This book is a 60 day crazy ride of Enakshi in a city like Chennai where she's shortlisted for her internship. Ena chooses to pursue her internship despite her mother's futile attempts. But little does she know how the heat, her ocd, the unhygienic conditions and her boss's attitude would affect her.

Tbh, I could sense the climax way before I could read it. Nevertheless, it's safe to say that this could be your next read if you are looking for something light and simple.

This book is about our first steps to Adulting. The story moves around a girl named Ekanshi who is 25 years old (Can't miss out on that). Being is all confused about her future, takes up MBA in sales to avoid marriage, ends up doing internship in sales and had all sorts of Adventures during the same.
This book gives a realistic account of everything that goes through mind of a person who stepped out of the house for the first time. First job, terrible boss, lack of friends, lack of good collegues (Sometimes though), strict boss, different weather, anxiety and freedom - we can relate to all. I liked the way it is spelled out so clearly. Sexism faced by her is quite common at every workplace and I feel that every women out there is fighting with it and still trying to make a place for herself in this corporate world. We can all relate to a Dragon and workplace pressures. The disconnect we feel from our families or the miscommunication we might have is fueled when we stay away from them and we mostly end up feeling guilty. I liked the way Ram is potrayed in the book. Almost had a bookish crush on him. ;)
I liked the way it was presented in a subtle manner from both the kids and parents prespectives. Being a person below 25 you might sympathise with Ekanshi alone but if you are above 25 you will understand both ends - maybe you have been at both ends. The chapters are quite small and sometimes they end in single pages. It is a long read but a page turner. A light read. Good to go book.

1)Cover: It is fantastic, breezy, young, and cheerful
2)Plot: Believable, smooth
3)Writing: Aashisha holds sway over her readers and ensures they don't go away. Her Ena is going to stay in our mindspaces for a long time. Beautiful prose and awesome grip on the language. What ticked all boxes for me is the flawless execution. Absolutely no loopholes or glaring bloopers and my pet peeve—family of typos. I chuckled many times and kept down the book to ponder, in some places. Reactions of characters are very natural and easy. No cheesy lines. Loved the book!

Dislike
Aah...nothing here. But, yeah, I did feel for that poor Ram.

“Her idea of an ideal life included a clean world, clean people, clean life.”

Enakshi Chatterji exhibited Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) tendencies. Ena extorted information from her Pishi (Father’s sister) that her mother had second thoughts about her own wedding. One night when she overheard the conversation between her parents about a possible matchmaking prospect,
she cleverly evaded it by getting admission to one of the top B-Schools in the country. Her heart was doing somersaults thinking about the discos, cafes and retro bars she would visit after settling in the hostel.

After a year, the unthinkable happened.

Just as her Ma feared, she secured an internship in sales at one of the leading Telecom giants, Telescion. After the establishment of a rival Telecom company Freeno that offered free internet, her Baba felt the tremors in his daughter’s career. Of all the places in India, Enakshi ends up in Chennai. But the idea of inching closer to her mother’s past excites her. The thought of riding pillion on a male’s bike braving the raging heat of Chennai, and selling SIM cards in an unwelcoming land gave a knot in her stomach.

Mis(S)adventures of a Sales Girl narrates the shenanigans of a woman dropped out of her comfort zone in the scorching heat of Chennai. Ena’s family was a typical Bengali family that had scrumptious luchis for breakfast and where the mother is the concerned one and the father, the calm and composed one. The story portrays the problems faced by women working in the sales force and the prejudices against them in a tongue-in-cheek way. Enakshi was a verbal, intelligent woman with ambition flowing in her veins. I rooted for her, getting hot and furious when there were times she had to take the fall only because she was a woman in a male dominant industry. The chapters are short, crisp, and seamlessly change POV at the right time.

The first half of the book was slow but the storyline interlaced with subtle humour kept me going. Halfway through the book, I figured out the secret Ena relentlessly pursued.

Leaving behind a familiar place that you have known since forever and moving to an unchartered territory is not only overwhelming but can also be a daunting experience.

This is the reason why relocating is known to be anxiety provoking, as there are many challenges which will come across, even if change is inevitable, regardless of how we try to prove otherwise.

In the book, ‘Miss Adventures of A Salesgirl’ by author Aashisha Chakraborty, we see how our main protagonist Enakshi is not only struggling with fitting and adjusting in a new environment but also has to deal with competitiveness in her workplace.

One can say, right from the moment she came to this world, or rather even before she was born, Enakshi liked to fight against following pre determined notions and had a way about wanting to pave her own way.

