When net galley and the publisher don't approve my request to read the arc of this book I feel disappointed and felt like a worthless reader. (I requested once and been denied so I'm not going to repeat the experience. Feeling bitter, hahaha). For a time, I don't want to read. But the experience can be forgotten in time. (Still bitter, hehe).
Anyway, this book is good. Better good that it's precedence. The only thing that worries me in this particular book is Kendra becomes a little bitch (given her character is light). Or maybe because her character has undergone a lot of pressure that's why it leans toward negativity.
Some points are raise like animal hunting and deforestation which causing our world to be imbalance. Which leads to a point that we can teach our children how to plant trees or to take care of animals or just simply knowing that slaughtering for sports or deforestation for cropping has a big effect on the ecosystem.
Cooperation, critical thinking, kindness and sacrifice are some of the lessons that can be learn on this one.
Why 3 star??? It's just because it's an okay flow, lots of characters that you tend to forget the names, and the big question that still I want to ask is where is the wrath of the dragon King as the title suggest? All they did here is to attend a feast, the dragons declare war, they travel through the road, then leads to a capture, imprisonment, talking to animals, meeting someone in the past, travel to someplace and meeting some ancient, animals with wings, go to a castle and play a centuries old game and then banish. Where is the WRATH OF THE DRAGON KING??? Oh I just summarize the book... Gosh!!!
Enjoy the book it's fun I hope to see Seth... In a more darker character on the next. After all, whatever happens, even if you forget everything your true self will always shine. 😊

November 9, 2018Okay everyone. I finished it. I finished it and I'm crying. Are you happy now? I need the third book stat. That cliffhanger was worse than Percabeth in Tartarus. I'm not even kidding. I feel like my heart was ripped out of my freaking chest. Goodbye cruel world.

Post-Preview Review
You know what? I predicted that I would be angry at myself for requesting the preview when I knew it was only the first few chapters, but I did it anyway! and I was right. There is no physical way I can wait for the month of October, because after the first two chapters this book hit its groove and I was SO ENTHRALLED. Though this small preview didn’t really evoke the same feelings as when I’m reading the original Fablehaven (and maybe it’s not supposed to), it’s still so so valid. I still wish Kendra and Seth were older in this one.
We got to FINALLY meet some of my faves from the original Fablehaven series, I won’t say who because of spoilers, but I’m still waiting to see my ultimate fave,,,,, p l e a s e let him be in the other parts of this book. Brandon Mull I’ll give you anything.
And I mean, honestly, if this series had come out three or four years ago I would have wanted a well-written, intricately plotted series but at this point my standards are so low that all I want is canon LGBT characters and fan service. I feel like I’ll get the latter and I can only cross my fingers on the former. But, it does look like this series will have a good storyline, and that makes my book lover heart happy.
Kendra and Seth’s character strengths and differences really stood out in this preview, and so did Knox and Tess’s. There’s a part right in the first two pages of the preview where Marat’s like “Seth you gotta find someone to train you as a shadow charmer,” and Seth’s like “but WHO,” (and wow these are not direct quotes I hope you know that) and all I could do was look into the camera like
Also RAXTUS my poor son. He has done nothing wrong. Does he know that I love him?? Raxtus deserves better and I’m a lil mad at Kendra and Seth for treating him so wrongly ngl.
The only thing I didn’t like in this preview was the fact that a description for a bowl of soup is “gooey, creamy, punishment.” what the f**k. Someone’s either never had soup before or has only ever had really, really good soup aksdjsdfk. I hope to God that’s changed in the final edition like,,,,, please.
It’s also extremely BOLD of this book to assume that I care at all about Bracken. I don’t ship Brackendra and honestly, I couldn’t give a single heck about whether Bracken is okay or not. Maybe it’s just me, but all I want is for Kendra and Seth toboth be gay date actual humans that are their actual ages??? I feel like it’s not too much to ask?? Please no more setting them up with immortals??? P L E A S E??!?!?!?!?
But in the end, this was an explosive preview that makes me even more excited for the book to come out in October. Though this series may be an entirely different adventure than the one in Fablehaven, it still brings together the blend of politics, philosophy, character arcs and world-building that I’ve come to expect from Brandon Mull’s books. Even though all I want is for Kendra and Seth to be happy (and go to school, like, is Kendra ever going to graduate high school??), I can wait for a little longer for this fun and surprisingly intense series.

