King finds out that everything he thought he knew about his ex is not true at all. He has a daughter out there and when he hunts down his ex's sister he is bringing her home. He doesn't expect Allison though, he wants to hate her but she was another pawn in what his ex did. Coming to grips with his new path in life, he wants Allison but the rage inside him is tearing them apart. Allison gives King an ultimatum but what no one expects is the danger that Allison finds herself in.

Full of twists and turns. I liked Allison a lot and I think the way she handled King was what he needed. The story pulled me in right away and I couldn't put this one down. So far the two books I have read are terrific. Anxious to see what happens next.

This is the second book in the Murdoch Series. Tormented by the King focuses on King and the bombshell of a ending in book 1!

Not only do we learn more about King and his history and present but we get to know a lot about why Knight is the way he is even though this isn’t his book.

King finds out some information regarding a ex that has him taking action to get what he wants.

This one brings a lot of action and intense moments. I’m loving this series. It’s one that I have just been devouring. So far these first two books have been nothing less then phenomenal! Now onto book 3!!

Reads like fanfic that was written by a teenager.

The very first thing I noticed in book 2 of the series, is that it still desperately needs an editor. One of the most annoying things in the first book was the ridiculous formatting. It makes it virtually impossible to tell who is speaking. Simply hitting enter and adding a line break after the spoken dialogue and before the description of a physical reaction of someone else would make it clear who was actually speaking. Too often I had to go back and count out the dialogue to figure out who said what. That completely removed you from the story at that point. Unfortunately, it did not improve in book two.

It’s been a bit since I finished the first book, and I forgot how horrid the editing was and how juvenile the writing was. Ironic that King’s internal monologue where he’s (of course) degrading Allison has “college” misspelled 😂

“I’m Amelia’s father and I should know what’s best for her, not some washed-up collage drop out playing house with my kid.” 😂😂😂

I also forgot how little few redeeming qualities this author gives the men she writes. Constantly belittling, cruel words, grabbing her throat and slamming her around when he just met her… this is a woman who has done nothing to him, but has raised his child alone since birth. He has decided he should have his daughter, with zero regard for her wellbeing. Just that since she’s HIS, then he gets to say so. 🙄🙄 These aren’t even alpha men. They’re written like overgrown children. I remember in book one, someone commented that these guys were all named after chess pieces but were playing checkers. It’s painfully accurate. They are supposed to be these big bad mafia leaders but are so foolish and childish it’s ridiculous.

Ally is supposed to be this tough girl that has fought to raise her sister’s child, withstood her sleazy boss’s sexual harassment and abuse, but the moment King shows up she loses her spine. Apparently it’s ok for King to physically and verbally abuse her (and he does so repeatedly, including around the daughter), but since he doesn’t have the fat belly like her boss and is SO HOT it’s ok. 🙄🙄 Days after him again choking her, throwing her to the ground, and stealing Amelia from her, she shows up all wonton saying she misses him. What??? What was attractive about ANY of that?

It honestly reads as though a teenager wrote what they thought was hot or alpha, but because they have zero real life experience it’s very immature. It reads as though it’s an immature fanfic. Seriously- the way they act and speak and the overuse of exclamation points and ellipsis speaks to immaturity. Don’t get me wrong, the storyline premise itself is actually good. That’s what kept me going. It just needs a lot of help. A lot. And for the love of all that is holy, please get an editor.

I really enjoyed this story! This story pulled me in from beginning to end and absolutely held my attention. I loved these two characters and how fiery Allison is. She is a strong woman and is not just going to back down, especially with her niece being involved. She might not have given birth to Amelia but that child is hers and she is a fierce momma. She is willing to do whatever it takes for her little one. This story has plenty of action and intrigue as we watch these two come together along with the rest of the family that we get to see more of. I loved how this story developed. There is definitely some potential triggers and the story deals with rape and the aftermath of it, (don't want to give details due to spoilers). It flowed really smooth and kept me engaged. This story is darker than the last one due to some of the events happening real time instead of years past. I loved getting to see the family again and getting more of them and I can't wait for more! This has been a great series!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Trigger Warning: Rape, Attempted Sexual Assault, Torture, Kidnapping and Murder.

The Murdoch Family is still dealing with some family drama as well as the numerous threats against the family. King is the underboss to his brother Bishop who is the Don of the Murdoch Family. King is still upset about a decision Bishop made years ago about his King's girlfriend Christine. Bishop made King give her up and to focus on the family. King never got over Christine especially after he found out she died 5 years ago. If the death wasn't hard enough Kings learns that he is a father and that Christine never told him.