The character of hers was very much relatable as it just takes us on a journey which most of us would have experienced or come across during some or the other point of time in our life.

Like it happens in reality, the path for our main character was not at all easy, and there were many hurdles which she had to overcome, but her strength and determination were commendable, alongwith her attitude to never give up.

To top it all off, the book also creates an aura of suspense, and the added mystery is something which has the ability to keep the readers hooked and turn the pages to find out more on what is to come. Hence I am going to give this FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Mis(s) adventures of a salesgirl” by Aashisha Chakraborty is a funny yet emotional read.

Enakshi Chatterji, a quintessential Bengali girl from Delhi is sent to Chennai for an internship through her MBA college. Once there, she learns all about the difficulties of being in the sales team. Though studying to be a manager, she gets a first-hand experience in the world of a salesperson. Trying to achieve her targets, all the while in an alien world, Enakshi befriends some of her FSEs with whom she has lip-smacking South Indian lunches. Her RSM(regional sales manager) and immediate mentor Ram, grows a liking for her. Though he makes her blush a lot, Enakshi is busy with some personal matters on her plate! When her personal and professional lives collide, it is up to her to grow up and face the truth of her entire existence.

This book gave me all the laughs and the feels. The author has represented the difficulties of sales personnels and their stress levels throughout the book, without making it dull for even a moment! I would like to recommend this book to MBA students and interns who might be going through some stressful days, but would still have a hoot while reading this book.

Hilarious books have an elite status on my reading shelf. These are the kind of books that crack me up and truly make me forget anything and everything. Awkward situations, witty dialogues and whimsical characters are the ingredients for the perfect read for me. It's been a long time since I've read such an hilarious book. Well, thanks to Mis(s)adventures of a Salesgirl, for reminding me what a humorous book should be.

Mis(s)adventures of a Salesgirl by Aashisha Chakraborty follows the tumultuous life of Enakshi, who has just relocated to Chennai from Delhi for her job as a sales intern. There begins the hilarious ride through huge changes, weird incidents and big decisions. Will Enakshi be able to battle everything and try to lead a somewhat normal life?

This book was true to the word a rollercoaster ride, where we see the main character live out scenarios that are exciting, inspiring and relatable. The main character is lovable and you bond with them instantly. The pace of the book is a bit imbalanced, fast at times and slow at others. This can be challenging for beginners.

I enjoyed the family scenes from the very beginning to the end, chuckling along with the characters. The many characters that are introduced in Chennai are quirky and add to the whimsy of it all. The author has written an easy to read book with fun dialogues and a story that will keep your attention.

Mis(s) Adventures of a Sales Girl is a terrific, fun-filled, and compelling story. Loosely based on author’s first hand experience in the telecommunication sector, it is a must read for all ages. The dialogues are crisp and to the point. The characters are very believable. The nicknames like The Dragon, Komado dragon, Pretty Awful are hilarious. Overall, it is a unique blend of humour and drama, and the reader doesn’t gets bored in even a single chapter. The author’s linguistic style is super impressive, and something an aspiring author can look forward to. The scene at the Pondy beach where Ena is riding the bike and following Pavan and Leela is the best described scene of the story, and was the highlight of the book for me.
The twist was something I didn’t see coming, and has been introduced in a sober fashion, not making it melodramatic, something I liked.
To conclude, reading this book will certainly not be a misadventure, and guarantees to turn out to be a full paisa and time wasool.

I simply enjoyed the book and finished it in just two sittings!

Mis(s)adventures of a Sales Girl revolves around the story of twenty-five year old Enakshi Chatterji, who has been sent to Chennai for her MBA internship and all of the bitter-sweet experiences she has there. It's not just that. She’ll also discover a family secret.

I loved how the author portrayed Enakshi, the main character, to be someone so relatable and far from perfect. But in the end she did prove herself to be a worthy employee of the company. Not in a cliched way of course.

I need to appreciate the fact that how easy it was to read this book. Just like a breeze. No need to check the dictionary! I personally enjoy these kinds of reads.

There’s a really cool feature of this book. That the chapters are divided into ‘sales tips’ and sometimes even ‘life tips’.

Well, the most exciting part of the book is Enakshi’s family secret which is somehow linked to Chennai. This mystery element doesn't exactly take the entire spotlight of the book. Because it's also about Ena’s adventures. It just exists in the perfect amount to keep you reading through the entire book. Loved it!

There’s one thing that I was a tiny bit disappointed about. It's that I expected the romance part to be there a little bit more. It’s not a romance book of course. Other than that it’s a refreshing read!