PLEASE for the love of God bring the Sphinx back. He’s everyone’s fave morally-grey anti-villain and he deserves a redemption arc. I could go so far into why the Sphinx is a good person at heart but I feel like that would derail my review.

I love the world of Fablehaven. It's so mysterious and with every book Brandon Mull brings out more and more mysteries, more characters (some interesting and some not so interesting) and more action. Dragons, demons, wraiths, phantoms, unicorns, giants, fairies and now a dark unicorn, my interest was piqued even though I didn't much like Dragonwatch.
This starts off slow and picks up somewhere around the middle. Kendra and Seth go to the feast organised by the Dragon King, Celebrant. Celebrant tries to trap and capture them so that he can be made a sole caretaker of the sanctuary but Kendra and Seth with the help of some of their allies are saved. But things get interesting when Patton Burgess returns which is always good and full of action and we witness a festival night but from inside a castle that has an ancient curse. A lot of mysteries unlock along the way and some other more interesting mysteries arise.
I liked the second half of the book as it has a lot more action and one thing leads to the other. I wish there was more to do with dragons and Rextus was there for only half a second. Grandparents were non-existent and the parents weren't even in the picture even after all this. This has been a consistent with this world from Brandon Mull. Bracken keeps getting captured. Kendra still gets to save the day even though she doesn't want to. Seth annoyed me a little in the beginning but my heart went out for him in the end. He lost all his memories and then gets kidnapped in the end. I feel for him more than his grandparents I think. And the cousins, I don't even know what to say about them. Newel and Doren as usual put a smile to my face. Tanu never gets enough credit. Calvin is always helpful and brave. Overall, I enjoyed the book better than Dragonwatch.

Oh my god. OH MY GOD. OOOOOOHHHHHH MYYYYY GAWD! The cliffhanger in this book was as bad/good (depending how you look at it) as the one in the Mark of Athena. I never thought I would see a cliffhanger match up to that one. Why? Why Brandon Mull? Why do you have to do this to me? I don’t even know when the next one will come out.
As for the rest of the book, I found the first two thirds kind of boring. There was little to no action from that part and no real feeling of a threat. A lot of characters were brought in but they were not developed well enough to make me care about them. I thought I would care about Knox, who was brought in, but he did not keep my attention.
However, the last 100 pages of the book made up for the lackluster of the first two-thirds. Kendra and Seth’s predicament during those pages put me through an intense rollercoaster. I would gasp out loud and the people near me would give me weird looks.
Kendra, although cautious, sort of reminds me of myself. Seth’s wit and humor carry the book along. He has to be my favorite character. Although I love how strong Kendra is, Seth is the one who has shown real character development. He has definitely grown and matured from the last series and has shown that he learned from his mistakes. He’s still adventurous but is now more responsible and his sense of self-sacrifice is admirable.
Together, these siblings make the perfect brother-sister combo. We don’t often get to see a dynamic like that in other young adult books.
I truly cannot wait for the next book and the rest of the series. I’ll be done with college by the time the series finish. But who cares? Mull’s stories will entertain me no matter what age I am.

If you love wildly imaginative story and world building. If you love coming of age stories and all the glorious tropes that come with them. If you are 32 with the maturity level of a 12 year old (wich I am!). If you love reading to your kids and over acting all the characters (wich I do!). Then you absolutely have to check out the fablehaven series. Thank me later.

This book was so disappointing. It had such promise too, and seems more like the original Fablehaven series in parts. But I can’t get over how things ended in Stormguard Castle.
Another disappointing aspect was how little role their allies played. In Fablehaven, we came to know and love so many great characters; Warren, Tanu, Coulter, and Vanessa to name a few. In this series, their companions serve little purpose, and barely even speak. Tanu is relegated to little more than a chaperone, Knox is basically a copy of Seth and therefore pointless, Lomo is pretty unremarkable, and Calvin (who had a pretty interesting role in the first book) is barely a blip on the radar. Almost all of them could be removed, and the plot wouldn’t be affected much. To say nothing of Raxtus or Grandma and Grandpa Sorenson.
I loved the first Fablehaven series. I’ve reread it several times, both alone and with my kids. I’d hoped this book and the series it’s connected to would be just as magical. But after a disappointing two out of five, I don’t hold out much hope.

