Welcome to Hawkwood Hollow, where the dead outnumber the living.
Maura is settling into her new life. She's working at the local inn, helping Carey hunt for ghosts in her free time, and she even has a date with the local detective.
But she's always feared her past would catch up to her, and it turns out she has a good reason to worry when a new Reaper shows up in town. As the local ghosts start vanishing, Maura is inclined to blame the newcomer, but something more may be going on.
With a group of teens at Carey's magical academy deciding to start their own ghost-hunting blog, too, the pressure builds on Maura to find the source of the vanishing ghosts.
Can Maura protect Hawkwood Hollow before the notorious Reaper Council takes away her new life for good?
Elle Adams lives in the middle of England, where she spends most of her time reading an ever-growing mountain of books, planning her next adventure, or writing. Elle's books are humorous mysteries with a paranormal twist and tons of magical mayhem.
She also writes urban and contemporary fantasy novels as Emma L. Adams.
Another reaper is in town, ghosts are disappearing, school bullies are tormenting Carey and stealing her ghost hunting business.. it’s a rough week for the gang but they’re up for the taskb
I think I’m just a child in an older person body, coz I do love witches stories a lot. I enjoyed the dynamics between the characters, how there is a clique of mean young guys (high school) but it’s more focused on ghost hunting lols. The monsters, the reapers, the witches, and the ghosts, what a mix!!
A Ghost and a Hard Place is Book 3 in the Reaper Witch series by Elle Adams. This was such a good book. I love Maura, who is half witch half reaper. There is a new Reaper in town and Maura can't figure out what he is doing there, if he is a rogue reaper or from the Reaper Council. There are missing ghosts and Maura is trying to get to the bottom of it. Maura is worried that the Reaper Council is coming and will kick her out of her new town. There is so much action in this book I could not put it down. I really like how the progression between Maura and Alex's relationship. This is such a wonderful series, I highly recommend it.
This is a fun read; the characters are likeable, the mystery is engaging, and there are several surprises along the way. Maura has a loyal group for back-up, and it's beginning to look like she'll need plenty...!
This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. A small supernatural town where witches shifters and many others live. It also happens to be Chuck full of ghosts. Decades back a river overflowed its banks and killed a big number of people in the town as well as destroyed a portion of the town. Those ghosts at least many of them still linger about. A young woman comes to town to help out A young girl with a violent ghost problem. Once there and after dealing with the issue she decides to stay. She gets a job at a local in and helps out running the in and doing whatever she can. As one of the few people around that can see ghosts and deal with them. As she is half witch and half reaper. She tends to be the go to person for ghost issues around town. Follow along as many mysteries are uncovered in with her help and the help of some of the ghosts and shifter police chief. As well as her friend Carrie who is the daughter of the in owner she works for. Trouble always seems to be around the corner. By the way her brother who also was half which half reaper and was killed years ago. His ghost hangs around her as well. Corky entertaining and fun. Check it out
Eric asks Maura if she can find Lara because she seems to have vanished which is odd because the ghost teens are usually together around the inn. How can a ghost go missing?
Carey is dealing with a group of bullies; lead by Cris and Ann they have set up a rival ghost blog and are up to no good trying to outdo Carey. Would Maura's help make it better or worse?
A bit of research at the library draws Maura's attention to the strange bundles of herbs popping up here and there; outside the library and Inn amongst other places. Are they there for good or evil? Is this to do with her taking out the head of the coven?
And to cap it all there's a strange reaper in town who's evasive and making Maura worry about the reaper council coming in and clearing out the remaining ghosts; but Harold won't answer her questions either. Are the reaper council about to create problems for her and Mart? Or are they potentially going to replace the retired Harold?
There's a lot to work through and it doesn't seem to be tied together but as she tries to protect Mart and Carey things start to slot into place and the real issue could be life threatening for not just the ghosts..
When Maura discovers another reaper has come to town, she and Mart are a little worried as to his motivations. And when a couple of ghosts go missing, they have to wonder if the reaper is responsible. With Detective Drew by her side, Maura investigates; dealing with Carey’s bullies, the grumpy reaper, and an unsolved mystery that might just be connected to the ghostly disappearances.
Book three picks up a little after book two, and since it builds on the events that occurred in the two previous books, it’s a given that you need to have read those first! We do see a smart advancement in Drew and Maura’s slow burn romance, as well as learning a few things about the secretive reapers. There are some intriguing reveals along the way, to make for an enthralling addition to the series. Stuffed with ghostly shenanigans, this cosy paranormal mystery is an enjoyable read for the armchair sleuth.
This is the third Reaper Witch mystery I've read this month, so clearly I'm a fan! I loved this one too.
When a ghost disappears from the Inn, where Maura works and lives, she has to put all her reaper witch skills to the test to find out what is happening in Hawkwood Hollow.
I'm really enjoying these mysteries. I could easily pick who did it with this one, but not the why and definitely not some of the elements [like hellbeasts!!!!!!], and I loved the suspense. This is definitely my favourite new paranormal series of the year. I can't wait to read the next one.
The heroine has guts, that's for sure. She will face off with anything or anyone she perceives as a risk to her town and especially her friends. I enjoyed this story very much, but when I was done, I felt like there should have been more. I was left wondering what the witches were hiding. What was old Harold so afraid of. When is the heroine going to get her own scythe (on her own terms, of-course). Well, guess I better get reading if I want more.
3 stars because it was an okay story, but Elle Adams has written better ones. Maura, half witch, half Reaper. Living at B & B with friend and her daughter. Non-registered Reeper, who doesn't even own a scythe, starts noticing odd little things and then a resident ghost can't find his friend whom he died with. Old Harold, the "retired" Reaper, just doesn't seem to care.
A very good book that is a really enjoyable read. Maura has a missing ghost problem, which is unusual in a town normally full of ghosts. Add in a new and mysterious Reaper, and some school bullies harassing Maura's young friend, and we get a storyline with lots going on.
Souls are suddenly disappearing, and there’s a new reaper in town. Is he responsible for the missing ghosts, or is something more nefarious going on? It will take all of Maura’s skills to solve this one. A must read!
I really enjoy Maura and the adventures and mishaps she gets involved in. This is a unique series in that, you never read one about Reapers, so it’s a great mystery adventure but also refreshing.
All of life and the after life comes back to the flood.who caused the flood, what are they hiding? And what will they do next in order to keep the secret?
Another good addition to the series A clean story as far as no swearing or sex... Recommended for ages 11-15 unless you like a cozy paranormal mystery like I do
his is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Very entertaining! Great Reading Everyone!
Well written , funny characters, a misty town with a secret. I want to know more about the curmudgeon Harold. Carey is adorable as a junior spook hunter