Allison is Christine's sister and has raised Christine and King's daughter Amelia since the day she was born. Allison wanted no part of the Mafia life and tried everything she could to keep Amelia safe from that lifestyle. Allison's life changed in a blink of an eye the day King found her and confronted her about wanting his daughter.

King literally tormented Ally every chance he got. Ally went toe to toe against King when it came to Ameila. King had a lot of deep-rooted issues that he needed to resolve. The more time he spent with Allison the more secrets from the past began to resurface regarding his family and Christine; revealing that Christine wasn't who appeared to be and was toxic for King and was trying to break up their family.

The closer King got to Ally and Amelia to more danger they were put in. Ally started out as a naive, sweet, soft-spoken woman but being tied to King put her in an unimaginable situation that was hard for her to come back from. Due to the ordeal Ally experienced she found herself slipping into a dark place and wanted everyone to hurt. King knew that if he had any chance in saving Ally; he first needed to get her some help so that she could save herself.

King and Ally had a lot of obstacles to overcome. King's insecurities and distrust kept driving a wedge between the two and after Ally's horrific ordeal she put up walls keeping everyone including King at arms distance until she could move past her trauma. In the beginning of their relationship Ally never gave up on King but once the tables were turned King let go of his demons and fought to be the man Ally could trust and rely on. When Ally was in her darkest hour King never gave up on her and gave her the time she needed to heal.

This family has a lot of family drama to fight through but no matter how mad they become at one another one thing is for certain the Murdoch Family will always have each other's back.

Review:

Tormented By The King by Samantha Barrett is an emotionally charged and deeply moving romance that delves into themes of love, loyalty, and healing from within. This novel takes readers on a rollercoaster of emotions, as the characters face personal demons and cling to the lifeline that love can offer, no matter how dark life becomes.

The relationship between the main characters, Mela and Allison, is the heart of the story, filled with intense emotions and moments of vulnerability. The quote, "There will never be a lifetime where I don't find you. I will be the glue that keeps you together each time you feel like you're falling apart. Mela needs, Allison... I fucking need you. Don't ever for a second think you are not worthy of living because, baby," perfectly encapsulates the raw devotion between them. It highlights the kind of love that holds you together in your most broken moments, showing that true love isn’t just about passion but about being there when everything feels like it’s crumbling.

Barrett’s writing is powerful and filled with emotion. She captures the struggles of her characters with vivid depth, making their pain, passion, and triumphs resonate on every page. The chemistry between Mela and Allison is palpable, making their journey together incredibly compelling. Their connection feels not only romantic but also spiritual, like they are destined to find each other in every lifetime—a theme that echoes throughout the book.

The story does tackle some dark and difficult themes, and there are moments when it feels emotionally heavy. However, Barrett balances these heavier moments with powerful declarations of love and hope, like the one in the quote, making it clear that even in the darkest times, love can provide a reason to keep going.

Overall, Tormented By The King is a raw, emotional, and heart-wrenching read that explores the healing power of love. If you're a fan of stories that feature emotionally intense relationships and themes of redemption and inner strength, this book will certainly leave an impact.

Tormented By The King, the second book in the Murdoch Mafia series by Samantha Barrett was absolutely riveting and everything it promised to be and more! I absolutely fell in love with King in book one and anxiously awaited his story—and it did NOT disappoint!

This story takes us back into the lives of the Murdoch Family and all of their drama and constant threats and violence that surrounds their family, and all about King—who’s still a tad resentful of Bishop’s past decision regarding his girlfriend at the time—a decision that made him the hostile right hand man that he now is. And then he finds out that the deceit didn’t just stop there and that truths were hidden from him…and he’s actually a father.

Our beautifully sweet and naive heroine Allison is the sister of Kings past girlfriend, and the woman who’s been taking care of her Bierce (King’s daughter) on her own, wanting no part of the mafia world or King himself. So when king finally finds them? Everything changes and shows Ally just how much she can endure and how strong she can be. Can they both let go of past anger and survive all the hidden secrets and current traumas and obstacles being placed in their path that threaten to destroy them or are they doomed from the start?

I loved seeing the evolution of these two characters as they both worked to get over their own issues, trauma, insecurities and betrayals—especially Ally overcoming all the trauma and surviving the darkness. If you love dark mafia romances with deliciously dark alphas and heroines that capture their attention then this is the one for you! Just be mindful of trigger going in if you have any concerns, because this is definitely quite the ride!