I recommend reading the first Dragonwatch before this book (and the Fablehaven series before that). Here, we have Celebrant challenging Kendra and Seth’s authority as caretakers. His underhandedness endangers our heroes, so there’re big adventures in this book. It’s very creative and engaging with fully developed characters. Pacing and suspense are good.
So far, all the books have depicted a scene from the book on the cover. However, the art on this book is not anything from the book. There is a flying bunny, but it does not do battle with a dragon avatar.
It does end on a cliffhanger. Everything seemed to be going well, and then BAM! Several not-good things happen at the end.
Fortunately, I have the next book waiting on the shelf. Unfortunately, I have to read some other books first.

The ending...
I think I might be actually dead so I'm just going to hide in the corner for a little bit until I can stop screaming. I loved the book but I really need the next one NOW. If you haven't read the book yet, save yourself the pain and wait until the next one comes out, then read this one. Forgetting the ending for a moment, it is a great book. This book moves a little bit slower than some of Mull’s other books. The plot is still engaging it just isn’t action-packed and spends more time talking about/with the characters. That isn’t a negative thing for me, I grew up with these characters so I really like spending more time with them. If you haven't read it yet you definitely should (as soon as the next book comes out).

I have been following Kendra and Seth's adventures for almost ten years, I'm now twenty, and yet I never seem to outgrow these characters or stop finding them interesting. This series holds such a special place in my heart. I was weary going into both this book and it's predecessor because spin off series in general make me nervous, I was terrified I wasn't going to like it as much as I did the original series, but there is something so fresh and new about this continuation that it holds the same place in my heart.
The Setting
Once again this book takes place primarily at Wrymroost, one of the Dragon Sanctuaries, and a magical preserve so intense that it makes Fablehaven look like a petting zoo. We really get to see more of the preserve in this book, even more then what was revealed in Fablehaven 4. I loved seeing more of Terrabelle, and I found the realm of the talking animals very cool as well. I also loved seeing more of the dragon's castle, and the Bewildered was so fascinating as well!
The Characters
Seth and Kendra are really starting to grow up (finally) they've been the same age for the past four books, which is the only grievance I have of this book. I really feel like they've grown though. The decision Seth makes at the end!! was so unlike him, and was incredibly shocking. I did not see that coming at all. I also feel like Kendra really starts to come into her own and is more confident with her abilities as well.
We see some of the secondary characters in this book as well. Tanu is one of my favorites, I've had a soft spot for him since the second Fablehaven book. Also, it was so cool to see Patton again, I absolutely adore him. He is definitely one of my favorite characters.
Calvin, the giant nipsie is also such a fascinating character. I love the dynamic he and Seth have and I'm curious to see how the ending is going to affect Calvin in future books.
I have to admit, Knox isn't my favorite, but I do think there is some potential for him to prove himself in later books.
The Plot
This book does contain some elements that we've seen in previous Fablehaven novels, such as a booby trapped tower, and magical items, but the odds felt so much different this time around. The villain is so up close and personal that I'm rooting for Kendra and Seth so much more this time around. I also really liked how the plot followed the characters through Wyrmroost. I don't know, I just really liked it. The ending in the castle with the three brothers was absolutely phenomenal! I loved it.
So, what next?
I seriously have so many questions! What happens to Seth, will he get his identity back? Does the Sphinx come back? Where is Bracken? What about Knox and Tanu? Is Agad evil? I'm really suspecting that he is, the part at the end, really has me wondering!!

I have been following Kendra and Seth's adventures for almost ten years, I'm now twenty, and yet I never seem to outgrow these characters or stop finding them interesting. This series holds such a special place in my heart. I was weary going into both this book and it's predecessor because spin off series in general make me nervous, I was terrified I wasn't going to like it as much as I did the original series, but there is something so fresh and new about this continuation that it holds the same place in my heart.
The Setting
Once again this book takes place primarily at Wrymroost, one of the Dragon Sanctuaries, and a magical preserve so intense that it makes Fablehaven look like a petting zoo. We really get to see more of the preserve in this book, even more then what was revealed in Fablehaven 4. I loved seeing more of Terrabelle, and I found the realm of the talking animals very cool as well. I also loved seeing more of the dragon's castle, and the Bewildered was so fascinating as well!
The Characters
Seth and Kendra are really starting to grow up (finally) they've been the same age for the past four books, which is the only grievance I have of this book. I really feel like they've grown though. The decision Seth makes at the end!! was so unlike him, and was incredibly shocking. I did not see that coming at all. I also feel like Kendra really starts to come into her own and is more confident with her abilities as well.
We see some of the secondary characters in this book as well. Tanu is one of my favorites, I've had a soft spot for him since the second Fablehaven book. Also, it was so cool to see Patton again, I absolutely adore him. He is definitely one of my favorite characters.
Calvin, the giant nipsie is also such a fascinating character. I love the dynamic he and Seth have and I'm curious to see how the ending is going to affect Calvin in future books.
I have to admit, Knox isn't my favorite, but I do think there is some potential for him to prove himself in later books.

