From People’s Republic to The Split, Kelly Turnbull has spent his life fighting for freedom. Now, as the conflict between the new United States and the People’s Republic drags on and Red America looks for a leader to win the war, it is clear that there are no easy answers for the divided former America.
A mission into a firestorm to retrieve a lost heiress from a deadly cult turns into a horror show. Then a shocking attack on Kelly Turnbull and the people he loves reveals a deadly conspiracy within Red America itself. Now Turnbull is out for blood and vengeance, and his quest for justice forces him to confront both his past and America’s future. Will Red America embrace freedom, or will it slip into its own brand of authoritarianism?
There are no easy answers, but Turnbull is dead set on revenge and justice even as demons from his past rise up to confront him. From the new United States capital in Dallas to occupied San Francisco to Seattle, the capital of the People’s Republic state of Hillaryia, to the wilds of the northwest, Kelly Turnbull is locked and loaded and he is taking no prisoners. This may be his toughest mission yet, but Kelly Turnbull is not backing down. It’s all-out mayhem, this time in the midst of the Inferno that is the war to reunite America.

If you like Brad Thor's Scot Harvath series or Clive Cussler's Oregon Files, the Kurt Schlichter Kelly Turnbull series are right up your alley. They offer the same action and add humorous dialogue that surpasses the others. You may have to be 45+ years old and a Rock n roll/movie buff to get some of the gags. That is my first beef with this book. Without spoilers just let me say that certain scenes and/or dialogue were copy/paste from The Road Warrior, Apocalypse Now and The Warriors. They worked but seemed kind of lazy.
The second beef is one I have with a lot of recent action fiction: Seinfeldian levels of "product placement".
Remember Seinfeld episodes that shilled for Snapple, Drake's coffee cakes, Junior mints, Kenny Rogers' Roasters etc, ad nauseum? Schiller's, Thor's and Cussler's books all do it to death as well only with high-end firearms and gear, with some fast food and beer thrown in. I don't need to know the make and model of a piece of kit every time it's referenced. Okay, that was the beefing. Now the praise. As with the previous books in the series (all available on Amazon) the story is fast paced, violence-rich, hilariously mocking of all things woke and, starting with the first instalment in 2016, eerily prescient of how bad wokeness will get. I highly recommend it.

Schlichter says in the preface that this 7th installment in the Kelly Turnbull series “takes place in the 2030s”. He adds, “If you are picky, you’ll notice that real life has disrupted the Kelly Turnbull canon. All those black swans have come back to roost in my timeline. You need to ignore the nagging memory that in some earlier book I referred to some lib hack who did not become president, or overlooked some lib hack who did”.

I don’t think it is being picky and it is difficult to ignore – ‘Black Swans Matter’. Since 2016, major events that the series has missed or largely ignored include 1) Trump beating Hillary, 2) the Chinese-originated global COVID pandemic and lockdowns, 3) the very sketchy 2020 election, 4) the ongoing year-long war in Ukraine, which is about to leave some of Europe freezing in the dark, and 5) skyrocketing inflation worldwide.

Under the circumstances, I found it a very strange choice to have the plot of this novel focus on the threat to the reuniting USA from a villain who is the commanding US Army general and fancies himself a modern-day Caesar. There is no shortage of real villains from which to choose, including Soros and the globalist Davos crowd, the Biden regime, and the GOPe Uniparty. Why invent a wholly fictitious one with no apparent analog in the present?

Schlichter’s snarky criticism of the woke is still present in abundance, which is a major reason to read the series. But it seems like he increasingly picks on minor targets while ignoring major ones. For instance, Hunter Biden gets skewered, but Joe largely skates without mention. Isn’t “the big guy” supposed to get at least 10%?

Schlichter’s writing is skilled, so this book is a fun read as a thriller. However, as the series gets increasingly detached from reality, it loses its appeal as a near-future political thriller and feels more and more generic, which is not a good thing. There are better generic thriller writers. One extended battle scene feels like it was lifted almost straight from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and the movie was better.