Favourite quote- “Time, like light, decides the way it moves around people. Sometimes, it moves in a straight line. And at times, it bends around certain obstacles to reach where it wants to reach.”

Aashisha has written an incredible book which hits the right chords while talking about the life of an MBA female student in the field of Sales. Made me nostalgic much, bringing back memories of wearing a black suit and going around the city on a bike, always dreading those loo breaks !

But what I loved most about the book was the cute love story harbouring in the background and I really hope that the author builds on Ram & Ena's story in the next part, which am eagerly waiting for !!

This book is a fresh smooth read. It is young, fun and has elements of romance, suspense and even humour . You get hooked to the book right in the beginning as the author throws in the suspense element in the first chapter itself. Despite being her debut book the author has a well developed writing style and story- telling ability: the subtility with which she shows romance/ attraction blossoming, the way the author deals with protagonist's reaction when she learns about 25 year old family secret and other aspects and emotions in story are dealt with great accuracy and perfection, something which only experienced authors can do. Definitely a must read and having read many of her other short stories, I am definitely keeping an eye on the author for her next work.

The cover image of Aashisha Chakraborty’s debut novel, ‘Mis(s)adventures of a Salesgirl’ catches the eye as the traditional Chennai landscape reveals a modernity that transports the reader straight into a story that promises to be entertaining. Shobhaa De’s endorsement adds to the feel - ‘Young and interesting’. Further praise is showered on the young author within the book by seasoned voices.
At the age of 25, the world seems one’s oyster, or so one would think. Enakshi Chatterji, a germaphobe and a bit of an introvert, has a job in an IT organization. Wanting a bit of fun and time before she is pushed on to the matrimonial bandwagon, she decides to do her MBA at the prestigious IISM.
However, when she mentions that she wants to go in for sales and marketing, her mother reacts in shock, leaving unanswered questions in Enakshi’s mind. Exactly a year later, she begins her summer internship at Telescion where she receives a jolt when she realises that she has to intern in Chennai instead of Gurgaon.
Imagine being posted to a place without knowing the language. If that were not bad enough, Enakshi finds that being a woman in a male-dominated company makes it even worse. The cherry on the cake is her OCD and her horror of anything remotely unclean. As she moves into her role, clad in formal wear, blazer included, the heat of Chennai unsettles her.
Ram Reddy, her present mentor, develops a blow hot-blow cold relationship with her, which keeps her off balance. The GBM, Mr. Nagavenkata, who is otherwise known as the Dragon, is far-removed from her, but gives Ram instructions on how to make her internship even more challenging than it already is.
Leela, Enakshi’s roommate and Pavan, an erstwhile stalker, bring in a hint of colour to Enakshi’s mundane life. However, the stress of her job proves too much. At the end of her tether, she snaps at her parents when they call up. There is a 25-year-old mystery concerning her mother that she wants to solve, and she takes the support of her best friend, Ankita, to do so. As Enakshi battles it out, determined to finish her internship and end her Chennai stint once and for all, she begins to slowly understand that she has to do things differently to make an impact. By the end of her three months, she realises she has finally ‘adulted'.
Aashisha Chakraborty has nailed the emotions and the angst of a young intern stuck in the wrong place. The narrative is peppered with sales tips, starting with “Learn the local language” and “Speak the local language for God’s sake” to “Keep your temper in check” and “Use jugaad”. Her subtle sense of humour comes through at various places in the book.
“Ena was a private person, as private as a person could possibly get without turning into a character from Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude.”
“She was young and pretty. Pretty Awful.” (A lady in the HR Department)
Aashisha Chakraborty’s debut novel is a breezy read, with Enakshi garnering much sympathy in the heart of the reader. The author’s triumph is in the fact that nowhere, despite all her trials and tribulations, does Enakshi come across as a defeatist or a loser.
The following lines particularly resonated within me as I read the book. Maybe because I too believe how true they are.
“Time, like light, decides the way it moves around people. Sometimes, it moves in a straight line. And at times, it bends around certain obstacles to reach where it wants to reach.”

Navigating the turbulent seas of sales and secrets is not easy, but Aashisha Chakraborthy has managed it with panache in her debut novel the Mis(s) Adventures of a Salesgirl. The tale follows the life of Enakshi Chatterji, a twenty-five-year-old thrust into the fiercely competitive and male-dominated realm of sales in Chennai, a world far removed from her cosmopolitan upbringing in Delhi. Language barriers, gender biases, and a hidden family secret set the stage for a rollercoaster ride through her professional and personal pursuits.

