Two epic tales of multiversal madness in one spider-filled Omnibus! It begins with the Inheritors - a family of killers working their way through the realities, leaving a trail of dead Spider-people in their wake! Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Jessica Drew are joined by Spider-Men, Women and Girls from across the worlds in an interdimensional battle for survival! If any of them get out of this alive, will they be ready for the Spider-Geddon to follow? Iconic heroes and amazing new champions unite as things go from bad…to Spider-Verse!
Dan Slott is an American comic book writer, the current writer on Marvel Comics' The Amazing Spider-Man, and is best known for his work on books such as Arkham Asylum: Living Hell, She-Hulk, Silver Surfer, The Superior Spider-Man, and Ren & Stimpy.
Not as great as I hoped. Now the many spidermen coming together is great. Seeing original after origin story is actually the coolest part of the stories. Seeing each Spiderman or spider woman or…I won’t spoil anything, but there’s a lot of time out into original stories. The bad part is the villains are a little weakly written and even the backbone of the story isn’t terribly interesting. Spider-gedden, taking place after spiderverse is exhausting. I couldn’t get through it without page skipping. Maybe my hopes were too high given that Dan Slott wrote one of the best spidey stories with Superior Spiderman. But this one ain’t superior. But again, if you are interested in multiple spidermen, that’s the funnest part of the book.
This omnibus contains a large portion of the Spider-verse and Spider-geddon stories, but it does not contain all related material. Some sequels and spin-off series are missing from the omnibus. The omnibus could be a good starting point, but be aware it is not everything.
The core stories and sequels can be found in four books: Spider-verse (648 pages), Spider-geddon (216 pages), Spider-verse Spider-zero (136 pages), Spider-man End of the Spider-verse (176 pages). The last two of these books are not in the omnibus!
Spider-verse spin-offs and tie-ins: Spider-verse Across the Multiverse (416 pages) collects the first three Edge of Spider-verse series (2014, 2022, 2023). Edge of Spider-verse 2024 series (Spider Society) is its own book since it was recently published. Only the 2014 series is included in the omnibus!
Spider-geddon spin-offs and tie-ins: Edge of Spider-geddon, Spider-geddon Covert Ops, Spider-Gwen Ghost Spider Spider-geddon, Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-man Spider-geddon. These are all included in the omnibus. Maybe more series exist? Yes: Spider-punk got a spin-off series not showing in the omnibus.
More series not in the omnibus: Silk Out of the Spider-verse volumes 1-3, Web-Warriors of the Spider-verse volumes 1-2. There is a five-issue tie-in to Secret Wars 2015 called Spider-verse Warzones that does not appear in the omnibus. There are probably even more spin-off series that exist and are not listed in this review.
This was great fun! A well-balanced mix of campy fun and dark-themed seriousness. Death and talking pigs share the same pages without it ever being silly in a bad way. I was a bit apprehensive towards the whole Spider-Verse idea, seing how the MCU hasn't really (in my humble opinion) managed to do something with the multiverse that makes sense, other than to try to capitalize on previous Marvel franchises. But this feels different. I had some problems following the story at first, but I slowly got used to the jumping between storylines that takes place, as well as keeping tabs on which Spider-Man is which. The scale is epic and from time to time the drama actually got me quite emotional. After all, the core of Peter Parker's story is a tragedy concerning loss, loneliness and the almost compulsional tendency to sacrifice oneself for "the other" - whomever that may be. That's great stuff for building drama and maybe even the main reason why Spider-Man is one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel roster.
This is no "Into the Spider-Verse" but you can see how they wanted it to be. A series of What If stories humorously juxtaposed against the preponderance of spider folks in the 616 is lots of fun.
Morlun and his family are, sadly, extremely boring repeat villains, especially in the hands of turgid dialogue by B-tier writers like Christos Gage. It's hard to get excited by a multiversal threat when our heroes decide to pretend they're the X-Men for the duration. They won't phone their friends despite being uniquely vulnerable to these exact villains, they pop in and out of locations at will, they're almost all background characters to show off how cool Superior Spidey and Spider-Gwen are, and the final battle is over in about three pages after 300 pages of buildup. You want MacGuffins? We have a Solus Crystal and a Great Web and 4 named totems and half a dozen dimension hopping watches and an endless series of bombed out secret labs like it's a video game. This series has everything except excitement.