Overall, I thought the book was the weakest of the series. I think it is probably time for Schlichter to start a new series and bring all those black swans back into the flock, rather than continuing to pile one convolution on another in an attempt to write around having missed them. I am not particularly interested in continuing to buy books in the Kelly Turnbull series if it continues in the current direction, increasingly detached from reality with each new installment.

Guaranteed to drive woke progressives crazy.

A action packed and fun continuation of the Kelly Turnbull series. Nuanced humor poking fun at the left and even some on right right.

Once again Kurt Schlichter the master at writing non-chronologically returns with his 7th book that also happens to return to being the 7th book in order of chronology.

Inferno fits the exact same formula as all his previous books (see The Split review for that three act breakdown) and this one as in his previous books has a splash of some classic manly movie, this time: Mad Max.

The main plot of this one fades in and out and is a bit murky when trying to follow what's going on early on in the story, but it is clarified and more specifically spelled out a few times throughout the book to set everything mentally straight. And that's the main reason I deducted a star from this book, is that the plot just doesn't feel like it drives quite as much as some of his previous work to me.

With that said, some things new to this book that I did enjoy was the switch from 'woke' cultists to mutated climate cultists as the ground level threat to Turnbull, and the treatment of detransitioners as vengeful militias taking out the main drivers of the current groomer zeitgeist.

The overarching main villain this time also came from inside this time. And I found Schlichter's reflection on what could happen if the "service guarantees citizenship" idea is only implemented on the very surface level without thinking through serious details first, with General Scott feeding the simmering anger from the citizens who are deployed as reserve military to occupy the old California just so they can maintain the right to vote (and othet civic duties), while all those willing to simply sacrifice the right to vote (and those other civic duties) get to stay home, continue to build their wealth, and lose nothing of material. It's not explored in as much depth as I would have liked, but the fact that he even turned the mirror on 'red' America for this book was fairly bold in my opinion.

Good read. You know what you're getting if you've read them up to this point.

Inferno, shining! a light on citizenship by birth.

I had never considered the military a solution for governance, especially after personally watching it fail every time over the last 60 years, nor have I found anything in any recorded history in the world yet that provides any evidence that it's other than a horrible idea. "We the people" need to fix this first, along with immigration, the Federal Reserve, the privatization of gold ownership in lieu of government ownership of gold (see Capitalism and Freedom by Friedman, Milton), and now big tech meddling in free speech issues. I'm understating the the complex nature of this entire ball of issues, however, the cultural evolution of the United States cannot be based upon "history began when I was born". That's pure panda poop, juvenile willful ignorance. Cultural history evolution must be viewed within the context of it's time in reality.

This universe we exist in, and the planet we live on is a dangerous place, incomplete, or it would not still be expanding. What I would like to know is who flipped the "Big Bang" switch.

Another great read Kurt Schlichter.

A great read, a great Warning and another call to all true Patriots!

Kurt continues to amaze with his ability to clearly explain what needs to be done to save America from the dangerous policies of the far Left. Kelly Turn all is Hero like Reacher and Jack Ryan. While I understand that Kelly and the rest are all fictional characters, during my service in the US Army, I met many men just like Kelly Turnball. I was young then and did not understand their willingness to die for this magnificent country of America, now that I am a Grandfather, I am proud to have known these men and grateful for men that are willing to sacrifice all to protect the United States of America! My only wish is to have the courage to stand beside them when the call comes to fight for our country, flag and family!

Mad Max redux?

I enjoyed the first five books in the series, the sixth less so, and now having finished the seventh, I think I'm done with the Kelly Turnbull saga. This installment felt like a mishmash of derivative dystopian themes and gratuitous violence, sans the wit and charm that accompanied earlier books. Star Wars and Monty Python references aside, this one is forgettable. And as far as I know, bodies don't disintegrate into pink mist when hit by trucks at subsonic speeds, fwiw.

Absolutely another political action thriller from the great Kurt Schlichter. The Kelly Turnbull character once again continues his journey of fighting the bad guys. I won't spoil it for anyone but I literally thought the series was dead after the last book, like where could it go? Somehow though Kurt manages to put more spin and politics into this world of a broken and battered America recovering from a civil war.