The narrative unfolds in two distinct halves. The first is a slow burn, setting the stage and introducing the challenges Enakshi faces. The pace picks up significantly in the second half, transforming into an emotional page-turner. As Enakshi grapples with the intricacies of her job, her world is further complicated by a troubling family secret that haunts her. Chakraborty deftly weaves this suspenseful thread into the plot, adding depth and drama to the story.

The book sheds a revealing light on the obstacles women encounter in male-dominated professional spheres. Enakshi's journey reflects the reality of battling sexual advances, language barriers, and prevailing stereotypes. However, while the hardships are portrayed authentically, the book somewhat conveniently orchestrates Enakshi's triumphs. The specifics of her rise above these challenges remain somewhat ambiguous, leaving the reader yearning for a deeper understanding of her success.

In terms of narrative elements, the book houses two distinct romantic subplots. The first, though a cliché, is endearing, adding sweetness to the tale. The second, revolving around her mother's past, takes a dramatic and engaging turn, weaving emotions and suspense into the narrative. The dual narrative arcs provide a dynamic and engaging reading experience.

Chakraborty leaves the reader tantalized with an open-ended conclusion, hinting at the potential for a sequel. This leaves room for the imagination to wander, contemplating the future escapades of Enakshi Chatterji.

A standout feature of the book is Chakraborty's eloquence with words. She crafts profound reflections on time and its influence on human interactions, leaving the reader with much to ponder. My favourite line from the book encapsulates this sentiment: "Time, like light, decides the way it moves around people. Sometimes, it moves into a straight line. And at times, it bends around certain obstacles to reach where it wants to reach."

In conclusion, "Mis(s) Adventures of a Salesgirl" provides a glimpse into the demanding world of sales, illuminating the challenges faced by women within it. Aashisha Chakraborty's narrative, though slightly imbalanced in pace, captivates with its dramatic turns and authentic portrayal of a woman's struggle for success in a male-dominated industry. My rating for the book is 4.2/5. It is a stimulating contemporary read, promising intrigue and the hope of future revelations.

Not to be mis(s)ed!

So, what happens when your worst-case scenario becomes reality? How many times can you pinch yourself before you realise that it cannot be avoided?

That is what we learn from ‘Mis(s) Adventures of a Sales Girl’ by debutant author, Aashisha Chakraborty.

Twenty-five-year-old Enakshi, a resident of Delhi, is a top-MBA student seeking placement news from the placement agency at her premier institute. Her mother is appalled when she learns that Enakshi has chosen ‘Sales and Marketing’ as her choice, and is appeased when Ena, as she is known, mollifies her that she would be the manager who would not be expected to run around making sales.

How fate must have giggled then! Enakshi lands a job for the next two months, not in Gurgaon as she had expected but in sweltering Chennai. And it was a sales job! She would have to visit different areas in a bid to promote the SIM cards her company sold.

Lost in a city where she didn’t speak the local language and is expected to generate a spike in sales while travelling double-seat on bikes is how Enakshi’s life plays out. The only oasis in the desert is Ram, her mentor, but he, like the desert, blows hot and cold simultaneously. With a boss who hates her, a job she cannot fathom, and a city that doesn’t understand her (and vice versa) describe how Ena’s life plays out.

Aashisha has brought out the girl-on-bike in a sales-driven job beautifully. The agony of not drinking too much water in summer, because, well, one needs to use the facilities, contrasted with lack of water during summer will cause dehydration, is something most women can relate! And with Ena being a germaphobe, not just any bathroom won’t do! Ena’s experiences of dealing with an unfamiliar (might I say, mildly unhelpful) city to do a job that requires a close connection with the locals rings true, and I felt for the young girl!

The book has a running thread where Ena’s mother, Rupa’s dark past is hinted at, and it all unravels towards the end, and this is where I felt the first stirring of a tad bit of unhappiness, but it sits well for a sequel that I am hoping that Aashisha is frantically typing on her laptop!

What I felt the book needed more was Ram-Ena's scenes and how they fell in love. Their ‘romance’ paled in front of the other realistic portrayal of Ena’s life.

When Ram ruminates over these lines, he steals my heart. (Well, it was already stolen by him when he first made his entrance, but you get what I am trying to say!)

Time like light, decides the way it moves around people. Sometimes, it moves in a straight line. And at times, it bends around certain obstacles to reach where it wants to reach.

Aashisha, I demand the next book. Fast! Please 😊

Verdict: If you are in the mood for a quick, gripping book that depicts reality, pick up ‘Mis(s) Adventures of a Sales Girl’ ASAP

How does a young person deal with a life that gives them only rotten lemons in baking heat?