1,400+ pages of spider-people vs. spider-people-eating-vampires. If you think you're going to like it, you will. I had no trouble getting through it, the story held together, even though there were lots of parts and connections I didn't understand. This omnibus gathers a story told across a ton of different comics by a ton of different writers and illustrators; I'm curious how they "kept it together."
My (possibly wrong) understanding is that this sequence was very loosely the basis for the recent Spider-Verse animated films, which I think are groundbreaking and amazing and are why I read this. But it's very loose --- the only real shared threads are "there are lots of Spider-People" and "you're gonna get lots of Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy."
In the end, I guess I'm not enough of a Spider-Man fan to consider this truly essential.
An amazing collection of stories from the AMAZING Spider-Geddon series. The omnibus follows various stories and journeys of the many, many different Spider-men (and Spider-women) from the Spider-Verse. This is the entire series in one, so you won't have to find or buy another omnibus to get the whole story. It even includes all of the smaller, not as important, side stories too.
From the Amazing Spider-Man, to the Superior Spider-Man, to Spider-Man 2099, to Miles Morales, and every other Spider-Man variation out there, this book is for you.
The war between the Spider Society and the antagonists is wonderfully well done, and the stakes always felt high. This collection does include some rather gory scenes, so be weary if you're the one who shies away from such. Overall, I recommend this omnibus for fans of the series, or fans of comics in general.
No sé, eh.
Pero vaya, está diver y tal.
Y coño, que sale el Spider japo con Leopardon y eso es CLAVE.
I read the original Spider-Verse TPB way back which is my first point, the omnibus does a much better job of organising all the issues into a better chronological format so you're not lost. Just a really fun event with cool different Spideys. Spider-Geddon is a little weaker but luckily all the extra side series being collected as well make it a much more complete and fun experience. Just reading issues 0-6 of Spider-Geddon would suck. Some of the best comics though are the "Edge of" ones exploring a bunch of alternate "spider-totems". Anyone who likes Spider-Man will enjoy reading this, but keep in mind its much more fun than logical.
Effectively the third version of this I've bought, mostly to sort out the terrible tracking of the last Spider-Verse collection (which I really enjoyed and remains entertaining on re-reading). I found the Spider-Geddon story less interesting, certainly not bad but not really adding anything new (though making Miles more of a lead was a good choice). Too many characters given short shrift and some of the plotting/artwork in the wrap around titles was poor.
So: 5 stars for Spider-Verse (even more so for more accurate mapping) 3 stars for Spider-Geddon
Content gets a 3, it's a very fun read seeing all of the spider people interact with eachother and work together to take down the inheritors.
But you've without a doubt got to give the book an extra star for the mapping, it's phenomenal. All the series are intertwined so the story feels continuous and coherent. How event books should be mapped
This was a painfully overwhelming read. Too much going on, out of place action with the most underwhelming theme to begin with. Not sure about the mapping of this Omni as I’m a novice Spiderman reader but, jumping into this is like going straight from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. The problem is, it’s neither captivating nor good.
Thankfully done with Slott’s run on Spidey. I think?
Spider-Verse is like the best kind of junk food, fun and lighthearted in small doses. Spider-Geddon is like how that same junk food loses its flavor after being eaten so many times. Doesn't help that Otto tries to make "the die is cast!" his catchphrase and each time he says it it's more stupid than the last.
Pues ya estoy listo para recibir el evento del fin del universo Spiderman (del que ya hemos podido leer tres grapas en español que recopilan a algunas de las arañas que veremos en el evento a la vez que nos muestran algo de la amenaza)
This is the one. This is Dan Slott´s Magnus opus, right behind Superior Spider-man. But it sort of goes hand in hand with Superior Spider-man, if you know, you know.
The amoutn of tributes and homages made in this series is something that goes over even my Spidey-obessed head. But everytime you read it you discover something new, small easter eggs of past shows and comics that you didn´t pick up on the previous time.
I prefer Spider-verse over Spider-geddon everyday. But I am glad that they included it, and had everything in reading order.
There's sometimes a bit too many threads to follow and engage with but the many different creators, art styles, and fun spidey's new and old is pretty special.
A very impressive collection that expertly wove a ton of comics together to form a cohesive story that you could read front to back.
The Spider-Verse storyline was definitely better fleshed out than the Spider-Geddon storyline but the Geddon storyline finished strong.
A big highlight of this collection is definitely the “Edge Of” collections that give a peak into the lives of the many, many Earths and their spider-people.
