Will sparks fly or will she want more than he can offer?
Conner Ridge
Running a cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere doesn’t leave time to meet people. Not wanting to be alone, I made an arrangement with a friend. We're supposed to get married if we ever stop dragging our feet, but something unexpected happens—I meet her.
We couldn’t be more different if we tried. I was born to raise cattle. She was born for the finer things. So, why am I drawn to her? Is it too late to change course and listen to my heart?
Liv Meyers
I’ve spent my life fighting against expectations to be the perfect southern belle, when all I want is to find my own way. Things are on track until I lose my job, and this city girl lands herself in the middle of Minnesota.
A handsome cowboy sweeps me off my feet and it doesn’t take long to fall for him. When I discover he’s not available, it might just break me. The town sees me as an outsider, but I’ve never felt more at home. When I truly lose everything, will I make my life here or go back to the city.
I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my husband of twenty-one years and my three children. I also volunteer with youth and love to be outdoors. During the summer, I’m usually found camping or on the river in my kayak.
Wonderful scene-setting, and a really well-written look into country life.
The characters were richly thought out, each of their personalities really shown through in the writing. They all had very distinct voices.
I loved how the relationship between Liv and Conner developed organically, no insta-love or insta-lust besides their initial attraction to one another when they first met. Same goes with the friendships in the book as well as the family ties. It all flowed beautifully.
Now my reason for docking one star was because of some of the conflicts presented. There was a lot of telling not showing.
Potential spoiler: Conner’s issue with his fiancé wasn’t really formed. Harper flitted in and out of the book. Her character wasn’t as developed and while I understand their arrangement was for their mutual benefit, the character was so absent that it almost wasn’t a thing. Then it resolved itself with kind of a lackluster finish.
It was the same with Liv’s issues of being the other woman (though she really wasn’t) and how it would look to the small town of Emerson. A few mentions, then it was over.
The power in this book lies in most of its characters and their relationships. The plot was a bit thin, but nevertheless there were lots of emotions and it was still a very enjoyable read.
You can keep your Billionaire Bosses and Mafia Kingpins. I'll take Conner Ridge in blue jeans and cowboys boots any day! (Or one of his brothers for that matter). I'm a sucker for small-town romances or anything with men riding horses. This book does not disappoint. Liv and Conner are sizzling and absolutely made for each other. Do yourself a favor and add this to your library. I believe it's the author's first novel. I really hope we get to read more from her soon.
What a fantastic new Author. I could not put this love story down. I was constantly either holding back tears, smiling or just wanting to strangle someone. The characterization was right on! I could not wait for Liv and Conner to get it right. I was in there rooting right along with Liv’s Nana. The only problem is now I’m hooked on the all Ridge brothers and cant wait to grab ornery Wyatt’s story. I’m so glad I found this great series and to volunteer this review.
Small town life never looked so appealing as it did with Ms. Rose's story. This was told in a dual point of view story, meaning we got to see both the MMC and FMC's side of things, including their thoughts and feelings throughout. This story follows Liv in her journey of finding what home truly was to her after an unfortunate event at her job. Liv finds herself at her grandmother's home, a place she hadn't been in years in order to help out after her grandmother has a fall and hurts herself.
Conner is at a crossroads; one he isn't sure what to do with. Being in charge of the family ranch was his dream, but when he finds himself in an engagement of convenience with his best friend who is flighty at best - and definitely has a tendency to fly off the handle effecting all those around him at the ranch.
When Conner and Liv meet there was no way to hide the attraction; and neither of them truly could figure out if they wanted too. There were complications on both sides, but they slowly kept finding themselves together. The question was if Conner would go back on his word given to his best friend? Would Liv be willing to give up city life to live on the ranch? As a whole, however, most of the main characters had wonderful character development; and there wasn't truly that insta-love or insta-lust that we sometimes can see. This was appreciated.
There were some spicy scenes within the story, I would personally place them at a one-point-seven-five or two chili peppers out of five chili peppers. There were definitely some scenes spicier than others within the novel. This, of course, is a personal opinion meaning this may be more or less for yourself.
One of my biggest issues with the story the way some of the characters were there to drive the story - except they weren't really there. It was like the ghost that everyone talked about but no one really saw. At times that would be frustrating because you know what it is there, but at the same time you are wondering if it was truly needed or if there could have been something else to drive the story along.
I would absolutely recommend this novel to someone who was looking for a small-town romance, especially one with some hot cowboys. I devoured this book within one night, and can't wait until the next one comes out!
This was a book I chose from the stuff your kindle promo a few weeks ago. This is a sweet story with no third act break up and a pretty clear path from the beginning. A few things frustrated me - some of the dialogue felt stilted (I've noticed new authors tend to break up words that would serve better as contractions like "I will" instead of "I'll" - it flows more smoothly as a contraction and fits more realistically with the way people actually speak, but this is a thing I've picked up on with newer authors and I'm not sure why).
It was jarring at 83% finished to introduce a brand new character and have her be an integral part of the cafe's opening. You'd know from the beginning that Liv was going to take over the old ice cream shop and turn it into some sort of bakery/cafe - but this new character just gets suddenly dropped in and being a HUGE part of developing it all, after about 3 paragraphs of interaction. It was really bizarre.