I loved this book just as much as the first — maybe even more. Tormented by the King is the second installment in the Murdoch Mafia series, and it’s safe to say I’ve found a new favorite author. Samantha Barrett has me completely hooked!
This one felt darker than the first, so definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in. That said, it was everything I hoped for and more. All I want now is to be a Good Girl for Mr. King — hell yes, baby! Sign me up.
King absolutely stole my heart. He had major Daddy energy, and I melted for him. He’s the perfect mix of ruthless mafia boss and tender, protective partner. The way he cared for Ally, especially by giving her space to heal and even getting her a therapist? Chef’s kiss. He didn’t just take — he gave her room to find herself again, and that made him even more swoon-worthy.
Ally’s journey was powerful. Watching her fight through her trauma and rediscover her strength was inspiring. I ached for everything she went through, but I was cheering her on every step of the way. Her transformation into a total badass was so satisfying.
And can we talk about little Amelia? Her scenes were adorable and added so much heart to the story. I was completely rooting for these three to become a family and get their well-deserved HEA. That ending? So, so satisfying.
This series just keeps getting better, and I’m already diving into the next one. Mafia romance lovers — this series is a must!

3.5 STARS

TORMENTED BY THE KING is the second book in the Murdoch Mafia series. It can be read as a stand alone but it reads better if you read what comes before, Played by the Bishop. If you are sensitive to certain subjects you should read and follow the authors warnings.

King Murdoch is the underboss to his older brother Bishop. Bishop did what he had to do to keep his family safe. including telling King he couldn't be with Christine. What King didn't know is that Christine died in childbirth and his daughter is being raised by Christine's sister, Allison. King will do whatever he needs to get his daughter and protect her. Allison is the only mother Amelia has ever known. Taking her away from her would destroy Amelia but bringing her with them may destroy King. When a rival family takes Allison because she means something to King, he realizes he loves and needs both of them in life and will do whatever to get her back. Allison doesn't need King to save her she needs to save herself.

I did find myself rereading certain sections because of confusion or not realizing who was actually speaking but I was able to overlook it to continue on.

I am completely invested in this series. I need to know what's next for Knight!

Tormented by the King, the second book in the Murdoch Mafia series by Samantha Barrett is a shock-a-minute thrill ride that is not to be missed. I'll admit to being ambivalent about King after book 1, but this book warmed me to all of his alpha hole glory!

The family dynamics have not improved since the first book. King is still angry with Bishop about some of the decisions that he made internally and externally within the family in order to protect his then-girlfriend. As events unfold in this story, it isn't likely that he is going to feel any different (at least right away) when he finds out that his girlfriend Christine died having his child and that his daughter is now being raised by her aunt, Christine's sister, Allison. But his daughter, Amelia, is just that, his, and King will stop at nothing to get her with him (both to have her under the family protection and well, she's his daughter, she shouldn't be elsewhere). Taking her away from Allison, the only mother she's ever known, might not work either, but soon that decision is removed from them when Allison is kidnapped by forces who know that she is important to the Murdoch family. It's then King realizes the depth of his feelings for Allison and all bets are off.

I don't think I could have fallen more in love with a Murdoch than I did with King. He is a complex character with massive trust issues, especially when his older brother, the Don of the Murdoch family, keeps a massive secret from him.

Finding out he has a daughter by a women who betrayed his family, King goes in search for her and to make the person who is shielding him from her pay. Enter Allison (Ally), the sister who dropped everything to care for and protects the child (Amelia) that her sister never wanted.

For years, Ally has been able to protect Amelia from the Murdoch family until one day a stranger shows up to take back what is his. This event starts a chain of events that test the bond between father, daughter, lover, and family.

The one thing about Ally is that she is stronger than most give her credit for and she will sacrifice herself for those she loves. After a traumatic event, Ally has two options and with the help of King, Amelia, and the whole Murdoch bunch she is able to find herself back in the mix but with a few deeper scars.

Please remember that some content in this book is not for everyone so make sure to read all the trigger warnings. Your mental health matters and it is ok not to finish a book if the subject matter becomes too heavy.

