Gladys Mouro, the author of An American Nurse Amidst Chaos 1975–1998 ( American University of Beirut, 1999), admits she is not a writer. As with anyone with a story that begs to be told, the book was born out of her unforgettable experiences of survival and devoted service during the disastrous years of Lebanon's civil war while working as a nurse at the AUB Medical Center.
this book is nearly objective account of the day to day life in Lebanese war time, picturing survival, frustration and seeking hope. To anyone who visited the AUB this diaries will mean more than that, and as in my case, if you happened to read it while you are visiting in AUBMC it will mean even more.
having said that, it's worth mentioning that Mouro is not that bright writer, the events some times are unorganized chronologically and confusing. and she repeats some ideas she have or thoughts she had over and over and over again.
anyway, I'd recommend this book to those who are interested in the history of Lebanese civil war and/or American University of Beirut (AUB), but in an interesting way.
