This is such an enjoyable series. Kelly is an artist who came back to her little hometown at the urging of her grandmother. Soon after, she helped solve the murder that her grandmother had been accused of. Her old friend Nick, the police chief, isn't happy that she's sticking her nose into his investigation; the more he yells, the more determined she is. She's not the kind of gal to back down or give up, and she doesn't take "no" for an answer. She tells him straight out that she won't stop investigating. That's what I like best about Kelly...she doesn't lie to him about her intentions. She's kind, funny, determined, a good friend, and she doesn't scare easily. It doesn't look like Nick is going to understand that anytime soon, which could put a crimp in any romantic plans he has for him and Kelly. Now Kelly's best friend has been accused of murder and she won't stop until the murder is solved and her friend is vindicated. Nick may just have to learn to go with the flow when it comes to Kelly, but he's not quite there yet. I don't usually care for a mystery with romance, but if it's handled well and doesn't become the main focus of the mystery, I can live with that. In fact, Kelly has so much fun poking at Nick while she's investigating that it's actually funny. I will definitely keep reading this series.
"Murder Straight Up" is book #2 in the "Maple Creek Mystery" series by Liz Lamar.
The second book in the series, finds Kelly's BFF Lynn as the prime suspect in a murder at her Inn. Of course Kelly and pretty much everyone in town know she didn't do it but Sherriff Nick has to follow the rules. Despite his repeated warnings, Kelly does her own investigating to find the killer. Some nice twists and misdirection before the killer is revealed.
I love the core characters of this series. The conversations feel real and the relationships aren't just about the current murder. The wit and snark made it more relatable for me. Grams, the bikers and other patrons of the Feisty Goat are a hoot but also the best people you could ask for in your life.
Overall, an entertaining cozy with lovable core characters (human and four legged!) and descriptions of food that will leave you wishing you could pull up a chair and join them at the table!
A murder in the Maple Creek inn and the primary suspect is Lynn, the owner. Kelly is forced to investigate to save her friend. She gets threatened and gets another dog to babysit. Great reading
I am so happy my Kindle popped up with your books as a recommendation. I enjoy the easy read your book provides. I also like that there is not a whole page of different characters. I look forward to book #3. Robert Ericksen
Another great cosy mystery in this series, I love how easy they are to read and how the story holds your attention. Also, I’ll say it again - I’d love a grandmother like Grams!
The answers were not so obvious and so it was pretty twisted. I didn't wanna put the book down till I knew what was going on and it was well worth it!!