10/10🖤

This series gets better and better with each book! I’ve always had a love for interconnected series because you get a glimpse at the characters you’ve already fallen in love with but also a whole new story at the same time. Allison and Knight unsurprisingly have a VERY rocky start from the moment they meet. Allison is a kind soul ready to lay down her life for the one person in her life that means everything. Upon meeting Knight Murdoch her life gets tossed upside down and she has no choice but to roll with the punches or lose the only person she has. Knight starts out as a character I was very unsure of, even in Bishop’s story. He’s rough around the edges and an all around a**. As this book goes on you get a glimpse at why he is the way he is and it becomes easier to fall for him. This book is heavy on triggers so make sure you know what you’re getting into. Samantha has nailed dark mafia and I can’t wait to keep reading!

King and Allison broke my heart in so many ways but this book was phenomenal!

I was so distraught when everything took place, but I loved it because it brought these two closer together and that was perfection to me.

King and Mela's relationship made my heart absolutely melt! I couldn't get enough.

Allison was so strong through it all, even when she didn't want to be or didn't think she could be. She found her way through all the pain and suffering and grew so much stronger because of it.

Seeing the family dynamic in this story was so good, watching them all come together and protect each other and just be there for each other was exactly what I needed.

I hated how much this book hurt Knight and I really hope to see an HEA for him, he deserves all the love. I am ready to see what happens next!

A king meets his own queen??

Hopefully you read book 1 of the Murdoch Mafia series.
Technically they are stand alones in a way, but you should read them in order to know the back story of each character. The books to go in order of time as well.
So, book one cliff hanger gets answered luckily.
This book is about King the second brother of the Murdoch Mafia family. We learn his past has caught up to him in the best way possible.
There is a lot of heat with Allison the fmc. These two definitely are made for each other.
The family dynamic of this book ties into the others,so again try to read in order.
Seeing the guys in a new role was good for the soul.
BUT like in Bishops book, she left us on a drastic cliff hanger......
Do not pass up this series.
LOTS of spice, some graphic stuff happens with Allison, but it only adds to her story.

We learn a lot more about King and why he is resentful to Bishop. He sees that Bishop is happy now, King was happy, but Bishop took that all away from him when he killed his girlfriend.
Still grieving the loss of Christine nothing surprises him more than to learn that there was a child, a child that was kept from him for five years and he’s going to get back.
Allison isn’t what he expected most people are scared of him but when it came to Amelia, he learnt that Allison would put her own life first. He knows it’s a risk bringing Allison with how he starting to feel with her, learning things he never knew, but he didn’t realise how much danger he would really put her in.
One thing King quickly realises is that he can’t live without Allison or Amelia and will do anything to keep them safe.
Can’t wait to see what happens in Knight.

Book 2 continues on with the Murdoch family and their constant unrest within the mafia families and the need to control.
King quickly discovers that not everything it was it appears.

Allison is the sister of King's ex partner Christine. Theirs was such a disfunctional relationship that was toxic and dangerous.

What King soon discovers is that family will back and battle for you, even when they don't always agree. That is until they meet Allison.

Allison's character quickly develops and builds into a fearse wowan.

Plenty of action drama suspense and danger. There is alot heartbreak along the way.
King doesn't trust Allison "Ally " manly because she is Christine's sister.
That changes when King understands the length Ally goes to, to protect his daughter Amelia.
Looking forward to the series and the next book.

This is the second book in the series and it was an engaging as the first. There are still some timeline errors and minor confusion with the writing, but again I was able to stay in the story and not let it distract me. This book does have some darker elements, but manages not to go in too much detail about them. This book focused on King, the second oldest of the brothers. There is plenty of steam between him and the FMC Ally. The push and pull between them doesn’t last long before they give in to each other. These are shorter stories as I was able to finish two in one day, but I don’t feel as if a lot was missing. I am fully committed to this series for the long haul and will eagerly start the next one to see what happens next!

Tormented By The King is the second in The Murdoch Mafia series - this be is about King, the underboss of this mafia family and picks up where Played By The Bishop about the oldest sibling Bishop ended.

King was the brother that ‘got things done’ and was kept in the background in the first book so it was interesting seeing him come into his own, but the past that made him closed off isn’t delved into, I would’ve liked to see what made him the man he is.

There are some minor discrepancies with the storytelling, but not enough that I couldn’t follow. There are some darker elements, but doesn’t go into much detail like I’d like, but the storyline was good and kept my interest and I’m looking forward to Knight’s book.