If you like history, politics and a little action, Kelly Turnbull is your man!

Take the the 1960's talents of Fletcher Knebel, Charles Bailey, Rod Serling, and John Frankenheimer for "Seven Days in May" and update it to 2030 and throw in Kelly Turbull, American warrior and you have "Inferno". The tell here is that 7DIM's villain is General James Mattoon Scott (based on real-life Gens. Edwin Walker and Curtis LeMay) and Inferno's villain is Gen. Karl Martin Scott. It's a great story with multiple McGuffins to move the story along.

Kelly Turnbull for President

While I ponder current politics I realize as a retired officer, I’ve only truly hated one president. The idea of having a Caesar as president makes me realize the president I hated couldn’t have been any worse. Thanks for this tome. It took four years to get rid of the previous SOB. A potential president as the character depicted in this book was barely worse than the one we just got rid of.

A Very Interesting Volume No. 7

Like the previous six volumes, lots and lots of violence and death. A much thought provoking subplot regarding the problem of slacker non-citizens getting ahead, while citizens sacrifice doing their duty. (We have that problem today with the Reserves and National Guards.) I don’t remember Robert Heinlein addressing the problem inStarship Troopers. (Read the book; erase the movie.)

Glad to see the evergreen state in failure

The thing that makes these books so entertaining is taking the democrats policies to there logical conclusions. Not as funny when it is happening in real time I admit. Right now, democrats are trying to breach all the dams on the upper Columbia and Snake rivers and putting groomers into the public schools in Washington state.

Political Thriller

Inferno is a great addition to this series. Like the others, this is action packed. There are characters you'll love and some you won't. This is a warning of a different kind and yet it is also the same. People are people. I would prefer that this series remains fiction.

Well Done!

Good thoughts on the moral ambiguities of war. Fairly accurate description of combat, although it is impossible to really get it exactly. Politically very frightening, not just the Blues but that we never truly get away from human nature on All sides. Please keep writting, you and a few other have been way too accurate.

I’ve read all the books in this series - first couple were excellent, then they gradually went downhill from there. This was the worst yet. It was so predictable and though the names changed it was the same ol same ol.

I won’t be purchasing anymore in this series - I’m done. Way better books out there.

From Wizard of Oz to Mad Max

Wizard of Oz in the Former PR, maybe throw in a little The Warriors too. That was fun, but the Road Warrior scene…well, it was too Road Warrior, like almost exactly. The similarities were pretty disappointing.
But I have enjoyed the series so far, so one weak book won’t make me put it down. Hoping the next one will redeem this one.

It's Kelly Turnbull

He haa been there and done that for decades. He will go there and do that for decades more. This time they attacked his family. He might not be able to kill them all, but he will certainly work the problem.

Lots of great one liners and movie references along with very justifiable homage to the .45. Kurt Schlichter is fun to read and fun to share with friends.

Another good installment to the series

Creative plot with some flavor from the 80s. Road Warrior + The Warriors + Jason Bourne love it. Keep ‘em coming Kurt. Now we have to convince Shapiro to make this into the Daily Wires first mini- series.

Kelly Turnbull at it again! A must if you enjoy Brad Thor’s books. The book, like the previous 6 in the series, touches on a National divorce - Red v. Blue - and it should never be allowed to come to fruition. The thought has even surfaced in DC recently. It’s a downright good read above all.

Book 7? Already

Time flies. It seems like yesterday I read the first Kelly Turnbull (if that’s his real name) book.

Once you ignore the timeline within the series, the story really moves. I especially enjoyed the cultural and political references- ahoy!

I can’t wait for the next one - which is the best review I could give.

Yep. Schlichter’s done it again. Truly entertaining series that begs the world to stop going down the path of insanity. Yet read real headline after headline, you’d despair that it’s all going to come true.

Excellent Series.

This series is uncomfortably prophetic considering the complete mess being created in our once great country .

Loved the book. Hate now close to reality it is.