Haven’t heard of Aashisha Chakraborty? You should probably get acquainted with her right now, because *my goodness* does this young novelist know how to write a book to keep you arrested. (There’s a ton more stuff on her website, and a ton more awards up her belt.) This is something you’ll want to hold on to long after you’re no longer young. I may have connected a bit too much with Mis(s)adventures of a Salesgirl myself. Three reasons: I (a) am a Bong, like the author, who (b) has mostly lived in Chennai, unlike her, and (c) am of the age when parental pressure starts to really get to you at the best of times, regarding what exactly you are supposed to do with your life.

Even if you don’t tick any of those boxes, I think this is a wonderfully crafted novel with all the right trappings that hold your breath throughout the ride, and leave you gasping for more — with our fiery storyteller, Enakshi, or Ena, being your somewhat unconventional but completely relatable guide for the journey. We’ve all been in her place: amidst endless cries of ‘Why me?’ and ‘This is SOOO not fair’, we’ve had to soul-search and figure out life until, one day, it doesn’t seem so bad after all.

From the word go, it seems like Enakshi couldn’t have had a worse roll of the dice: her internship ends up with a telecom company, as a salesgirl (which her mother had warned her against), in the sultry, baking summer of Chennai, where nary a soul speaks anything but ‘Tamizh theriyadha?!’ (You don’t know Tamil?!), in a condescending tone — and her ruthless managers make it no easier, treating her like a complete disposable wrapper. This is her fate in this boys’ club for a whole two months, as every field executive from OMR to Pondy Bazaar to Adyar makes her wish to be very far, far, far. Then there’s the small matter of finding out who exactly her father is, and how much her aunt’s whispering rumours have truth in them.

Despite the odds all stacked against her, this girl is a fighter by nature, and doesn’t let anything come her way without taking the bull by the horns. Slowly, the cocoon of self-doubt starts to peel away, with the constant encouragement of people like Ram, her immediate superior; Leela, her cool 35-year-old roommate; and Pavan, an old friend who has been constantly misunderstood and mistreated by her. Sample this: ‘They, whom Ena had successfully held back for so long, under so many circumstances, fell. The salty wet ones. The ones they call tears.’ I can’t think of many descriptions of someone’s sense of repentance for their behaviour that hit harder than this one. I think both Aashisha and Enakshi have run away with my heart and soul with this phenomenal book!

Book: Mis(s) Adventures Of A Salesgirl
Author: Aashisha Chakraborty
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Publisher: Rupa Publication
Pages: 256

Mis(s) Adventures of a sales girl by Aashisha Chakraborty is a contemporary fiction story of Enakshi Chatterji aka Ena. Born and brought up in Delhi, she was sent to the Chennai headquarters of Telescion, a telecommunications company for her internship for an MBA. And there comes another twist, she wanted to be on a marketing team, but was placed to be in the sales! A single girl in the sales team, working between all the colleagues in a field where people think there is no place for a girl, who doesn’t know a word in Tamil and this is the place where everyone prefers speaking their mother tongue, and on top of that, some secrets of her family are coming on her way! How is she going to manage all of it? Read the book to know about it!

As a debut book, Aashisha Chakraborty has done a great job! Written in such engaging language and plot from the starting itself, the book deals with many themes altogether! From sex ratio in the workplace as the main theme, it deals with the problem that arises when a girl finds her way on the road not taken, or to say, the road the society does not want them to take! It talks about freedom, the career, behind the scenes of a journey, the family dynamics and the relationship, the OCD (Obsessive–compulsive disorder), and much more that if I tell would be a spoiler! I genuinely liked how the author explored the journey of Ena and through the course of the story, of her mother Rupa as well, which was something that has been presented beautifully. Also, the way things unfold at the end was remarkable and the author deserves appreciation for it. The pinch of humor at some places in the story was really good and to the point. Also, the cover goes very well with the book and I like it!

The only thing that I felt needed to be tackled a little better was a scene in the story. Although talking about it in depth would be a spoiler here, so I would just say that I understand why it is presented that it was because it happens in real, but if the closure could have been given to it, could have led to a better message for the readers.

I will recommend it to everyone who is looking forward to reading something different and breaking the monotony of any genre and enjoying this wonderful writing. I would give it 4/5 stars!

"Time, like light, decides the way it moves around people. Sometimes, it moves in a straight line. And at times, it bends around certain obstacles to reach where it wants to reach."
~ Aashisha Chakraborty, Miss Adventures of a Sales Girl.

