, I do thank the author for the free book and I will continue to read a few pages at a time for a few laughs!
Technically not through it all, but it's something I'll honestly keep coming back to at times. Not a lot of people will read the jokes and understand the humor from a doc's perspective. When you work in health care, you DO find a lot of humor it. So yes, this is funny but not a whole "IM DYING" laughing, but it makes you smile or even just say to yourself "I've made a joke like that too."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Funny Bones offers an intimate look into the life of an extraordinary individual, capturing both their triumphs and struggles. Through compelling storytelling and detailed insights, it brings their story to life and leaves a lasting impression on readers.
This is a light hearted book that has lots of sunshine to it. Not hilariously funny but quite a few chuckles and the kids loved the humor. Wish my doctor had the attitude of Dr. Friedman. I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I entered the giveaway because I like to laugh. Most of the anecdotes I found to be funny. There were some printing errors, though, but I am not sure if this was an ARC or a published copy. I recommend it.
This book is hilarious!! Dr. Friedman has a wacky sense of humor!! Although I read the book, I can only imagine how funny the audiobook is, especially if Dr. Friedman is reading it!!
Various quips, about patients that he has seen in his practice . He is in Wilmington, NC, via being raised outside the South .That, has some funny moments, as he doesn't speak Southern.
