Today I covered many Home Readers for one of the kids school library. I always want to read one, but never end up doing so. I picked this one up as my children were full of questions last month, on the anniversary of September 11. I gave them a 'mum' version, but of course now I am wanting show them this. It's a simple description of terrorism, and then brief synopsis' of these world events, beginning with Munich 72'.
"Terrorism is violence against normal people. Terror groups want to scare people. They do this to gain power."
I think this is a good straight forward tool for kids which I will use. The language is appropriate and the delivery simple.
This was originally published 2005 and reprinted 2013, so it really needs to mention the fact that Osama bin Laden is dead. Also Bali, London and Boston were not mentioned. If this was the case, perhaps it would be simply too much bombarding them with so many horrors. Food for thought.
The book "terrorism" by Ann Weil is a great book because it gives helpful and useful information about an important topic on terrorism. This book provides helpful information about a select group of terrorist attacks that have occurred over the years. It breaks down each event into date, the people involved, and the reason why they decided to attack that certain place and why. For example on September 11th the terrorists decided to attack us because of governmental issues. It gives multiple events and is full of information. I recommend this book because of the effort the usefulness and the detail. put into this book.