#qotd What does the world of Sales mean to you?
I personally had a very common perspective like any other people. I thought it to be a very male dominated profession. I even believed that the hassle a sales person has to go through is not a cup of tea. Well it is definitely not a cup of tea but it is not only a man's job for sure!!

Aashisha Chakraborty is such a talented writer and a very sweet person. She has a charming aura which reflects in her work as well. Her book Miss Adventures of a Sales Girl is a definite strike to the abominable thoughts of our society. She has taken a major part of the space to point out the stuffs we look down upon!

The story revolves around Enakshi Chatterjee who is a resident of Delhi. She is a MBA intern who get first gig in a company called Telescion. The office is in Chennai and she moves there. Here starts her new life accompanied by her new struggles. Our author has beautifully pen pictured a real life situation when Enakshi had to go to remote places for her job, use unsanitary restrooms. We see her dodging several difficulties to keep up with the Boss Dragon's expectations. We also get to meet Ram, a compassionate human who tries his best to support her. Apart from Enakshi's professional life, we also get to know about her personal life.

This book is very near to reality. It has got several dynamics of a person's professional and personal life. Enakshi is presented as a typical modern day woman who gets her work done no matter what but also tries to cope up with the emotional turmoil. Her expression to each situation is very relatable and her character has a great development in the story.

One great thing about this story is that it is less confusing as there are limited characters. Though each of them are very relatable and unique. The varied character shades used by our author is mentionworthy! Apart from that, the plot is no doubt a great one. It has the perfect amount of flavours which didn't make the dish over the top. The space which has been given to us to feel the story and express is a fact worth talking about! The lucid language is soothing and makes it fast paced. Definitely recommended to all.

Our workplaces are rife with opportunities for storytelling. Sometimes reading about someone who's had a bad day at work just like you did, can be a great stress buster. And that exactly was what what Aashisha Chakraborti's debut novel Mis(s)adventures of a Sales Girl, did for me.

The book is a fictional take on the challenges of being a woman in sales. A compelling story that brings out the complexity and unwavering potential of women at the workplace. Written with precision and a sly sense of humor, the trials and travails of Enakshi, the protagonist, a young sales intern reminded me of my early days as I kick started my career in the IT industry. Though the industry and the type of role were starkly different, Aashisha's thoughts on gender, hardship, identity, friendship, love and sanity expressed through the thoughts and actions of her protagonist left me with a sense of contentment, amazement and power.

As a reader, you follow Enakshi on a hilarious journey as she attempts to navigate the ups and downs of a sales job, her battles with with language barrier, casual sexism, unwelcome advances, hygiene complications, all of this happening in Chennai's sweltering weather! And the bits that dive deep into Enakshi's heart and mind are really layered and captures the nuances of the character well. I think the author manages to deliver an unforgettable character and a story full of perfect shenanigans, one that is absolutely worth a read if you are in need of a raw depiction of the female plight in the sales industry and the spirit of a woman who is out to make something of herself.

I think I could have more of Enakshi and her quirkiness and spunk ! It would be great to see what happens with Enakshi next, for there's enough in the book for the story to continue, for the protagonist to face new challenges. I would say a sequel isn't a bad idea! But for now, I would highly recommend that you check the book out for a breezy, heartwarming read over the weekend.

The novel is about a Bengali origin girl Enakshi raised in Delhi who accidentally ends up in Chennai for her internship. The story kicks off with a brief family background of Ena, her loving living and raising, and how she weights the choices she has got to make. Blink and you might miss an important event which turns up during the climax.

While it is typically difficult for a Delhite to adapt to the demanding Chennai, it is more pronounced for a girl. Compound it with the shocking relevation that Ena has to literally understand the life and times of a salesperson wherein the number of females in the sales profession of her telecom company is restricted to the singleton herself. It is one thing to be in 'Sales unit' and entirely different to be directly associated with the real sales. The sales are supposedly to happen when the the SIM card of her company comes with a fixed cost for limited data while the competitor is literally dishing out sim cards freely with unlimited data.

Oh, by the by, have you seen how sales girls are treated by the regular customer base? And also in the corporate world? You know it.

Add to the mix, an ex-colleague, yes colleague and not lover/friend, trails Ena like a shadow. Her parents call her every hour to keep up with her 'progress'. The boss and super-boss have more than one interest in the new intern and the focus is not just restricted towards the conversion of the internship into a regular employment offer. And then there is a past mystery which follows Ena until either it gets solved, or it solves/fixes Ena for good.

