Making bread is one of the most satisfying adventures I’ve ever had in my kitchen. The ability to stretch and “play” with the dough plus getting rid of any frustrations is a bonus! Plus the wonderful aroma throughout my home is beyond perfect. This book makes it easy to conquer any doubts about making bread while acquiring a new skill and confidence in the kitchen.

Let's Make Bread is an accessible and well written guide to breadmaking aimed at middle grade readers and facilitators. Released 25th Aug 2022 by Norwood House Press, it's 32 pages and is available in hardcover and paperback format.

Author Mari Bolte has written a fun series of activity books slanted toward young readers with food related DIY activities. This particular volume includes step by step illustrated instructions start to finish, for producing a simple loaf of bread along with some serving suggestions. All steps are clearly photographed with specific and complete tools and ingredients lists. The writing is simple and understandable with specific steps to follow for a successful outcome. She squeezes in an impressive amount of chemistry and background info without being condescending at all. There's also a neat very short history lesson about humanity's shared history with yeast and breads. The vibe of the entire series is upbeat, excited, and cool.

Five stars. This would be a superlative choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, activity/makers' groups, or gift giving.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

What might seem at first to be a simple kid's recipe for baking a loaf of bread is really more than meets the eye. Before the baking fun begins, there's a history of bread lesson, and a detailed description of how yeast works and what is happening to the loaf of bread as it bakes. This description is a good science lesson, and might lead your child into a greater interest in science.

And then the fun begins. With step by step instructions and plenty of pictures, your child will bake a loaf of bread. It's an exciting accomplishment! After the recipe has been followed and the loaf of bread is cooling, there's a few websites that could be visited, along with other recommended reading and a glossary.

With the various aspects of learning involved - reading and following instructions, dabbles in science, history, math (measuring ingredients) and language skills, I could definitely see this book becoming popular with homeschoolers. But there's value in store for every child, and their parents, too. What a great way to bond with your child and create a good memory.

My thanks to author Mari Bolte, Norwood House Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Let’s make bread by Mari Bolte was a fun and educational book to go through with my 8 year old daughter. She had been begging to bake for awhile now and I am not a baker. Mari’s book taught both of us! It is written in a very easy to follow way yet is very educational! I definitely recommend this book.

This series is super cute for little ones. First it tells you about bread and then it gives you a pretty easy recipe (with easy to follow instructions) on making your own bread.
