***ANNOUNCEMENT: Shadow of Legends, Book 1 in the Dragonforged Saga, is funding now on Kickstarter! Look it up to read more about your favorite characters from Legend of Tal.***

J.D.L. Rosell was swept away on a journey when he stepped foot outside his door and into The Hobbit. He hasn't stopped wandering since.

In his writing, he tries to recapture the wonder, adventure, and poignancy that captivated him as a child. His explorations have taken him to worlds set in over twenty novels and six series, which include Dragonforged, Ranger of the Titan Wilds, Legend of Tal, The Runewar Saga, and The Famine Cycle.

When he's not off on a quest, Rosell enjoys his newfound hobby of archery and older pastimes of hiking and landscape photography. But every hobbit returns home, and if you step softly and mind the potatoes, you may glimpse him curled up with his wife and two cats, Zelda and Abenthy, reading a good book or replaying his favorite video games.

I think Leiyn is quickly becoming one of my favorite fantasy characters.

What an excellent novella detailing her early years.

This companion novella to The Last Ranger fills in Leiyn's backstory and in doing so we learn just why she's so stubborn and full of secrets. Helped me love Leiyn just a little bit more!

This book covers Leiyn’s early years. If you have read the Ranger of the Titan Wilds you know around 80 % of this book through flashbacks in the first two books. But in my personal opinion, it is very nice to read Leiyn's life chronologically – AND to have some extra scenes added. Very nice bonus indeed!

A very enjoyable prequel story that tells about Leiyn's life before the events of The Last Ranger. The book packs a lot into its compact size and is well worth the read to anyone who has read The Last Ranger to get the back story.

Very interesting how Leilyn through her years of growth and the obstacles and trials that she overcomes. From her birth and what took place of losing her mother and the thoughts that her father has told her about the Gast and knowing this is the reason she despises them and finding out that she has to keep from using her Gast magic. With the help of the Silver Fox, she finds her path to the Lodgemaster and home hopefully to become a ranger.

Also using this entry to track that I read The Broken Cistern and The World King’s Will, which don’t have Goodreads entries.

Excellent collection of stories. The one thing I felt book one was missing was extended backstory for Leiyn, so we get that in droves here. Loved it.

The short stories remedied another area of interest: broader worldbuilding beyond just the Titan Wilds. I loved the glimpses of other characters and conflicts.