How can there not be misadventures then? The debut novel of Aashish is more than a story because it exposes the different frailties of not merely Ena and the people around her, it subtly shows the mirror, and the truth reflector device holder is not merely the wall, the wicked queen, or even Snow White. It's all about us without being called out.

Great one!!!

The story follows Enakshi Chatterji of New Delhi, who applies for a mid year entry level position at Telescion, and is posted in Chennai, very distant from her batchmates. Her own life is wrecked: her auntie referenced about her mom's easygoing excursion in Tamil Nadu when she was on a dance visit with her gathering, not long before her marriage. Her expert life doesn't leave a wiggle room, as she is given the undertaking to study, make due, and gather information about the Telescion administrations and retails all over Chennai. Subsequently starts her triumph of day to day bicycle rides under the singing sun, around individuals who consider her unfit for what she's doing (getting into the business field), and all that Enakshi realizes in Tamil will be 'Tamil teriyada'.
A staggering cut of-life, Mis(s)adventures of a Salesgirl is a should peruse. I love the amazing way the hero grew up all through her entry level position period. Enakshi doesn't pine for friendship, yet equivalent ground to address herself. There are times when I felt the most associated with her, and this was astonishing on the grounds that the last time I connected with a fictitious person, I was 12 and perusing Percy Jackson. Slam, her informal tutor was one great person, and fundamentally a 'man composed by a lady', thus the straightforward and significant effect Smash had on me. The chief, Naga N., is flippantly called Mythical beast, and there's one more high profile director once in a while alluded to as 'Komodo Winged serpent' which was entertaining. In spite of the fact that there were times I was confounded between these two in light of such comparative monikers, it didn't hinder my understanding experience.
The book is filled to the edge with humor, and life. An extraordinary book by Aashisha Chakraborty, it is a should peruse and I feel compelled to weight on its excellence as much as possible.

Miss Adventures of a Salesgirl by Aashisha Chakraborty is an entertaining and engaging book which tells the story of Enakshi – a young girl who has high expectations from her life. She is your typical Delhi girl – full of life and swagger. But she is assigned her internship at Chennai – so from the North she goes straight to the South.
As if this was not enough, when other interns are doing their job from the comfort of their cubicles and in air-conditioned offices, she is thrown into the sales and is asked to visit the distributors and retailers of the telecom company for which she is doing her internship in the scorching heat of Chennai. In a male-dominated field of sales, she has to establish herself and prove herself. Now, add one more hurdle – she has no idea and does not know a single word of their language. To add to her misery, her boss seems hot and cold and it makes her more frustrated.
As if pulling the last straw, her personal life is in jeopardy when she doubts that her mother has some past which has a connection in Chennai and which her family has kept a secret from her till this date. Will she survive for two whole months in these excruciating circumstances? Is there an end to her miseries? Will she be able to prove herself or she is bound to fail? To know the answers, you will have to read this captivating story.
I enjoyed reading about the journey of Enakshi. She symbolizes the whole strong and determined women fraternity. Still, they have to toil hard to establish themselves in a male-dominated world. The story also captures the nuisances of sales and the lives of salespersons. Readers will be able to easily relate with the Enakshi, her expectations, her frustrations, her grit and her determination. The entire crew of this story is memorable. So, if you enjoy reading such fulfilling stories, don’t miss this one.

Aashisha Chakraborty's uproariously entertaining novel, "Miss Adventures of a Salesgirl." From the very beginning, you'll be whisked away to a world brimming with eccentric characters and moments that will have you bursting with laughter.

Get acquainted with Enakshi Chatterji, a young woman bursting with dreams and aspirations. However, her path takes an unexpected turn when she is uprooted from the familiarity of Delhi and thrust into the chaos of Chennai as a sales intern. But this is no ordinary internship, and Enakshi's misadventures in this fiercely competitive and male-dominated sales territory will keep you in stitches.

As Enakshi navigates her way through a world where her cosmopolitan upbringing clashes hilariously with local customs and the fact that she doesn't speak a word of Tamil, the result is a whirlwind of comical events that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Enakshi's journey takes an even wilder turn when a long-lost family secret resurfaces, plunging her into a tornado of self-destruction. From an unconventional weekend getaway with a persistent admirer to an eventful movie date with her boss, Enakshi's escapades will leave you in fits of laughter.

Amidst the chaos, Enakshi faces a multitude of challenges, including unwanted advances, language barriers, male chauvinism, hygiene predicaments, and the scorching Chennai sun. Through her witty writing and uproarious situations, Chakraborty skillfully exposes the harsh realities of relationships, work, and life. Enakshi's journey serves as a powerful reminder that she is much more than just a salesgirl – she is a resilient force to be reckoned with.

