I received a copy of the ARC for Split Seconds from the author in exchange for an honest review. I had read book 1 in the series and was happy to see some of the characters of reappearing in book 3 (although you can read it as a standalone book if you're not interested in the rest of the series). The book starts with a bang with what turns out to be a scene that is core to the rest of the book.
The main characters are twins Tarin and Tijan, whom author Maggie Thom paints as complex, strong women who are quite different from one another. I would have liked to have seen James, the hard-nosed businessman, more fully developed in character as I think he was very intriguing, albeit unlikable. Meanwhile the twins and August are characters that are explored on many levels and ones I root for as a reader. I recommend this book for its fast pace and the twists at the end - no spoilers here!

I wrote this story so my review may not count but I do know that this story made me hold my breath, get mad, swear a time or two and cheer on the good guys and pray the bad guys got caught. I was very connected to Tijan and her journey of figuring out if her twin was alive or not and then all that she went through. Everything she thought was true was soon a mystery to unravel.

Thom tells the story of their separation in chilling detail that brought tears to my eyes, forced the adrenaline to pump and caused my maternal instincts to feel their agonizing pain—and that was only the beginning. Lest you think all falls into place when they meet again years later, you’d better hang onto your seat because you’re in for more twists and turns than a world-class roller coaster. Thom kept me guessing to the very end with her skillful writing, believably flawed and engaging characters and intriguing subplots. I highly recommend this book.

Tijan grew up feeling someone was missing from her life. A sister, but was she a figment of her imagination? Her mother says her sister died when she was a child, but there is that feeling, and then she sees a picture in the newspaper of a wedding, and a hand is in view; that hand shows a birthmark, a matching birthmark that is also on Tijan. Is her sister, Tarin, still alive? She decides to go to Toronto and find out, but things happen too quickly and she’s thrown into several dangerous situations. She is kidnapped a couple of times, and people she meets think she’s her twin sister. Then a secret trip to the Caspian winery and she sees Tarin, but is too shocked to speak, and runs off instead. Now she discovers her father, whom she’d always suspected was dead, running a giant hotel chain, and working with a Mafia gangster to obtain Caspian winery. Gangsters and Canadian government officials want Tarin, and mistake Tijan for her twin, and things get even more complicated.
My apologies to the author, it’s been three years since I read the previous book in this fascinating series, and unfortunately my memory isn’t too good any more. I had trouble remembering the characters and what happened in the first two stories, so it took me a bit longer to get back into the swing of the series. However, the new characters not only grabbed my interest but it brought me quickly into the current plot, and names and incidents began coming back. Once I was pulled into the story, I was there for keeps, and I wasn’t disappointed. “Split Seconds” continues the series in a highly suspenseful rush of adrenalin. And did I mention the romantic angle? I hope the next book isn’t long in coming. For lovers of suspense thrillers don’t miss this latest light romantic mystery involving danger and intrigue.

Twin sisters Tijan and Tarin are with their mother Tyana in hiding from their father who is a very dangerous man. When the girls are toddlers he tracks them down. Tyana has an escape plan which includes crossing a creek however with recent bad weather the creek has risen two or three feet making it difficult to cross over. While crossing the creek with the twins she loses her balance and Tarin is swept away she gets Tijan to safety then returns to find Tarin but it's in vain she has to accept Tarin is dead.
Fast forward almost 30 years Tijan sees an article on the News although she only sees a hand she is sure it's her twin sister and that's she is still alive not wanting to upset her mother she goes looking for Tarin.
Will the adventure bring the sisters back together? Why did her father never come back for Tijan? Nothing is ever simple where their father is concerned but just how far will he go to get what he wants?
A brilliant read from Maggie Thoms it's the first of her books I've read I loved it have already bought 2 others.

I really enjoyed “Split Seconds,” it’s a great sequel in Maggie Thom’s Caspian Wine series. The story of the twins separated at birth was emotionally compelling! She was wonderfully creative in her character development, which added fun to the mystery. It’s a great read for any age.

Another great book in this series. Twins separated as toddlers, heart-breaking pain, twist and turns, thrilling suspense and her usual alluring writing, this is such a wonderful addition to a superb series.
A book that will keep you on the edge of your chair until the very end. Recommended.

Book three in the series, and just as good as the first two. Not one but two feisty females what’s not to like. Cannot wait for the next book in the series. These are cracking suspense thrillers. Highly recommended must read.

Tijan and Tarin are identical twins separated at age two. Their mother made a deal with a James to have a child to become his heir, when the twins were ready to be born, Tyana ran away not wanting to be subjecting her children to his controlling ways. James found Tyana and came after his daughter, not knowing they were twins. Tyana had an escape plan set up because she knew he would find them some day. Things didn't go as planned....nearly thirty years later Tijan decided she was going to find her twin sister and find out why she has come looking for her and why her father didn't want her and her mother. This is an amazing story of lies and secrets that keeps you turning those pages to find out what's going to happen next. A five plus book, highly recommended.

Split Seconds is the third book in Maggie Thom’s Caspian Wine Series and it most definitely has to be read after you read the other two books. I didn’t read the prior books and I felt as if there were plenty of times that I was missing something. Mind you, I did enjoy Split Seconds but I felt as if some of the mystery would have been a little less mysterious had I been privy to everyone’s backstory ahead of time.
Split Seconds focuses on twin sisters Tijan and Tarin. They were separated from each other at the age of two. When one sets out to find the other 27 years later, they each get more than they bargained for. One of them grew up rich in the big city while the other grew up on a modest ranch enjoying the outdoors. It’s a Country Mouse/City Mouse situation. Unfortunately, it appears that their ruthless father has surrounded himself with a lot of shady people. Consequently, the twins end up facing off against their father for which one of them never knew and other folks looking to gain their father’s wealth and status. Lives are threatened and deception runs rampant throughout the book. The challenge with all of the deception was that it was too much. There were so many twists and turns that it was hard to keep up. It felt as if Maggie overdid it. I love a good mystery but there has to be some rationality to it, and things were just too complicated. I did like the protagonists in the book, however there were just too many moving parts.
If you love a multilayered mystery, Split Seconds would be perfect for you. It’s not until the very end that all of the puzzle pieces come together. And when they do, you will be shocked and somewhat appalled by how evil and greedy some people can be.

I've read all three books in this series and each was better than the last. I have to say I'm sorry this ends it but there really doesn't seem to be any more ends to tie up. These aren't really stand alone books but they gel so beautifully you just look forward to the next. I received a copy of this book in return for a fair and honest review.
