Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
It's unreal how many stars this story has. I groaned at the quote right up front: "'Do not forsake your friend.'---Proverbs 27:10." Really? Is that necessary? In a series as saccharine as this? This book might've been almost bearable (ha! See what I did there) if not for Cousin Fred (and his BRILLIANT memorization skills) deciding to spout a wholly unnecessary Biblical quote: "You know what the Bible says: 'Wounds from a friend can be trusted.'" Why do this? Why go this route and alienate an entire non-Christian audience? The quote and its explanation really don't even make sense in this context at all. Blech.
Faithful Friends is the story of two best friends, Sister and Lizzy, who do everything together until a new cub, Suzy, comes to town. Suzy doesn’t have any friends, and when Sister invites Suzy to join her friends what starts off as fun soon turns jealousy. Thankfully Brother helps Sister see how to fix the mess she’s created and keep her friends, both old and new! A sweet story about friendship that is good for children of all ages. Jan and Mike Berenstain make a wonderful team creating not only the story, but the easy to recognize artwork as well.
Faithful Friends is a great story in the typical Berenstain Bear's style. Sister bear learns what to do when a her friend, Lizzy Bear, gets jealous of her time spent with a new girl. This short story with the lovable bears has a Biblical twist to it including Bible verses. It is a neat way to entertain and teach at the same time.
Lizzy gets jealous when Sister spends a bit of time playing with Suzy and Sister wants to let her know that Lizzy is always going to be her best friend. This is a useful book for children to teach them not to abandon their old friends because a new friend has good ideas for games to play. Another decent read.
I thought this book was very interesting and great for kids. Had a very good messages, that all children could learn from. With saying that I also found that it was a little lengthy, the Three year old I was reading to couldn't stay still long enough for me to finish it. But I would recommend it.