This is the second book in this series. The chess brothers. This is about King and his pieces of pass crashing with the present. King stalkes his exs sister to get back what is his. King takes what he wants and is angry about how he has loss months. Allison has something that King wants. This is a story of Allison dropping everything in her life to be adult. Allison ahd asked King a chance to help King with the move. Their is mafia men that are after The chess men and they take Allison and King fights to get her back. Once King finds Allison King finds it is hard as of the abuse that happen during her time gone. Allison has to fight to love again and get back what she had. King dose everything to help her fight and live again. Thhis is amazing read and am loving this series.

Tormented by the King by Samantha Barrett is the mind-blowing story of King and Allison (Ally). King has just discovered a shock! Now, Allison and her daughter, Mela have become a part of his life….and that’s the last place Allison wants to be. He hates Allison, but he has no choice. Mela is everything to him.

Then, events occur that change everything! Allison and Mela’s lives are in danger. Allison makes a decision…one that puts her an even more precarious, life-threatening situation. Whew!!! This story had my attention from the very first paragraph! The chemistry between King and Allison is palpable. Their goals are the same. Nothing matters except Mela. Freaking amazing, heart-pounding, romantic read!!!

Book 2 we are introduce to King and what an a$$h0le he is! Lol
At the end of book one we learn that king has a daughter he didn’t know he had! He stops at nothing to get her back!
Ally gave up her whole life to look after Amelia after her mother died!
She works her butt off to provide a life for this little girl!
Insert king! He threatens to take all That away! But he has a fight on his hands! Ally will not lay down!

Sammy is amazing at writing boss ass FMC and Ally does not disappoint!

Check the triggers before you read!

Another fantastically written story that keeps you on your toes!

Tormented by the king starts off right where book 1 left off but this one brings a lot of action and intense moments. Which I am here for!!! I flew through this book! I loved seeing King in the past and present and he is definitely a favorite for sure. Samantha didn’t disappoint with this one! This was easy 5 stars. I can’t wait to see what Knight’s book. Although I think there are discrepancies with the storytelling, but not enough that I couldn’t follow. There are some darker elements but not dark enough as I would have liked, or detailed enough, but the storyline was good and kept my interest

I liked it, not better than Bishops book but I did like the chemistry between the 2. King needed to get over some demons and trust issues to finally let himself love Ally.
One part that kind of got me was the change in her after the kidnapping and sexual assault. I guess it’s just me, I’ve never endured anything like that so this is just IMO but how can she go from being scared of everyone’s touch and scared of sex to the rough acts they were engaging in? I just felt like that was super over the top. Again just my opinion. Looking forward to starting the next book. I do appreciate that they are not super long and can be finished rather quickly.

Unfortunately I didn’t like this was as much as the first. I feel like at times the pacing felt rushed and I had to turn back a page to take sure I hadn’t missed pages or a chapter because it felt different or like a massive jump had occurred from one page to the next. I also didn’t feel like the relationship between King and Allison was developed enough. I don’t feel a strong connection between the two characters and thought they got together quite quickly. I did love the family relationships in this book though, not only with King and Amelia, Amelia and ally but also with the brothers and Kiara as well.

You guys this series is getting dark and I'm so here for it!
What that says about me as a person I'm not sure and I'm sure as shït not unpacking that!

Alli and King i fell in love with, the way their darkness complements each other's, the way the read each other is just perfection.

I love getting to know the Murdoch family, the ins and outs of their business.

This series is highly addictive, I can't wait to continue with Knight.

This series WILL get darker so please check trigger warnings!

Be prepared to be captivated from the first page to the last. I was so invested in this story that I was irritated with every person and task that interrupted my reading 🤣.

I love how each book is a standalone but the cliffhanger in it leads to the next. My heart broke for what Ally goes through but it just made me love her, King, and their whole family more. The way they support and rally for each other is magical.

I absolutely loved and recommend this book. If you aren't sensitive to the triggers you HAVE to read this!

This book continues on from book one but focus on King and his issues. Ohhhh boy does he have some. We also get to meet the women who brings him down a few pegs. I absolutely loved Alison. This women has the strength to over come soooooo much in this book. She doesn't back down from any of the brothers especially King. This couple goes through alot through out the book and still manages to work through it. They have to be my favorite couple so far. I cant wait to start book 3 and Knights story.

I honestly think I've just broken my record on the fastest I've finished a book. Samantha my love, where have you been all my life. Where have the Murdoch Brothers been all my life. This one got to me. There are scenes that hard my heart racing, with tears ready to spill and others that had my blood boiling. Sam definitely knows how to pull at all of those emotions in just one book.