I have a few issues with this one (I won't share the specifics as it would be majorly spoilerific). However, most of it can be summed up as my not being a huge fan of transitional books, and this being a transitional book. Things tend to happen that never had to happen, just to set up the next step in the story. Excellent transitions are pretty seamlessly done and you don't even realize you're being steered along. By the time I reached the end of this, I knew it was a way to get from point A to point B.
Still a great story with all of the things I love about this (these?) series and characters. Team Newel and Doren forever!

This is more like the Brandon Mull I remember. Good books, don't get me wrong, but nothing so fantastic I want to dive right into the next one. His first in the series was head and shoulders above this one. So much so, that I knew I had to read this.
I struggled here. The cliff-hanger ending seemed contrived.
However, my biggest problem is time and spacing. I REALLY would like a map here. The group travel trough three "sections" of the sanctuary in a matter of hours, on horseback.
Is the sanctuary a prison where the creatures are locked in an eternal battle for resources and pitted against one another for survival? In that case, the dragons have a point.
Is the sanctuary big enough we should all be able to get along and live happily? Then the dragons are bad.
You really can't have it both ways. Traveling and time shoot these theories full of holes and make the book wildly inconsistent. It'll take weeks to get from the dragon's home back to the keep, but it only takes a half-day to go through three sections and then to the magical castle.
This story is rife with these inconsistencies.

I loved this riveting, wildly imaginative fantasy, the second entry in Brandon Mull's "Dragonwatch" series, which is a follow-up to his wonderful "Fablehaven" series. Yes, there is a cliffhanger, but I was expecting it, and there are only a few months to wait for the next book. Apparently, like "Fablehaven," this will be a five-book series. Also, I want to check out the author's other fantasy series, "Beyonders" and "Five Kingdoms."

Seth still hasn't grown up and now with Knox, you have to deal with two immature boys who don't think beyond themselves. The storyline follows the same pattern as the previous book and it's getting old. The cliffhanger ending is truly awful!

Many people have a place they love to go where imagination runs wild and reality is forgotten, the Fablehaven universe is that place for me, I’m so glad Dragowatch continues the adventure. This is a middle grade fantasy adventure series.
Seth is back along with his humor; his interactions with other characters are pure entertainment. Kendra helps balance Seth with her thoughtful nature and if I had a journey through the Bewilderness I’d pick Kendra every time. Thank goodness for the somber knight and his trusty ride! Teamwork is on full display as a group of friends work together to solve mysteries and win a contest with the world at stake.
At this point I feel like I’m part of the family. As with the other Fablehaven adventures, Wrath of the Dragon King is well written and even though I’m not a “young” reader I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone that can read… lots of fun.

That ending was not fair. How am I meant to go to not pick up the sequel immediately?? I had the good sense to order the remaining books when I started reading the first... But can you imagine if I didn't? Word of advice: have the third book on hand before you finish this one.
This was a great sequel to the first book. Lots that was further built upon, plenty of funny scenes and tons of challenges for our protagonists to overcome. Some things fell into place and answers were given. Plus I assume there was also a lot of set up (besides just the ending) for the next books. Stuff that won't become obvious until later on.
If I had to choose between the first and the second, I'd choose this one perhaps? Very self indulgent part of this review.

Oh my goodness! This book is crazy!
I was so excited to get back into the Fablehaven world. Everytime I read a book from Brandon Mull, I am reminded of how much I love this universe! This book fits perfectly into the original series and takes us on another adventure.
I loved the way the original characters are focused on. Kendra and Seth are again at the heart of the story. Loved seeing Tanu again. The new characters like their cousins Knox and Tess are especially fun. They add a fun dimension to the story.
The plot is action packed and hard to put down. Finished in about 24 hours. I could not believe the ending!!!