One liner : Try at your own risk

Synopsis : Enakshi Chatterji, a 25 year old Delhi born and bred MBA student is placed as an intern in a telecom company Telescion. Most of the interns who go there are placed in and around Delhi or Gurugaon. To Enakshi's utter horror, she is being sent to Chennai for her internship. Her Ma is not very enthused with this idea. Enakshi who knows that her mom has a secret to keep about her stint in Chennai during a dance troupe performance, decides to go to Chennai to figure out what her mom's secret was? Rest of the story follows Enakshi's journey in Chennai as an intern

My thoughts
* The story started off well with some witty dialogues but went downhill pretty fast.
* The core subject of a woman being in sales, a totally male dominated domain and exceeding in that could have been utilized so well. But the author did not make use of this. Instead, the story veered off in every possible direction.
* The chapter titles have been named intelligently.
* The writing is not a very strong suit (at least I felt so). The author really needs to learn how to spell. Simple google search helps you with spellings. Spelling a major South Indian language is not acceptable (It is Telugu and not Telegu). Not sure how the author and the editor let it slide.
* There are lot of spelling errors and missed punctuations. Not sure how the editor was so lax to overlook all this
* Not sure if the author has a personal animosity against Chennai, but the portrayal of a major South Indian city famous for it's rich cultural aspects was a big bummer. She has a cliched way of portraying the city just for its weather (Its not like Delhi is in a Scandinavian nation!)
* The protagonist Enakshi comes across as a entitled, spoilt brat. I just couldn't relate to her. The way she treated her father and mother when she was angry was not acceptable
* The book is all about stereotyping the South of India. The author could have done without this

All in all, this book was a big bummer for me
My rating 2*

"People grow up at their own pace. Some have the misfortune of missing their childhoods and grow up sooner than their time. While some take their own sweet time to reach a certain mental age where they might have reached chronologically and physically a long time ago."

When twenty-five-year-old Enakshi Chatterji is uprooted from Delhi and sent to Chennai to work as an intern in the fiercely competitive and heavily male-dominated territory of sales, she is unprepared for the grinder she is put through.
Even more challenging is the family secret that comes back to haunt her in this alien city.
Will Enakshi be able to battle all that is thrown at her and emerge victorious?

Inspired from her personal experiences, Chakraborty takes you on a crazy journey wherein her protagonist attempts to find her footing on the first rung of the corporate ladder while determined to get to the bottom of a family secret she has only heard faint whispers of.

Mis(s) Adventures of a Sales Girl is exactly as the title (which I thought was a fantastic play of words) suggests. Following a frustratingly repetitive routine, Enakshi grows to realise the challenges of being on the service-providing end which makes her more empathetic to others like her while also training her to become a better judge of character.

Enakshi’s mis(s) adventures include a realistic mix of comedy multiplied by corporate humour, romance, and suspense. A hilarious coming-of-age story, this is bound to be enjoyed by those having just taken their first steps outside the cocoon of comfort and familiarity, or preparing to step out.

Aashisha’s Chakraborty’s Mis(s)adventures of a Salesgirl is a fun, quirky, immensely enjoyable, and unputdownable read. I finished reading the book in one go. It took me back to my B-school days and brought back memories of internships, accommodations, and adjusting to a new city.
The book revolves around the central character of twenty-five-year-old Enakshi, who lives in Delhi and pursues her MBA in a prestigious business school. She has secured a summer internship with a telecom giant but is horrified that unlike her peers, she has been posted in Chennai.
A day into the job, Enakshi realizes that she is a fish out of water. She sets off in the sweltering Chennai heat to visit outlets and interact with shopkeepers, without knowing a word of Tamizh, which proves to be the biggest roadblock in her stint. Ena’s adventures, or rather misadventures, form the rest of the story.
What I liked the best is the realistic portrayal of field sales. Sales has always been a male-dominated field making many a girl like Ena the subject of male chauvinism, misogyny, and in some cases misconduct. The book touches upon the issues, though is never preachy. You can’t help falling in with the elfin Ena, who shows that she can pack in a mighty punch too. Ena’s boss, Ram is her potential love interest. I only wish there were more romantic moments between them.
There is a humungous twist towards the end that sets the stage for the sequel, a book I eagerly look forward to.
My favorite lines from the book:
Time like light decides the way it moves around people. Sometimes, it moves in a straight line. And at times, it bends around certain obstacles to reach where it wants to reach.
For lovers of light, breezy, quirky reads; this is one is for you!