Also, the author really loved the term "tippy toes" to indicate the FMC was small and needed to stand on her toes to kiss her boy. She even used it from the MMCs POV which I thought was slightly cringey. That's just a small thing, though.
Overall, I enjoyed this and hope the author continues to grow her craft. There were some typos, a few missing words, and weirdly phrased passages that I think could have been caught with a better editor.
The overall story had potential, but its construction lets it down. The “already engaged” storyline was off. There is this girl who treats him and his people like shit, doesn’t spend anytime with him, doesn’t want kids, who everyone hates and is impacting his work and home like… and he’s just like, sure, why not?!
He gets nothing out of this but seems more invested in it than she does. If they had a stronger relationship it might’ve added emotional weight to the story, especially considering she was not even straight! When the FMC hears this she even calls it “far-fetched”. I mean, if the author even knows this is off, then how am I supposed to be invested?
The overall interest of everyone on the community about their relationship is also strange, I never get that angle when it’s in romance books. The one person on the town not included in most of the book was the sudden new business partner that quickly becomes integral to the whole operation. Where did she come from?
Anyway, it’s a 2.5, not the worst I’ve read and I’ve since learned that it was the authors debut so considering that, it’s not bad.
BOOK REVIEW Finding Liv By Katina J Rose Four Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I loved how Conner and Liv first met, it was funny, him saving her from falling then watching her. I love that Liv doesn't like men helping but doesn't mind Conner helping her is cute. The connection between Conner and Liv is beautiful and really sweet. I love how everyone is kind and accepting towards Liv. Wow... what a shit way to find out about Conner being engaged.... but I seriously love how everyone from the ranch not only is being nice to her but have become her friends as well. Wow... finding out about her Nana on top of Conners secret... rough. Holy crap wasn't expecting Harper to do what she did so that Conner could be happy! Wow Livs first time with Conner and he worshiped her! From having to grieve to dealing with the stress of everything after her Nana... I love that Conner was there for it all! Oh my gosh!!! I love how she made a way for herself to stay!!! Awwwww the ring!?! Their wedding! Just perfect!!!
These two are just adorable. And Connor might be my newest book boyfriend ahhhhhhh
Such a cute story. Nana Rose has my heart. I just loved her and I’m so glad that Olivia (Liv) came home to be with her and met the gorgeous Connor.
Yes the book has some typos and could do with an edit check but I found I could forgive them (and possibly the length of the book) because I was just so in love with these two characters.
This was such a sweet small town romance book!! It’s a great book to read if you don’t want a story with a ton of drama and anguish. Easy to read and the storyline is good! I loved how it wasn’t instant love, and no one cheated on anyone.
This is a sweet story of two people lost on their own find their way with each other. Make sure you have tissues ready. The only issue I have is there are a lot of editing issues throughout the book with missing words, punctuation in the wrong spot, and spelling errors. Otherwise it is a great story.
I received an ARC of Finding Liv in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a sweet book. It’s an MF cowboy/small town romance and was done beautifully.
Liv is a city girl. When her work has complications outside her and her boss/best friends control, she goes from working and living in Georgia to Emerson, Minnesota to help her Nana after she broke her hip. She meets this super sweet guy, Connor, who’s family owns Ridge Ranch. This is the story of these two and their issues, inside themselves and outside.
The writing in this is stellar. It does have a lot of glanced over moments which I would’ve loved to have experienced instead of being told about but it didn’t take too much away from the story as a whole. Connor is a sweetheart who’s just trying to do the right thing and it may backfire a few times. I love the relationship development between him and Liv. It’s very much an attraction at first sight but they do develop themselves and their relationship throughout the story.
This is a rather emotional story at times and you may want to grab some tissues. It was perfect though. The storyline, the characters, the writing. Katina J Rose is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
***If you don’t want to know about the next book in the series and who it could be about then don’t open the below spoiler. There’s no true spoiler, but covered it in case people like to be surprised.
Lots of the favorite tropes in this sweet and mid burn steamy romance. Conner and Liv knew the moment they saw one another that something was different. There’s a lot of heart in this story, it was an enjoyable read
Loved this story . Conner and Liv's story had everything. This story made me laugh, smile and cry . The love of Liv and her gran was heartwarming and the building friendships from a city girl to small town was a favorite of mine .
Liv was so upset. Business partner robbed her and the clients blind. Her evil mother stole her inheritance. She and her dad decided spending time with her Nana was the thing to do. Unbeknown to her she would find peace, something to do with her life and find the love of her life. Conner was the neighbor to her Nana and took Livs breath away. Sparks flew the first time they met but there was a huge albatross around his neck that he had no idea what to do about it. Charming and loveable characters.
I read an early review copy of this book for an honest review.
Liv travels home to spend time with her grandmother after being away for a long time. She discovers that grandma is unwell and putting her affairs in order. Her request to deal with a building in town leads to an unexpected meeting with Conner.
Conner is attracted to Liv, but is unable to act on it due to a prior commitment. But he is truly torn between the two ladies.
Liv is unaware of Conner's internal struggle for a long time. Their internal dialogue, their thoughts and actions, all show how difficult the path to accepting and acknowledging love can be
